Chapter 112: Rabbitouille
Chapter 112: Rabbitouille
Luna plated her concoction and placed it on a table in front of Ramone. She proudly puffed up her chest while sporting a smug expression, clearly pleased with herself and how the dish had come out.
Somewhat eager to try it himself, Ramone grabbed a fork and knife and dug into the meat centric dish. Without hesitation, he put the piece in his mouth and instantly felt the flavor on his tongue.
The juices of the bacon had seeped into the chicken while the feta cheese had become warm and melty which provided a rich texture while the bruschetta provided a soft contrast that further elevated the overall taste of the chicken. .
He couldn’t stop at just one bite, he didn’t say anything to Luna as she awaited his judgment, instead choosing to consume the dish until all that was left on the plate was bacon grease as well as tiny bits of feta and bruschetta that had slipped out while he was eating.
Luna grew even more confident, crossing her arms in front of her chest as she watched in quiet amusement as Ramone even used his fingers to make sure there were no crumbs left over.
"So...Did I impress you Chef?"
She asked, bringing Ramone to his senses. He looked down at the plate that was practically spotless and blushed. His actions were unbecoming of a chef but he couldn’t deny that the dish had been absolutely delicious.
"Ahem. It was...acceptable. Yes. Acceptable. Your potential with my tutelage will be unparalleled. Making something from scratch and not using any of the conveniences is quite commendable."
Luna tilted her head, expression going blank as she failed to comprehend what Ramone was saying.
"Huh? What are you talking about? How else are you supposed to cook?"
Ramone’s expression became one of slight disbelief as he remarked
"Have you never used a Chef Recipe before?"
"Yeah I have? Follow the recipe to cook..."
"No no no. Not like that. Observe"
Ramone shook his head before entering the kitchen himself. He placed a frying pan on the counter followed by cheese and some bread. He cut some of the cheese and cut out two pieces of bread from the loaf. He then unceremoniously placed the two ingredients into the pan and held his hand over it.
Luna could swear that she saw some sort of glow come from Ramones hand before a burst of smoke rose up from the pan. Once the smoke cleared, A perfect grilled cheese was left in it’s place, stunning Luna to the spot.
Luna had a deep frown on her face as she stared at the grilled cheese in disapproval.
"But that’s cheating. No fun, No heart."
Ramone merely shrugged in response
"Well most people choose convenience over experimentation. Besides, most people are afraid to try as there are penalties involved if the dish is considered a failure.."
She blinked. Then blinked again.
"...Huh? How? You didn’t even use heat or make it into a sandwich.....What?!"
Ramone raised an eyebrow at her dumbfounded look as she failed to comprehend what he did.
"This is the standard way most Chefs operate. We learn recipes and then cast the [Cook] skill in order to transform the ingredients into actual Food. Of course you can also manually Cook if you wish to be experimental. If the dish is a success, it will be recognized as a Recipe and can later be used alongside the [Cook] skill"
"I can’t agree with that unless it is in a place where cooking is inconvenient. Beyond that, there is no way I will ever do something like that!"
Ramone narrowed his eyes containing a questioning stare
"Why are you so against it? It still makes food in the end, no?"
She shook her head.
"It’s not just about making food. It’s about making your food. Your hands, your taste, your choices. Why else would anyone want to eat it?"
Ramone stared at her for a long moment, then let out a loud, genuine laugh that echoed across the kitchen.
"Hah! You really are a different kind. I like that young lady. You pass the test!."
The system notification chime rang out twice in quick succession.

Lily shot a questioning glance to Ramone who was staring back at her with a smug smile on his face.
"I said that is how most Chefs operate. Not how I operate. So what do you say little lady. Would you like to become my Student?"
Luna’s lips curled up into a small smile as she loudly called out in a determined tone

Seeing the 1 hanging on her status screen caused Luna some despair but she was distracted when Ramone tossed a black book towards her. She looked back at him with a quizzical expression.
"That’s for you. Write down your ideas and recipes and we will put them together when we can. Who knows, maybe you will write your own cookbook one day."
The idea of writing her own cookbook caused a shiver of anticipation to run down Luna’s spine.
’A cookbook of my very own....That sounds nice! Let’s do it!’
Little did anyone know that this was the moment the future Divine Chef’s Cookbook: ’Luna’s Recipes’ was born.
