Chapter 154: Chaotic Breakfast (II)

Chapter 154: Chaotic Breakfast (II)

Leo was right about the food as the breakfast table turned into a miniature battlefield as everyone was scrambling to get more of the food that they wanted. Lily had practically gone full feral cat when Adam had almost taken the crepe that she had been eyeing.

Crystal was giving Luna a dirty look as the latter took copious amounts of bacon for herself while Leo was both amused and concerned with how much maple syrup Aria was putting onto her pancakes.

Despite that, everyone was having a great time eating breakfast...until Rachel came back from having her shower.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t have a change of clothes so I borrowed some of your Luna. I hope that’s okay~!"

Rachel with her hair still damp walked in wearing a top that was clearly too small for her as it strained against her chest while fully exposing her midriff. She also wore a pair of shorts but had lowered it a bit so her tail wasn’t affected.

Leo took one look at her before he immediately averted his gaze. He recognized that top as one of Luna’s favorites and now it was going to be stretched if Rachel didn’t take it off soon. Seeing it for herself, Luna immediately stood up, slamming her hands against the table with outrage written all over her face.

"What are you doing?!"

Luna’s voice cut through the chatter like a knife, sharp enough to make everyone freeze mid-bite.

Rachel, completely unbothered, twirled a strand of her damp hair and offered a bright, innocent smile.

"I figured you wouldn’t mind. It was either that or show up wrapped in a towel."

She gestured vaguely toward the hallway.

"Not really my vibe and I didn’t think you would want me putting on a show for the boys ."

Adam nearly choked on his drink, coughing as he tried to suppress a laugh. Leo, still refusing to look directly at Rachel, muttered something about needing to check the oven, even though it was off.

The silence that followed was thick enough to cut with a knife. Everyone sat frozen in place, forks halfway to mouths, expressions caught between shock and amusement.

Luna’s eyes narrowed, her hands clenched into fists on the table.

"You could have asked."

Rachel shrugged, clearly unbothered by the rising tension.

"You weren’t around. Besides, I figured we were close enough for a little clothing emergency."

She tugged lightly at the hem of the shirt, which didn’t move much over her ribs.

"Though I guess this wasn’t exactly made for me."

"That is the problem,"

Luna said, her voice rising.

"You’re going to stretch it out. That’s my favorite shirt."

Rachel raised a brow, unfazed.

"You act like I’m ruining it on purpose. Relax. I’ll wash it before I give it back."

"That is not the point,"

Luna snapped, her composure slipping.

"You can’t just take my stuff."

Leo cleared his throat loudly, still staring at the wall.

"Okay, okay, maybe let’s not have a bloodbath over a shirt. I’ll buy you a new one Sis. How about we all take a breath here and just relax for now. Everyone’s got food and it’s still warm and Rachel isn’t parading around in a towel. Focus on the positives."

Rachel shot him a cheeky wink. "Thanks, Cutie~! Always the voice of reason."

Luna looked like she was about to lunge across the table but instead let out a frustrated exhale and sat down with a huff. Her appetite seemed to be strengthened as she began to stress eat in order to calm herself. Crystal tried to hide a grin behind her coffee cup while Lily munched on a strip of bacon with wide eyes, clearly enjoying the drama.

Adam leaned back in his chair, wiped his mouth, and muttered under his breath,

"This morning just keeps getting better."

Despite the tension, the table gradually came back to life. Conversation resumed, though there were definitely a few lingering glances exchanged, some amused and others exasperated. Rachel remained smugly content through it all, sipping orange juice as if she had not just walked into the kitchen and tossed a grenade into the middle of breakfast.

She however was a little disappointed that her plan had not worked out the way she had wanted as while she did agitate Luna, it failed to reach the point that the Bunny girl hit her.

Grumbling a bit to herself, she poured a glass of orange juice and snagged some waffles, munching on them as if it was a piece of toast.

Crystal couldn’t help but quietly marvel about how everyone was taking everything that had happened to them in stride like this and despite her being a total stranger to most of them, they talked to her without any issues, treating her as if they had known her for years.

The chaotic breakfast talk and meal were something that Adam was never quite used to. When he lived with his mom, it had always been just the two of them and after she was gone, family meals were something to be dreaded, not enjoyed. At the thought of his own biological family, Adam couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off but he couldn’t remember what it was exactly.

He patted his pocket and frowned slightly.

His phone.

He had completely forgotten about it. Pulling it out, he noticed the screen was dark and realized it had been on silent the entire time. A swipe of his thumb brought the screen to life, and immediately his stomach dropped.

147 Missed Calls

379 Text Messages.

All of them originating from the same contact in his phone: Penny. He had completely forgotten about her in the wake of what had happened. He immediately stood up and made a hasty excuse before heading outside to the back yard.

He could feel his heart pounding as he pressed the call button. It had barely rang twice before someone picked up on the other end.

"Hey Penny..."

His voice was strained, feeling incredibly awkward as he could practically feel the bubbling anger on the other end of the line.

He held out his phone out in front of him but could still hear his Niece’s rage fuelled scream

"UNCLE YOU FUCKING IDIOT!"
