Sold to My Killer Husband: His Concubine's Dilemma -
Chapter 48: Fainted
Chapter 48: Fainted
"Make her kneel." Servants forced Liora to kneel in front of Lilian; her messed-up dress was tucked under her knees. Liora looked up at Lilian, just to meet her stern eyes looking back at her. As soon as that happened, Liora’s flashback of the day when she was sold came back to her mind. Her heart started to beat fast; she knew this would happen when she would meet Lilian again.
Lilian looked in the direction of a few maids standing; she pointed at one of the maids. "You..." The maid came a few steps forward. "Slap her twenty times, with all your strength," Lilian ordered her while gritting her teeth. Liora heard Lilian’s order just like the other people in the room.
The maid came and stood in front of Liora, "Ahh..." Liora screamed the moment she looked up at her; the slap landed on her left cheek, her head snapped to the right, and it stung, leaving a red hand mark on her cheek. Tears gathered at the rim of her eyes The maid made sure she would hit her with all her strength just as ordered.
"Madam..." Mira and Lily cried loudly as they heard it too. Edgar was standing in front of them, blocking their view; Mira was sweating at the thought of Liora’s state of mind, as she herself had been through this and she knew how humiliating it was even for a maid. Lily tried to go ahead and help Lior, but Mira stopped her. "If we go and help madam, it will only worsen for her," Mira murmured.
"But.. "
"Listen to me, Lily, we must not," Mira urged Lily not to go ahead; she felt helpless about not being a help here.
"But... if we cannot, we can ask others," Lily whispered as she got an idea; she knew who could stop this.
"Wait, are you going to...?" Mira looked at Lily; Lily nodded at her.
"Just wait till I come; I know where they are right now." Lily rushed out of the room.
Beatrice too witnessed the slap landing on Liora’s face; she looked worried, although she never considered Liora as a mistress or anything to Lucien, but she did not like how Liora was being treated at the moment. Edgar closed his eyes as the first slap landed.
Roseria, on the other hand, felt guilty; she just wanted her mother to scold. She glanced at Lilian with side-eye; Lilian looked calm to her, "Mother..." Roseria’s attempt to stop her mother failed as she heard another slap, landing on Liora’s face, followed by Liora screaming again. She looked at her; this time Liora’s face snapped to the left, a single tear rolled from her eyes, she tried to speak something and fell on her dress.
Roseria did not waste any second, "mother this is way too much" , Lilian brought her index finger to her lips " Shh...".
This left no space for Roseria to speak again; her eyes darted at Liora again. She saw the maid holding Liora’s face as the maid brought her hand up again to slap on her left cheek; Roseria closed her eyes.
After eight slaps and Liora’s scream, again the sound of a slap echoed in the room, but Liora’s scream did not follow this time. Roseria, who had closed her eyes, opened them slowly to look at Liora. While Layla was enjoying the view with interest, too, not hearing Liora’s scream, she frowned. "Why did she not scream...?" she murmured to herself.
Roseria saw Liora’s face snap to the side but she could not see her facial expressions clearly.
Lilian also saw that. "Did she faint?" Liora did not move her head.
"Check her?" Lilian’s eyes moved to Edgar; he got the clue and reached to see Liora. "Leave the lady," as he ordered the servants to let go of Liora’s arm, her hands went limp after all her wriggling and protest; they fell down and with that, Liora collapsed on the floor; she had lost her consciousness. But no one dared to come ahead and help her.
Layla did not interfere but she was disappointed with the fun being stopped as Liora fainted. She loved how Lilian did her things; she used the same for her staff to make sure they did not cross their line or disappoint her.
Edgar stood straight and looked at Mira; he knew that the girl would not come ahead to help Liora unless she was asked, but it was necessary he called for her, "Mira, come ahead and help your lady."
"Yes, sir," Mira was about to go ahead, "stop," Samuel, the person who entered the room just at that moment, ordered them. Mira remembered Lily went out to get some help.
’Maybe lily asked him for help.’
