Chapter 104: Suit & Dress
Chapter 104: Suit & Dress
- Glyndon Walton: (Song of the Chapter: All Mine by Plaza)
And when my part came, she nudged me, eyes sparkling with mischief.
So I sang.
Laughed.
And fell for her even harder.
By the time we left the arcade, I was still on cloud nine.
Kat was beside me, holding her stuffed shark, smiling.
And all I could think was, this is it. This is what happiness feels like.
———
The car pulled up in front of Kat’s house, and for the first time tonight, I felt nervous again.
Not because I didn’t want to be here. I did. Desperately.
But because for the entire night, I had been able to touch her. Hold her hand. Pull her close. And now... I didn’t know if I still could.
So as the driver stopped, and she made no move to pull away, I did instead.
I let go of her hand.
I saw the way she glanced at me for a second as she noticed—but she didn’t say anything.
I swallowed hard. God, why was I like this?
We stepped out of the car. The front door opened before she could even reach for it, and then—there they were.
Her parents.
Waiting for us at the entrance, eyes scanning the two of us like they immediately knew something was different.
And before I could even panic—
Kat smirked, glanced at her parents, and said, "Guys, Glyndon is my girlfriend now. We’re dating."
Silence.
Her parents just stood there, completely still.
Like their brains needed an extra minute to process what had just been said.
Then—
Her mother’s hands flew to her mouth, eyes wide, and her father blinked like he genuinely didn’t believe his ears.
And then—chaos.
"Oh my god—Kathrine—finally?!" Her mom practically screamed, rushing forward to grab her daughter in a tight hug.
Kat groaned. "Mom—"
"Finally?!" Her dad echoed, shaking his head in disbelief.
Her mom pulled back just enough to look at her, and the amount of pure joy and shock on her face made my stomach turn with something warm.
"You’ve never brought anyone home before!" her mom said, shaking Kat’s shoulders slightly. "Never! Not a single person! And now you—oh my god, I need to sit down."
Her dad, still bewildered, turned to look at me, then back at Kar. "Wait. So you’re actually—dating?"
"Yes," Kat said, grinning now. "Glyndon is my girlfriend."
Her mom made a choked noise before immediately pulling me into a hug.
"Oh, sweetheart, welcome to the family!" she gushed.
I stiffened for a second—not expecting that at all.
And then her dad clapped me on the shoulder, grinning. "Damn. Guess we finally have a reason to celebrate, huh?"
I felt my face heating up, but I smiled anyway. "Uh, yeah. I guess so."
Kat was smirking at me now, clearly enjoying my reaction.
And before I could die of embarrassment, she grabbed my hand, lacing our fingers together, and pulled me toward the stairs.
"Alright, that’s enough, we’re going to my room—"
"Door open!" her mom called after us.
Kat rolled her eyes so hard it was a miracle she didn’t pass out.
"Mom, I promise," she groaned. "We’ve already done everything. So the door open, the door closed, doesn’t matter. If we wanted to do something, we would. That doesn’t mean we will, I’m just letting you know."
I turned red.
Like, completely, utterly, painfully red.
Her dad chuckled, very proud of his daughter.
Her mom wiped her face in distress.
And Kat?
She just grinned, squeezed my hand, and dragged me straight to her room.
We collapsed onto her bed, still laughing.
Her room felt different now. It wasn’t my first time here, but now... now it felt special. Like ours.
Kat grabbed some snacks from her nightstand, tossing me a bag of chips while she opened a candy bar for herself.
For a few minutes, we just sat there, eating, talking about nothing.
And then—
"Prom’s coming up soon," I said, glancing at her.
She snorted. "You sound excited."
I shrugged. "It’s the last big event before we graduate. The last party before everything changes."
She hummed, chewing on her candy thoughtfully. "I guess."
"Who are you going with?"
The second the words left her mouth, I froze.
I slowly turned my head to look at her.
She was staring back at me, totally unbothered like she had just asked me what the weather was like.
Like she hadn’t just pissed me off.
I narrowed my eyes.
She raised an eyebrow, waiting.
And then I leaned forward, glared at her, and said, "You. Obviously. Who the hell do you think I’m going with? Who are you going with?
A slow, teasing smirk spread across her lips. "Oh, I don’t know. Maybe Savannah?"
I deadpanned. "Kat. I will physically fight you."
