Chapter 1040: Chapter 103 : It Can’t Be Good
My heart raced as Stone approached my chair. He grinned at me and nodded to Donovan.
Donovan backed away and bowed his head. Clearly, he was the submissive one in this situation.
“Tell me Sasha, can you please clarify what you meant when you said you don’t have your powers?”
“I meant exactly what I said, I don’t have my powers. How else can I say it?” I snarled at Stone.
My heart pattered rapidly and on the inside, I was anything but calm. I refused to let Donovan or Stone see me scared or worried.
The two of them were creeps.
“Well, that’s disappointing.” Stone shook his head and looked at me as though I was nothing. “No more reality hopping.”
“What do you mean?” Donovan asked.
“I mean that without Sasha’s powers, we won’t be jumping realities any time soon.”
I scoffed. That’s all the two of them cared about.
“You idiots! When I came back into this reality, I came in the other Sasha’s body. She had no powers. I lost my powers and I lost my baby!”
“Baby?!” Donovan’s eyes widened and shifted back and forth.
“Yes, I was pregnant. And the two of you messing with the timelines and my life have robbed me of my child and my powers. Congratulations, you’ve royally screwed up everything!”
I strained against my ropes as I yelled at them, the coarse fibers sticking into my skin like splinters.
Donovan bit his lower lip. He shook his head and his eyes darkened. He looked... almost guilty.
“S-Sasha... I’m sorry.”
“Shut up, Donovan!” Stone swatted his wrist at Donovan.
Donovan clamped his mouth closed and bowed his head again.
Damn, his guilt could have been helpful, I thought. I could have used that to get him to help me. It looked like Donovan wouldn’t even sneeze without Stone’s permission.
Stone growled under his breath and shot me a sharp look.
“Just... get Morianne over here now. She can help us figure out this mess!”
“Why can’t you just let me go?” I asked. “I don’t have what Morianne wants. If you call her here, she’ll just do something to all of us. Let me go and get out of here yourselves. No hard feelings.”
“Cute, but the second we turn our backs, you’ll have Lucas all over us.”
“I won’t, I promise. If you guys let me go and walk away from all of this, I won’t even tell him.”
That was a lie, but I knew I could convince him not to attack them or retaliate.
“You know how crazy Morianne is, both of you. Would you rather deal with her or with Lucas?”
Donovan gulped, audibly. “I don’t know, Stone. She has a point. Morianne doesn’t know we have her yet.”
“Shut up, Donovan! Call Morianne. We’re not letting Sasha leave. We’re seeing this through. It’s an honest mistake. Morianne will understand.”
I scoffed and laughed. “Really? A crazy priestess strikes you as the type to be understanding?”
“Let it go, Sasha,” Donovan growled. “If you really know how crazy Morianne is, then you’ll cooperate.”
“Her mental instability is more of an incentive for me not to cooperate, isn’t it?” I challenged.
Donovan cringed. It seemed like he genuinely wanted me to cooperate in order to keep me safe. Maybe Donovan did have a soul.
Stone, on the other hand–he was just horrible.
“Please, Sasha. If you know what’s good for you, what’s best for you, you’ll cooperate,” Donovan insisted.
I sighed but didn’t talk back. They weren’t going to let me out of here. There was no way they’d defy Morianne. They were definitely dumber than I thought.
Donovan and Stone left me alone in the small, dark room.
I strained against the ropes and looked around. There had to be a way out of here.
I saw some shadowy shelves pushed against a wall. There was a blackened window behind me. It was either painted black or there was something covering the window from the outside. I couldn’t tell what time of night or day it was.
The door they left through was behind me too. It was a thick, wooden door with a rusted handle, probably locked.
The first thing would be to get out of these ropes. I wondered if I could scoot the chair to the shelves and find something to help me out.

*Lucas*
I sat at my desk and went through all the mail and messages that had come for me in the two months I was in a coma.
There were a lot of work and survey requests. It was nice to know that my work and expertise were appreciated. How far back would it set my work with all these unanswered requests?
It took me all day to reach out to everyone with responses. Fortunately, Xander had helped in that regard, letting others know that my responses would be delayed.
I worked my way through half of the messages and took a break. It was slow going, and it didn’t help that I couldn’t stop thinking of where my child was.
Sighing, I picked up a framed picture of Sasha on my desk. I ran my hand down her stomach and bowed it out, tracing an invisible baby bump that she didn’t have in the picture. I kept imagining how sexy she’d look with that growing bump.
I set the picture down and rested my head in my hands. For all I knew, the Sasha in the other reality was losing her mind about suddenly being pregnant, and the rogue Lucas wasn’t helping her out at all.
