Chapter 137: The Fourth Snake
Chapter 137: The Fourth Snake
Aria was absolutely losing her mind as she paced back and forth incessantly.
’Adam..No Arachne is freaking me out here!’
Adam’s new feminine form was sitting relaxed on the couch where she had been sitting for the last 15 minutes without a word. Her regality gave the impression that she was above all yet seemed utterly bored as she fiddled with a coin as if she was some sort of magician.
"How long until he wakes up Arachne?"
She didn’t know how many times she had asked that question but the answer was always the same.
"Soon. Stop fretting, child."
"I’m sorry but it is really hard to not panic when you suddenly grow wings and I really feel like I need to get out of here. Who knows what will happen if we don’t leave soon!
The coin flicked into the air, catching the light as it spun. It landed neatly on Arachne’s knuckle, where it balanced without moving, almost mocking her with its stillness.
"I’ve waited for countless eons in places far darker and colder than this place, Little One," came the reply, smooth and slow like silk winding around her throat.
"You can endure a few more minutes."
"That’s exactly what you said before!"
"And it still holds true now!"
A slight trace of irritation flashed in Arachne’s eyes, clearly growing annoyed with Aria’s persistent pestering.
"Was there a need to put him to sleep like that? We could have been out of here already if you hadn’t!"
"So you would have preferred that the little snake see your naked form?"
Aria’s face immediately turned a cherry red as she lowered her head, unable to honestly answer the woman sitting on the couch.
"That is what I thought..."
Arachne narrowed eyes glinted with some self satisfaction. However that amusement turned into concern as she stood up with a stone faced expression.
"Child, hide yourself as best you can. Someone is coming."
Aria panicked as she looked around for a place to hide but the room was far too small to have any place she could effectively hide. Seeing that, Arachne clicked her tongue before she quickly took off her suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders, essentially covering her wings.
No sooner had she done that, the door swung open wildly and a middle aged man strode in like he owned the place. Arachne recognized the man as the deplorable scum she had observed in the meeting room when Adam made his big play.
Kyle had a soft grin on his face as he scanned the room quickly before it settled on Aria, the very person he had come to see.
"Well if it isn’t the great Ari Eversong. You are a media wonderchild~! Every move you make generates gossip and I have to say~...I am a big fan~."
Aria felt an instant revulsion to the man as he held out his hand to her as if asking for a handshake. The man practically radiated a slimy aura as despite wearing a suit, she could tell that he was bad news.
"I-I’m glad to hear that Mister but I was told by Mr. Adam that this room would be a private one.."
"Oh where are my manners~! My name is Kyle Samael but a lovely lady like you can call me Kyle. Also Adam is a joke in this company that nobody takes seriously. A known womanizer and pervert, the family has kept his countless arrests for obscene behaviour under wraps."
Aria could feel one of her eyes twitch ever so slightly as Kyle tried to drag his brother’s name through the mud with a shameless expression on his face. How he could boldly make such claims to her face was beyond what she thought humanly possible.
"Honestly, if it wasn’t for my twin sister having a personal vendetta against me, all the ’crimes’ associated with my name would have been attributed to the actual perpetrator~"
Arachne could not stomach it anymore and scoffed in absolute annoyance. Her eyes narrowed as she glared daggers at the man who reeked of lust.
"That child is far purer than a cretin like you."
Her husky voice was frosty with pure unadulterated disdain.
Kyle blinked, clearly caught off guard by the voice. His eyes slowly shifted to the somehow familiar but charismatically regal and cold woman that he had somehow managed to not notice until now. .
"I’m sorry, and you are...?"
he asked, smiling too wide.
"Adam’s latest fling?"
The coin flipped again. Higher this time. It glinted like a falling star before Arachne caught it between two fingers without looking. She slowly stepped in front of Aria, unhurried and deliberate, her mere presence a lesson in unspoken dominance.
"I am what stands between you and an untimely death,"
she said with a cold smile forming on the corner of her lips.
"And you would do well to remember that."
Kyle laughed. Loudly. Fakely.
"Oh, I love the dramatic type. You’re perfect for that clown with your circus act."
He turned back to Aria, letting his eyes linger far too long on places he had no right to.
"Your taste in company is... exotic. Though if she ever wants a real man, she can come find me anytime~!"
Arachne’s gaze flickered with revulsion but she remained steadfast and silent at Kyle’s remark, instead choosing to block his view even further.
Aria didn’t flinch this time. She was no longer scared or even intimidated, she was well and truly pissed. .
"The company I keep is not your business in the slightest nor will it ever be!"
That wiped the grin off his face for a split second.
Arachne took a step closer. The floor beneath her feet made no sound, and yet each movement made Kyle visibly uncomfortable.
"There’s no need to taint the air with your vile presence any longer,"
she growled in a low commanding voice..
"Begone with you. Now."
Kyle scoffed, backing toward the door with mock offense, trying his best to hide the fact that Arachne had in fact intimidated him.
"This company really is full of lunatics. Adam, his pet girls, and now this one." He gestured at
Arachne with disgust before giving Aria a final lingering smirk. "You’ll regret siding with the wrong brother. You will be seeing me again soon~! Bye for now~!"
He slammed the door behind him.
The silence hung heavily in the air after he left.
