Sorcerer in a fantasy world -
Chapter 91
Chapter 91: Chapter 91
While we waited on Morgana, I meant to spend some thoughts on the City of Magic. I started, but my mind had other ideas. I started journaling my thoughts...
We had two major threats to the White city. Romans and Unseelie. Who were both outside and within the walls.
I itched to act. I wanted the problem gone now. If the problems were gone I could go back to relaxing in peace. Doing simple things like curing ass-face.
No, my future would not be so mundane. This small adventure into the city was a leisure I allowed myself to avoid acting. If I do something I will have to face the consequences.
’Heir of Albion’ Tara had said. Could that be me? More than heir to be its Lord and King. If I had total control of the island I could stop the Romans ever landing. I could secure Iris’ safety and Morgana’s ambitions of ruling.
A tyrannical future, however, didn’t clash well with my modern morals.
What did I want?
Clavile and the Romans fought for domination over Albion. Arthur was doing something, but what I didn’t know. I can’t imagine he didn’t dream of extending Camelot’s domain over Albion.
They all sought power and more of it. They were happy to trample and destroy all they had to in order to achieve their ambition.
What did I want? Make my city and live off of its glory. My pet creative project. What more? What end? When will I be happy?
Call centre Damian. Past-me wanted a place of safety, security and to be loved. The people around and the City of Magic will resolve those wants. The City of Magic is my chance to really do some epic magic to create and not just destroy.
Future-me worked to sort out an issue caused by an unforeseen enemy. He solved it.
What do I want?
Support Iris and Morgana? Keep watch over Umbra as a potential danger? Come on me. Be a little selfish. An arts project and sex are great and all, but hardly a life’s purpose. What is my thread to cling on to? What am I living for?
The answer was simple. The confusion cleared. The present and the past had the same problem and the same solution. I wanted to change what happened to me back home: becoming a meaningless cog. Not just Albion, I will free the people of Rome too from the tyranny of their gods and lift them out of poverty by creating a world revolution.
Make it possible and actual for every single individual to live meaningful, free and happy lives.
I had the power when I really thought about it. If I can destroy the world, then I can also remake the world with my magic. They wanted a godslayer. I could be, but I had the power with magic to defy evolution’s chaos and divine order. Treator had said I was a created more than a slayer. I could use human creativity with magic to bring about lives better than wishes.
Albion, Rome and this world through as little blood and domination as possible I would bring about a revolution so people can fulfil their material and mental needs together.
Unseelie and the Romans were obstacles to cultivating that future.
And if the City of Magic is all I manage. A small haven in a terrible world then that counts for something too.
I finally had a fitting dream. Now, to make it into reality.
Our lover came in with the ferocity of a storm and sat down with the speed of lightning. The door slammed behind her making a sound not unlike thunder.
Byrette slipped in with Morgana sticking to her back like a shadow.
"What do you think?"
"We’ll help." I said, my lips flat and stiff, and offered no refusal.
Morgana’s lips curled, she didn’t look surprised but seemed displeased with my response, "You sure. It isn’t our problem."
A valid point. My eyes hardened, revealed with a twitch and creased lines across my forehead and under my eyes. I can’t imagine her displeasure is based on disagreeing with the cause of aiding Elkilbour. What then?
"No lines divide us from the people of Elkilbour. What reason do we have to subject them to Romans or Unseelie? No, we will protect them. I won’t let this city become the next Ferisarm." I said passionately. I made my cause and feelings clear as possible.
Byrette nodded, "Sorcerer is right."
Morgana shook her head and silenced any further words from Byrette with her disagreement. Morgana’s shadow lacked the spine and conviction to challenge her on matters of strategy.
"Not if he is killed." Morgana disagreed. "I don’t want to do anything to put you in danger. I don’t trust the Kings."
My fist clenched tight showing pale white knuckles, "You tried to save Ferisdarm." I pointed out.
"I trusted my cousin. Who is dead because I didn’t listen to you and run. We could have gotten more out if we had left."
"Or we could have been ambushed like you said and lost more."
Iris who sat between us stood up, her hands catching each of ours and connecting us physically.
Iris argued, "We can’t decide the fate of this city only in the past. They need us. I believe that, so we should help."
"I agree." I said.
"Fine." Morgana assented, her lips dropping into a straight line.
Iris let go of our hands and sat back down. We were on the same page again. My eyes softened slightly.
Morgana pondered, running a hand through her hair, "There will be no stability in Elkilbour until those that plotted and carried out the assassination of the Western King are dead. We will uncover and end this threat to aid our allies."
"We’ve been so focused on the Romans we have failed to see the threat of the Unseelie building within." I said.
"I had hoped we had ended our troubles with them back at Ferisdarm." Iris said with an unhappy frown at the memory.
Morgana shared Iris’ expression and feeling, "It appears we can’t leave them behind as easily as we’d hoped. They remain an obstacle and I struggle to see how we can deal with the Romans while the Unseelie danger remains."
I remained neutral, putting a mental wall between myself and the devastation of Ferisdarm.
I said, "Perhaps we could deal with the Romans without Elkilbour one day, but their support and value is unquestionable. I want to help them. I think we all feel the same."
"We do." Iris and Morgana said as one.
"Then we act and search out for the Unseelie. No longer are we just trying to survive. We will shape the future of Alba together for a better tomorrow."
"Let them cower before our power, my champion. We go on the attack."
"So, our goal is set and our purpose shared. Uncover the Kingkiller." I said.
"Protect our allies, so you can safely build your City of Magic." Morgana said.
"Save our friends, and make Aisling proud by warding Albion from Unseelie terror."
I smiled, and they smiled with me. "Sounds like a plan."