I wondered if the rogue Lucas even cared to help. How would he help, even if he wanted to? He didn’t know anything about relationships or caring for someone else, let alone a child.
A shudder ran through me. It made me sick to my stomach to think of how ill-equipped the two of them were to handle things, especially a baby.
I clenched my fists at my sides. There had to be something I could do to fix this. I’d promised Sasha I would, and I wouldn’t let her down.
My phone rang and I jumped.
“Dammit!”
I was letting my own thoughts get to me.
“Hello?”
“Lucas, how are things going?” Xander asked.
“I’ve been catching up on missed work all day.”
“Oh, well, don’t let me interrupt.”
I chuckled. “Please, interrupt. I need a good distraction.”
Xander chuckled on the other line. “Well, once you’re caught up, let me know. I have some projects in reserve to help you get back on your feet.
“Thank you. That means a lot. I doubt that’s what you wanted to talk about, though.”
“You’re right. I have an update.”
My heart jumped into my throat. Any news was good news, especially if it was something I could share with Sasha to make her feel better. She’d been so down.
“Lena and I have looked high and low. We’ve contacted everyone who might know anything and unfortunately, we’ve turned up nothing about the future orb.”
“That’s not what I want to hear,” I growled.
“I know. I wish I had better news.”
“Xander, what about Stone? We know he used it in another reality. He has to have it.”
“There’s a good chance he does. I sent guards to his place but he hasn’t been home. We checked his office, his sites. He isn’t anywhere, and the orb isn’t anywhere.”
“That’s discouraging.”
“We’re still looking for leads. As soon as I know anything, you’ll know. You know we can’t go after him directly until we have some kind of proof.”
“Thanks. I know you’re doing what you can. I’m afraid to ask but... any luck locating Morianne?”
Xander sighed heavily, and I already knew the answer. “The few leads we had, Lena already followed up on. They were all dead ends this time around.”
“She does know how to cover her tracks. I wouldn’t expect her to be easy to find.”
“I agree. We’re not giving up we just need to try a different approach.”
“I hope you get some new leads soon.” I couldn’t keep the grumbling despair out of my voice.
“As do I. You’ll be the first to know.”
We said our goodbyes and I turned my attention back to the rest of the messages I needed to get through.
It was hard to concentrate on work when all I could think about was how when Sasha came home, I’d only have bad news for her.
We weren’t making any progress with the orbs or Morianne. Our baby was out there, defenseless and vulnerable.
I dropped the papers in my hand and sagged in my desk chair. What more could I do? We were following every lead to dead end after dead end. With all the palace resources, we were still coming up empty.
I slammed my fist on my desk, and a few of my messages slipped over the edge and scattered to the floor.
I couldn’t find the orbs. I couldn’t find Morianne. I couldn’t find our baby, and I couldn’t get Sasha her powers back.
All I wanted was a little good news for her, and I had nothing....
Growling, I pushed the rest of the messages off my desk. They could wait until tomorrow. I needed time to think.
I pressed my fingers to my temple and sighed. There had to be a way to take Sasha’s mind off all of this. When we were in the other reality, she felt a lot better after we went to the beach. I could plan another romantic weekend getaway. We could use some quality time together.
Smiling, I started looking up good romantic weekend getaways that Sasha might like. I grabbed a notebook and wrote down a few ideas.
There were plenty of places in the Dark Realm to enjoy, like some tropical islands over in Saboreef with some top-of-the-line seafood. I also found a small town in another territory that was known for its art district. I had a feeling Sasha would like that.
When my phone rang again, I looked at the clock. I frowned. It was late, and I hadn’t heard from Sasha since she left to talk to her advisor.
Maybe this was her calling.
“Lucas, is that you? Are you there?”
“Uh... yes, this is me....”
“Good. I thought... I mean... I didn’t know....”
“Who is this?” I set my pen down and leaned back in my desk chair.
The woman on the other line sighed heavily. She breathed rapidly, bordering on hyperventilating.
“It’s Amanda, Sasha’s dorm mate.”
“Have you seen Sasha? It’s getting late. I haven’t heard from her.” I didn’t know why it didn’t occur to me that Sasha would visit her campus friends after seeing her advisor.
“Yeah, she was here. But... she left and....” Amanda gasped and sobbed.
I tensed, every muscle in my body going rigid.
“And...?”
“I watched from my window to see her get a cab. But she... Donovan was there and I saw him force her into a car.”
“What!?” I jumped to my feet.
“I called the police, but I wanted you to know. Whatever he wants with her, it can’t be good.”
