Chapter 142: Cold Sparks about to Fly

"Oh really~?"

It was Crystal’s worst fear manifest. She glanced towards Leo and saw a mischievous gleam sparkling in his eyes. He then bowed exaggeratedly.

"Forgive me your Highness~! I did not know that I was in the presence off the revered and mighty Empress~! Forgive this poor soul who in his ignorance was blind to your brilliance!"

Crystal trembled slightly on the spot, seething with a mixture of rage and embarrassment. Leo knew she had trouble being herself in front of others and yet he still chose to show her zero mercy with his teasing.

Adam was also somewhat thoroughly amused by this. Leo was often the target of the other girls and his jests but it seemed that this girl was even lower on the totem pole than he was. He opened his mouth and with a small smirk remarked

"Leo aren’t you being a little rude to lil miss Ice Queen here? One word to her following and I am sure they would swarm you and make you scream..Whoa"

As soon as those words left his mouth, Crystal turned to glare at Adam with cold fury burning in her eyes. He had no idea how but the way she looked at him sent a cold shiver through his entire body.

Perhaps it was because of the snake-like nature of his mutations but his barely healed body started to feel sluggish and his head groggy, threatening to fall asleep if he didn’t warm himself up.

However, just as the cold glare had begun, it came to a halt when she turned her head away from him. He shivered slightly as he glanced at the girl with trepidation in his eyes.

’Seems like the only one she will tolerate bullying her is Leo...duly noted’

Making a mental note to himself, he turned his gaze to Aria who at that moment decided to fully spread her wings, allowing them to catch the faint breeze that was blowing. A sigh of relief escaped from her lips before she noticed eyes were being drawn to her.

With a nervous chuckle, she remarked

"Sorry, I was feeling a little stufft. Hours in a building and then in a stuffy van makes one feel a little cramped up apparently."

Horo had a look of alarm seeing Aria blatantly spreading her wings in front of an outsider like Crystal however when he glanced back at the girl, there was almost no reaction. Amazed, his gaze shifted to Leo who was staring at Aria’s wings with envy in his eyes.

"So the wings are real..."

Crystal’s voice cracked slightly and Leo could tell by the slight quiver in her hands that she really wanted to touch them.

"It would be rude to touch a lady’s wings on the first meeting.. I think?"

Leo pulled down his hood revealing his cat ears that twitched upon feeling the open air. He then leaned his head toward her with some reluctance.

"So for now, you can touch these."

He had barely said the words when he felt cool hands upon his cat ears. The touch was ginger as she was hesitant on the amount of force to use. Adam and Aria were left between laughter and confusion as with muted excitement, Crystal eagerly touched, pet and scratched Leo’s head as if he was an actual cat.

"Should we be looking at this? It feels kinda wrong to be seeing this."

Adam remarked after a moment to which Aria nodded in agreement. The two of them glanced back towards the van where the man in the suit sat on his tablet, most likely having set up some sort of perimeter. They then glanced towards the door. Adam pointed to it and awkwardly added

"Yeah...We will go in and wait for you there whenever you two are done doing....whatever the hell this is."

The duo made their way to knock on the door, leaving behind Crystal and Leo as they continued on with the awkward petting.

Leo barely held back a groan as Crystal’s fingers glided over his ears with reverent precision. It wasn’t painful, in fact it felt quite good but he could also feel some of his pride crumble, leaving him wanting to cry.

"So soft~!"

She whispered with quiet joy as she started to pet Leo’s head with greater intensity. This was every cat lover’s dream. While her expression still remained stoic, Leo could tell by her voice that her mask was cracking under the strain of trying to restrain the big sloppy smile she had when petting cats.

After a minute or so of continuous ear scratches, Leo couldn’t take it anymore and stepped away out of Crystal’s reach and with a faint flush to his face declared.

"Okay that’s enough. We are good. No more head scratches."

Crystal’s hands were outstretched when he made that declaration and through her subtle expression, he could see that she was utterly disappointed and starting to feel a little down.

"...Maybe another time."

He caved as seeing her down made him feel guilty even though in this case he had done nothing wrong. With that being said, as soon as he spoke, Crystal suddenly became more energetic as if life had been breathed back into her.

"Okay!"

Adam and Aria were watching this play out on the porch, making them feel incredibly awkward.

"Imagine after all this nobody answers the door. That would be awkward."

Adam remarked as he rang the doorbell again, clearly getting a little bit impatient, wanting to sit down and relax after all the ordeals he had gone through.

"No, I can hear people inside."

Aria remarked as she craned her neck a little bit.

"Three people. One is coming to the door now."

Adam raised an eyebrow in surprise at Aria’s confident response.

"And How do you know that?"

"I can hear them breathing. Oh the door is gonna open now."

As soon as she said that, the door opened and Luna appeared in the doorway with a frown. She glanced at Adam and then at the wings of Aria, immediately recognizing them.

"Oh Hey Luna. Rachel sent people to come get us~"

Luna frowned as she glared down the hallway to where Lily and Nyx were before stepping aside to let them in.

"Have you seen Leo by the way? He has been gone for an hour or so.."

Luna asked with a slightly worried expression to which Aria had a sheepish smile on her face as she responded.

"He’s outside with a girl."

Luna’s eyes widened in shock as she inadvertently uttered

"What?"

Adam followed up with a smile.

"Yeah he is right outside there with a girl that he said is his childhood friend. I think he said her name was Crystal or something?"

The air around Luna grew cold as she glared towards the street,

"Is that so."

’Oh fuck.’

Horo instinctively recoiled away from Luna as he saw her getting angry.

’I hope you said your prayers buddy. Cause it seems like there is going to be hell to pay’

He could only offer a silent prayer that Leo survives the coming ordeal.
