Sky-cracking Rider -
Chapter 890 - 890: Section 883 - The Fog Zone
After 14 hours of subsonic flight, the First Airship Combat Cluster merged the giant battleship, opening the thick rain clouds and slowly descending to the ground amidst fine rain and intermittent flashes of lightning.
The massive hull couldn't fly too quickly within the atmosphere.
Overlooking the ground from the sky, the Abnormal Region was filled with strange fog, intermittently spewing out colorful lights. The fog zone reached a height of more than 6000 meters, forcing Chen Fei to instruct "Adam" to control the airship and maintain a distance of 500 meters while "skimming" the descent altitude.
The terrain around the Abnormal Region was filled with undulating hills, sparsely dotted with low shrubs and wild grass. The vegetation was not lush, and only a few narrow streams could be seen, indicating limited water resources.
The AI "Adam" marked the distribution of personnel and vehicles on the ground for Chen Fei's AR visual assistance effect and performed recognition.
Ground personnel were mostly officials, soldiers, and technical staff from the local sovereignty, along with nomads living nearby. The latter numbered around a thousand, with some becoming small vendors on the spot, spontaneously forming a small market, adding a bit of liveliness to this wilderness.
Seeing the mammoth-like airship breaking through the thick clouds, casting bright lights to the ground amidst the lightning interpla,y and getting closer to the earth, many people even waved to the sky despite the rain.
The uneven terrain made it difficult to find a suitable landing spot in the hill-covered area. The giant battleship was a bit too large, and after much comparison, the AI "Adam" finally selected a region, allowing the ship to land completely with the bow and stern perfectly resting on the tops of two adjacent hills, like building a bridge.
Then, two small flying ships approached the giant battleship slowly from afar.
The communications group at the command center in the Midway Island sea area sent instructions.
"'Rookie,' the Persian Sovereignty's supply flying ships have arrived. Prepare to receive the materials and also need to open part of the cabins to accommodate the local survey team. They will also completely share all their investigative information with you. The survey team list has been sent."
"Roger that, 'Adam,' guide those two flying ships to land on the top deck, arrange for robots and transport tools to receive the materials. Open the bottom cabin doors and arrange combat mechs and Earth Element Users to establish a 100-meter radius isolation zone to accommodate personnel from the new onboard list."
Chen Fei responded.
The command center coordinated with the Global United Defense Committee headquarters and various sovereignties for quick information exchange.
The giant battleship projected several thin green beams on the top, constructing a guiding passage in the rain curtain, guiding the two small flying ships less than 50 meters long to land on its back.
The 600-meter-long airship, serving as a take-off and landing platform, could support the emergency take-offs and landings of small aircrafts, even for turboprop aircraft like the "Big Mouth Monster" without any pressure.
With visibly constructed guidance beams forming a channel, subsequent take-off and landing operations followed suit. The two small flying ships landed steadily one after another on the giant battleship's back, the entire hull along with the landing deck sinking inside the battleship right after landing.
The entire giant battleship evolved temporary constructed parts under Chen Fei's Psi Skill control as easily as eating and drinking.
The two small flying ships not only brought supplies for the hundreds of onboard personnel but also included those for the incoming survey team.
Such a massive airship arrived, naturally becoming the best base, eliminating the need to build camps on-site. Tents and simple houses couldn't compare to the ship's cabins.
Two reconnaissance drones shot out from the flight cabin port on the giant battleship's side, diving headfirst into the Abnormal Region with rolling fog, similar to the exterior characteristics of Gali Peninsula and Desert Peninsula in North American Continent of America—fog-laden visibility less than 10 centimeters.
However, the fog was just the apparent surface; entering it revealed an entirely different scene.
Adam: Wireless connection interrupted!
On Chen Fei's AR visual interface, the signals from two reconnaissance drones sequentially disappeared.
Yet, he wasn't worried; the drones' AI was also "Adam's" copy, with both preset action plans and autonomous capabilities.
For actions like exploring unknown regions, "Adam," good at adapting to changes, was more fitting than the derivative sub-bodies of "Cybertrom."
Moments later, a drone re-emerged, the signal restored, and a massive data transfer occurred.
The air composition inside the Abnormal Region was not much different from the data collected by the Persian Sovereignty Survey Team. The environment had not changed in the time before the giant battleship's arrival, filled with inert gases unsuitable for human survival. To venture inside, humans must prepare enough high-pressure air bottles, rather than oxygen bottles.
One out of two drones returned, while the other wasn't lost but smashed by a sudden unknown object. The remaining nearby drone happened to capture this scene.
Now a new situation arose, with the Abnormal Region within Persian Sovereignty not being a life forbidden zone but populated by creatures exceeding the common knowledge of Blue Star Civilization. They could fly and at high speeds; otherwise, a drone couldn't be wrecked.
The optical images brought back by the "luckily surviving" reconnaissance drone depicted a barren landscape in the Abnormal Region, with towering stone pillars of various shapes, some reaching hundreds of meters high, resembling branch-less and leafless trees, with the broadest having a diameter of a hundred meters, appearing like high platforms. The shortest was about one or two meters tall, resembling inconspicuous small stone heaps, and the thinnest like chopsticks, less than a foot long and slanted in the gravel.
Infrared thermal imaging couldn't detect any thermal radiation sources of life activity, including the unidentified flying object that shattered the other drone. The high-frame capture showed something resembling a bat ray with its largest section the size of a tabletop, a long, thin, and sharp tail, capable of flying in the sky with flat movement. However, observing the abnormally accelerated fog flow behind it suggested that the flight mode was likely more than just flapping wings.
"'Adam,' build a cable communication station, launch four reconnaissance drones and six combat drones for reentry."
Not waiting for the survey team from Persian Sovereignty to settle in the airship, Chen Fei initiated the operation first.
Two armored vehicles exited the giant battleship one after another, accompanied by more than twenty fully armed combat mechs, advancing close to the fog zone of the Abnormal Region.
Meanwhile, local nomads scattered nearby flocked to the position of the giant battleship; fortunately, the rock and soil walls built by the Ability Users surrounded the airship.
The walls were not tall, only slightly over three meters high, which an adult could climb over with some effort. However, the consequences of wall trespassing weren't desirable.
The more than two-thousand-meter-long rock and soil wall exhausted the Ability Users responsible for constructing the isolation zone to death dogs. The walls made from local materials posed no difficulty, whether with magic or Psi Skills, but couldn't withstand the large quantity and urgency. If delayed by a step, robust nomads might rush in, resulting in disputes not welcomed by anyone onboard.
Thus, once rules were set, violators deserved to be executed on the spot.
The rock and soil wall encircled the airship entirely except for two openings, one pointing toward the Abnormal Region and the other for the incoming survey team. The former was for exit, and the latter for entry, with clear divisions of labor.
AI-controlled vehicles, equipment, and mechs entered the fog zone without worrying about human survivability in the air environment.
Two armored vehicles with antennas moved, one into the fog zone of the Abnormal Region and the other stayed outside, connected by a fiber optic cable about one kilometer long.
A hair-thin fiber optic cable could carry a large amount of data transfer, not to mention the more than ten-core fiber optic cable with wave division multiplexing. The transmission bandwidth was obviously surplus, allowing for the lavish transmission of various real-time data.
This time, the drone fleet entering the Abnormal Region achieved real-time data synchronization via the cable's physical connection between two wireless communication relay points without much technical content.
The fog zone's situation was transmitted in real-time to Chen Fei and the three-dimensional holographic projection screen inside the ship's bridge.