Samuel searched the room; he saw everyone and the one he despised the most, that was Lilian. He felt she was partial with Lucien because she would have helped Lucien back then but she chose to give up on her son like that. He sometimes wondered whether Lucien was her son or not. But now she was here to show her care...’how pathetic.
’ But again, he cannot stop her.His eyes fell on the woman who lay there unconscious; he frowned.
"What has happened here?" he looked at Edgar, asking for an answer.
"She has been punished," Edgar answered him while looking at Liora, who was still on the floor.
"May I ask why?" Samuel took a step forward to check on Liora; he extended his arms but as the person who is fainted was Lucien’s concubine, even though Lucien does not consider her one, he cannot touch her. Samuel turned to Mira; he motioned her to come ahead. Mira nodded, walked to Liora, and sat beside her. Tears were already gathered on the rim of her eyes; she reached for Liora’s arms and somehow she managed to place Liora’s head on her lap. Mira’s tears started to flow down her cheeks,
"Madam..." she cried, sobbing
while trying to move Liora’s hair from her face. She was drenched in sweat.
When Mira turned Liora, Samuel saw her face. ’This girl is from...’ He remembered the time when the maid was struck in the storage roomand he helped her out.
"Is she the concubine?" he asked, confused. Mira looked up at him with her crying face; she nodded.
’So why...’ he murmured, but again that was not important right now.
"Who slapped her?" Samuel asked Edgar.
Edgar cleared his throat and answered, "Lady Liora has insulted her highness; that is why she was punished." As he said this, he looked straight into Samuel’s eyes.
"And how?" Samuel demanded for answers.
"I did and does that offend you, boy?" Lilian’s cold voice made Samuel look at her.
"Your highness," Samuel took a step towards her; he looked around, and he spotted Layla there too, but he did not bow to anyone. "This is Sir Lucien’s house, and we are under orders that no woman should be harmed here," he stepped, pointing at Liora, "and certainly not like this."
"So now you will tell me how I must do things,’ besides this frail girl could not even take a few slaps". Lilian spoke with her head high.
Mira was looking at Liora’s cheeks, which were red and swollen from the assault; she lightly tried to touch those cheeks, but Liora, even when unconscious, would flinch at the touch. which were red and swollen from the assault; she lightly tried to touch those cheeks but Liora, even when unconscious, would flinch at the touch.
"Maid take madam to oom." Samuel ordered Mira, who nodded; he then turned to the same servants who held Liora, "use a stretcher to take madam to her room." Servants saw Samuel’s angry eyes and knew that maybe they will get punished; this thought froze their feet.
"Move," Samuel growled.
"Well well, see Edgar now. I must learn from these lowlies how I must treat my daughter-in-law." Lilian showed her disappointment.
Samuel paid no attention to her; he knew he was insulting her, but he wanted to do it anyways. "Madam Beatrice, please attend to Madam with soup." Lilian’s gaze turned to Beatrice, who looked like she could not decide to whom she should listen; Samuel was Lucien’s left hand while Lilian governed the royals. At last she sighed yet remained in the same position.
"You dare to move," Lilian gritted her teeth and turned to Samuel. "And you, a mere soldier, dare to raise your voice in front of me?" She shouted.
"Your Highness," Samuel began, forcing himself to suppress his irritation. "Master Lucien is fond of his new concubine. Since he is unconscious, he might not appreciate any mistreatment towards her. Please understand."
Samuel lied as smoothly as he could, watching as Lilian’s facial expression changed; it seemed that she was considering his words.
"Fine. Since you are pleading on her behalf," Lilian finally said, her tone clipped. "But that does not mean I will let her off easily."
Her gaze snapped to Liora, and as if on command, every pair of eyes in the room followed suit.
"Make this girl stand on her feet again, then she will tend to Lucien." Then, she turned to Beatrice. "And you, make sure she eats only once a day. This will continue until Lucien recovers."
With that, Lilian rose from her seat, her robes swishing as she strode toward the door. Roseria followed closely behind.
Layla, however, remained seated and glanced at Edgar. "Mr. Edgar, could you send for my maids? I will be staying here for a few days."
