Chapter 150: Shallow Graves, Deeper Wounds

Rachel never thought the day would come when she would find herself digging a grave in someone’s backyard in the dead of night, let alone digging it for herself. She could still feel the chill down her spine as Luna stood behind her quietly radiating malice and rage.

Aria was also clearly nervous as she hummed and sang the blues as if it was already confirmed that she was going to go to prison. Her eyes even watered a bit when Lily remarked with a teasing grin

"It’s okay Aria. No one will go to jail as long as they don’t find the body~!"

Rachel could feel the tears forming in her eyes as she continued to dig. It was only after she had dug a four foot deep hole in the ground that Luna finally spoke again.

"Okay that’s enough."

Rachel stopped digging immediately but couldn’t help but lament that she was going to be buried in a shallow grave.

"Girls we are going back in. Rachel you can come back in when you have filled in the hole completely. If I check later and see that the hole is still there, I will make sure to put you in it."

Luna spun on her heels and left Rachel there standing dumbfounded, sweaty and covered in dirt. The monkey girl had a massive flux of emotions that she couldn’t quite put into words.

’My Gramps is the head of a massive organization...I have been treated as a princess practically my whole life and no matter how much I goofed off, the most I did was get yelled at or threatened. Nobody ever actually laid a hand on me...until now’

Luna had decided to try and scare Rachel into acting better, making her fear for her life after using a bit of physical force to force her into submission. To any normal person, barely avoiding death was a cause for celebration and a massive reason to avoid doing that again.

Unfortunately for Luna, Rachel was the farthest thing from normal. She had more than a few screws loose.

Now alone, her expression warped into someone experiencing perverse amounts of joy and pleasure as she clutched her stomach, barely containing the laughter that threatened to slip from her lips.

’That was soooo good!’

Luna had no idea that she had opened a new door for Rachel: The path of a masochist! If she knew that, Luna would have definitely acted differently but it was too late now. The damage was already done and Rachel loved it!

With the tension leaving her body, Rachel collapsed inside of the shallow grave, her gaze directed towards the starless sky, Only the faint moonlight prevented the sky from being pitch black. Unable to hold herself back anymore, she began to laugh. At herself, the situation she found herself in and what she was doing now.

Her mind was already spiraling with scenarios. Locked in a room. Tied to a chair. Luna with that same deadpan look as she told her to behave or suffer. Oh, the possibilities.

Then a different kind of chill crept up her spine.

"...Wait,"

she said aloud, blinking.

"Do I have a humiliation kink now?"

She looked down at her dirty hands. Her sweaty and gross shirt. Her half-dug grave. Her utterly wrecked dignity.

"...Yup."

Slowly dragging herself to her feet, she began to slowly shovel the dirt back into the hole, humming the very same tune that Aria had been singing, albeit horribly out of tune.

Inside the house, Luna and Lily were watching Rachel fill the hole with questioning gazes.

"I dunno Luna...I have a feeling that something is a little wrong with her head?"

Luna slowly nodded her head as she couldn’t help but agree with her best friend.

"You know...I feel like you might be right. She didn’t even try to complain when I gave her that task."

Lily shook her head with a tiny chuckle.

"You really don’t have any idea how scary you can be, do you?"

Luna grumbled in response, clearly not pleased with that question. She chose to ignore the question by forcibly changing the topic.

"Let’s go to the living room, Crystal and I need to talk and I am pretty sure Aria is going to crash soon. She looked like she was barely conscious when we were coming in."

As the two girls turned away from the window, Luna paused one last time to glance at Rachel through the glass.

The monkey girl kept on shovelling even though she looked like she was about to collapse at any second. Yet she kept going.

’Did I go too far? She will come back in soon...right?’

By the time they entered the living room, Aria was curled up on the couch fast asleep, using her wings as a blanket. It looked like she was having a weird dream as her face was slightly scrunched up.

"No..Officer"

She mumbled in her sleep, causing Lily to cover her mouth in an attempt to prevent herself from laughing. She glanced at Luna who averted her own gaze, embarrassed about how heated she got over a simple pair of panties

The silence in the living room stretched long and uncomfortable.

Crystal sat rigid on the edge of the couch. Luna hovered by the door, arms crossed like she was entertaining the idea of bolting.

Neither of them looked directly at the other. Seeing this, Lily patted Luna on the shoulder and retreated back into the kitchen. This was a conversation that only the two of them should have. Luna flashed her a grateful look before turning her attention back to Crystal.

"...So," Crystal finally said, voice tight as she tried to break the uncomfortable silence

"This is weird."

Luna gave a short, humorless laugh. "Yeah. A little."

More silence. The kind that prickled along the back of the neck.

"I really didn’t know he was in the hospital,"

Crystal said quietly, gaze fixed on her hands.

"Not until he told me today and it was already over."

Luna’s throat bobbed.

"He told me you knew. But you never came. Not even once."

Crystal’s jaw clenched, and for a second it looked like she might cry. But instead, she just said,

"I guess in the end he didn’t trust me enough."

Luna slowly sat down on the couch next to Crystal slowly, like her legs were giving out on her.

"We both know that isn’t true."

she muttered.

"He really thought he was protecting us,"

she added.

"Like some kind of idiot martyr."

Another pause.

"...Didn’t work,"

Crystal whispered.

Luna’s voice was flat.

"No. It didn’t."

The silence returned, heavier now, thick with grief and the years of words unsaid. Crystal stared at the floor. Luna stared at the wall. Neither moved.

Then Luna spoke up once more

"I wasn’t angry because you stayed away. I was angry because I thought you didn’t care."

Crystal gripped her knee as she softly replied

"I thought you were mad at me for what I did to ruin our relationship..."

Luna tilted her head in confusion

"What?"

"Oh-uh Nothing. It’s not a big deal."

Crystal immediately backpedaled as it seemed like Luna had no idea what she had done.

And for now, she wished to keep it that way.