She laughed, reaching over to flick my forehead.
I grabbed her wrist before she could pull away, holding her hand in mine.
She stilled.
Her teasing expression softened just slightly.
And then—she squeezed my fingers.
I squeezed back.
I was never letting go of her again.
We sprawled out across her bed, our legs tangled together as we lazily scrolled through Pinterest on her phone.
"Okay," she said, nudging me. "What are we wearing to prom?"
I hummed, pretending to think. "I’m gonna show up in jeans and a hoodie."
She gave me a flat look before shoving my arm. "No, seriously."
I grinned. "What, you don’t want to be the power couple that makes the biggest fashion disaster of the year?"
"If you show up in jeans, I’ll kick you out myself."
I gasped, putting a hand to my chest like she’d just stabbed me. "You wouldn’t."
She smirked. "Try me."
"That’s evil."
"That’s fair."
I narrowed my eyes at her, and she just smirked harder.
God. I like her so much.
I sighed dramatically. "Fine. I’ll take prom seriously."
"Good," she said, then shoved the phone in my face. "Now help me pick a dress."
I leaned in, and the second my eyes landed on the first dress, I nearly choked.
It was a deep, sultry red, completely backless, with a thigh-high slit and a plunging neckline that left almost nothing to the imagination.
I swallowed. Hard.
She smirked. "Like this one?"
I cleared my throat, acting like I wasn’t internally screaming. "It’s... nice."
She laughed, clearly enjoying my reaction, then scrolled down to another one.
This one was just as bad.
A sleek black dress, strapless, hugging every single curve. Tight. Short. Borderline scandalous.
I exhaled slowly.
"Kat."
She raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
I stared at the dress. Then at her. Then at the dress again.
"You cannot wear that."
She grinned. "Why not?"
"Because—because—"
Because I would combust the second I saw her in it.
Because no one would ever look away from her.
Because I would have to fight off every single person in that ballroom just to keep her to myself.
I clenched my jaw, trying to keep my voice even.
"You just... can’t."
Her smirk grew wider.
She scrolled again, and the next dress was somehow even worse.
Satin. Black. Clinging to her like it was practically painted on.
The slit ran up her thigh, and the front had a cutout that showed just the perfect amount of skin—too much skin.
I huffed.
She laughed. "I’m wearing something like this. You can’t stop me."
I groaned, rolling onto my back. "You’re doing this on purpose."
"Doing what?" she asked innocently, even though we both knew she was messing with me.
I glared at the ceiling. This woman is going to kill me.
She continued scrolling, showing me dress after dress, all of them just as sinful as the last.
And then—
Something caught my eye.
It wasn’t a dress.
It was a suit.
A women’s suit, dark red crop top underneath, perfectly tailored, powerful.
The jacket was left open, revealing a cropped, fitted top underneath that hugged the chest, dipping low enough to show just the right amount of cleavage. The pants were slim-fit, accentuating the legs, sleek and stylish.
It was... different.
And yet—I liked it.
I don’t know why, but I liked it.
Kat must’ve noticed I was staring because she suddenly stopped scrolling.
She tilted her head, looking at me with a knowing smirk.
"Do you wanna wear a suit?" she asked.
I blinked.
I looked at her. Then on the screen. Then back at her.
"I—" I hesitated.
She propped herself up on her elbow, waiting for my answer, her smirk never fading.
"You do," she said, grinning. "I can see it all over your face."
I exhaled, looking back at the suit.
Did I?
It wasn’t something I ever considered before.
I always assumed I’d just wear a dress like everyone else.
But looking at this—this suit, this confidence, this energy—
I felt... something.
Something that made me wonder if maybe this was exactly what I wanted.
I bit my lip. "I don’t know..."
Kat reached over and gently traced a finger along my wrist.
"You should," she murmured. "You’d look hot."
I froze.
She wasn’t even teasing anymore.
Her voice was softer.
More genuine.
I turned to look at her, my heart suddenly too loud.
"You think so?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes like the answer was beyond obvious.
"Glyndon. You’d look like a fucking dream."
Something warm flooded my chest.
I looked at the screen again, at the way the fabric sat so effortlessly on the model, the way it was both bold and elegant, both sexy and powerful.
And for the first time tonight, I didn’t feel nervous about what I’d wear.
I felt excited.
