Chapter 113: The Dancer’s Prayer

Chapter 113: The Dancer’s Prayer

Sonata found herself wandering around the village aimlessly. While the others had agreed to split up, she had been reluctant to do so. After all, ever since she had entered the game, she had always been with Horo and his friends.

What’s more, she didn’t know what she wanted to do as her Lifestyle Profession. Of course she could see if there was anything related to singing but that ran the risk of her identity getting exposed and that was inevitably a shortcut to losing her freedom.

Yet she couldn’t deny that she craved it. Entertaining others was something she truly enjoyed. Perhaps that’s why she found herself stopping outside of a small building where she heard what she could only call a sorrowful song.

Knocking on the door, it opened with a loud creak. Unable to hold back her curiosity, she entered deeper into the building in search of where the song was coming from. A chill ran down her spine as she heard the lyrics coming from behind a closed door.

She moves with grace

So high

So free

A shining light for all to see

Her steps

They glow

Her heart takes flight

Dancing through the endless night

She leaps and twirls

Her spirit sings

Floating softly on silver wings

Across the stars

She leaves her trace

A dancer lost in time and space

Fly

Fly

Dancer

Fly so high

Touch the moon

Kiss the sky

Fly

Fly

Dancer

Don’t look down

You’re the queen

Wear your crown

The world below

It fades away

Her rhythm calls

She can’t delay

She spins and soars

A fire inside

The sky’s her home

Her place to glide

Up she goes

No limit near

A melody we all can hear

Step by step

She paints the air

A masterpiece beyond compare

Fly

Fly

Dancer

Fly so high

Touch the moon

Kiss the sky

Fly

Fly

Dancer

Don’t look down

You’re the queen

Wear your crown

’These lyrics....They don’t match the tone. Something’s not right...’

Before she knew it, she pushed that door open and saw the room was dimly lit. Inside was someone curled in the corner. They didn’t seem to notice Sonata as they continued their sorrowful song. Sonata’s eyes widened in shock as she saw the state of the singer.

From what she could tell, the singer was an old woman with wings similar to her own...what was left of them. The woman had one mangled wing with sickly malnourished looking feathers while her other wing was a stump.

’Oh my god!’

Sonata’s covered her mouth as she suppressed her desire to cry in revulsion. The woman’s body was covered in scars, one of her eyes was bandaged and some of the bandages around her body had been stained red with blood.

"Who’s there!"

The woman seemed to notice her presence as soon as her singing died down. Sonata don’t know when or how but the woman had pulled a knife from somewhere and pointed it at her face.

"Did those dogs from the church send you?!"

The woman roared, her gaze wavering as she stared at Sonata, her voice catching in her throat as the knife tip trembled. The woman was afraid...very afraid. Sonata immediately shook her head and replied

"No. I don’t know anything about a church. I just found myself coming here because of the music. The lyrics were beautiful but it sounded so tragic..."

"You...you heard me sing? Are you...Are you an avian?!"

The woman seemed to become even more agitated after asking her question, struggling to stand. Sonata noticed that even one of the woman’s legs were injured as she limped closer to get a better look at Sonata.

Sonata nodded at her question and with a shrug of her shoulders, spread her wings wide. The woman looked both wistful and in awe of Sonata’s beautiful wings.

"Oh my beloved Goddess, you have not yet abandoned me! You grace me with a child to carry on my legacy before my time comes to an end."

Sonata had a look of immediate concern when she heard the woman’s words.

"Are you dying? We should get you some help!"

The woman let out a sigh as she reached out for Sonata’s face with a soft look in her one eye. Strangely enough, Sonata didn’t find herself pulling away from the woman’s hand. In fact, she found the touch warm and comforting.

"Sweet child. Your heart is so pure. You can see my state with your own eyes. As a Dancer, I can no longer fly nor will my legs work the way I wish. This is a fate far worse than death for me. My only regret was that I had no one to carry on my legacy.. But now I have you. Will you grant this old fool her one last wish"

Sonata’s heart was heavy as this woman was determined to die. Yet somewhere in her heart, she found herself here for more than just one reason. Firming her resolve, Sonata took a deep breath.

"I...I’ll do it. But on one condition!"

The woman frowned hearing Sonata trying to barter with her, her eye narrowed as she replied with a displeased tone.

"And pray tell..What is this one condition?"

"You meet my friends and allow us to try to find a way to help you. I know someone who has a lot of medical herbs that may be able to heal some of your injuries!"

Sonata was becoming desperate as she thought of Luna and Moku. Seeing that Sonata’s request was related to trying to heal her, the woman had a soft but warm smile on her face.

"Alright Child. I will do as you say. But before we do any of that, take this."

From within her robes, the woman pulled out a sky blue quartz gem and placed it into Sonata’s hand. The stone felt warm yet cold in her hands but before she could question it, a notification screen appeared in front of Sonata.

Sonata immediately pressed Yes as a sense of peace and tranquility washed over her. To her amazement, the gem in her hands immediately disintegrated into particles of dust before coalescing into a form of glitter that coated her wings which in turn enhanced her beauty further.

"We have some time before we are to go meet your friends, yes? Then let me teach you some things about your Profession in the meantime."

Sonata nodded her head as she flapped her wings softly.

"Yes Teacher!"

The woman waved her hand in dismissal, clearly displeased.

"Oh dear. There is no need to call me Teacher. You can call me Grandma Sky"

"Alright Grandma Sky~!"

Sonata had a wide smile on her face as she replied to the woman’s request with wholehearted enthusiasm. She never had a grandma before.

Sonata took a quick glance at her new stats before she started following the instructions of Grandma Sky who decided to take her under her wing and teach her how to dance.
