Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon
Chapter 781 - 781: 778: Trollspire Dungeon Changes

Dungeons.

Even before the recent worldwide system upgrade that occurred in New Earth, dungeons had always been a part of New Earth ever since the apocalypse began.

There were various types of dungeons, and an example of a dungeon was an Open Dungeon.

An Open Dungeon was a dungeon that most people feared because of the danger it possessed.

Unlike Closed Dungeons that could only be accessed by entering its portal, Open Dungeons were... well... open.

The monsters in Open Dungeons were free and could leave their abode with ease, and anybody could also enter an Open Dungeon with ease.

An example of an Open Dungeon was the current mountainous region Corey was in.

Trollspire Dungeon.

Trollspire Dungeon was a popular open dungeon that was close to the edges of the Haven Continent.

The reason for it's popularity was due to the vast resources it contained. Minerals, ores, herbs, and the body parts of certain monsters like the blood of a troll, the core of a golem, and also the bones of certain mutated birds.

When it came to resources, Open Dungeons usually had more in quantity than other Closed Dungeons. But in terms of quality, it was usually a different case.

Although the Trollspire Dungeon was a popular Open Dungeon, that does not mean that it was not without its dangers.

In New Earth, mystic beings were seen as catastrophes by many humans, and Trollspire Dungeon was a dungeon that had more than five Tier 4s.

For most denizens of New Earth, they dared not to venture too deep into the dungeon.

However, something unusual began to occur two years after the recent worldwide system upgrade.

People began to notice that the number of monsters in the outskirts of the Trollspire Dungeon was getting fewer and fewer.

At first, it wasn't noticeable, but once Tier 1s and Tier 2s needed to reach the Inner Area of the dungeon to find a single monster, rumors began traveling around the adventurers and hunters of the Haven Continent.

And then it began.

A group of Tier 3 Hunters ventured into the Inner Area to try and obtain some resources, but to their disbelief, they realized that the number of monsters in the Inner Area was also getting fewer.

Because of how dangerous the core area of the Trollspire Dungeon was, they didn't dare to go into the core area of the dungeon despite their curiousity.

After an intense debate between the group, they decided to leave and report their finding.

However, on their way out, they suddenly saw an extremely dense and large black cloud.

At first they were curious about this black cloud, but when they saw a peak Tier 3 troll running away from the black cloud with the most fearful expression they had ever seen on a monster, they became wary.

But before they could react, the black cloud engulfed the troll, and then they all heard extremely subtle buzzing sounds that was like that of a mosquito being released from the black cloud.

The black cloud engulfed the troll in less than three seconds before moving away, allowing the group of hunters to see the troll.

Or to be more precise, what was left of the troll.

The troll was no more, and the only thing that was left was a pile of brittle bones that had no value at all.

The group of hunters were so frightened by this, especially when they saw that the black cloud seemed to be staring at them.

They were extremely baffled by this feeling and thought because from what they could see, the black cloud was not a living entity at all.

In fact, they had no idea what it could be. But the fact that they were feeling like the black cloud was staring at them was extremely uncomfortable for them.

Fortunately for the group, the black cloud ignored them and went deeper into the Trollspire Dungeon.

Without hesitation, the group of hunters ran for their lives and left the dungeon. Without thinking twice, they reported their findings to the leading force in the Haven Continent- The Kingdom of Miracles.

At first, this report was not treated seriously, but after more and more people began spreading rumors of the ominous black cloud and the lack of monsters in the Trollspire Dungeon, a year later, a team of top tier hunters were assigned to investigate the Trollspire Dungeon and the ominous black cloud.

This team of top tier hunters were comprised of six individuals, and these six individuals were Tier 4s.

The first individual was a Knight who went by the name, Garran.

The second individual was a Swordsman who went by the name, Lucas.

The third individual was a female assassin who went by the name, Lira.

The fourth individual was a female archer called Sera.

The fifth individual was a male mage called Thalor, and the last individual was a male healer called, Alric.

These six individuals stood at the entrance of the Trollspire Dungeon, and they could not help but have solemn expressions because of the eerie silence and seemingly lack of life they could sense from the entrance.

A dry breeze swept past them, blowing and lifting their clothes and hair.

"…This place is wrong," Garran the Knight said, his voice low but firm, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of his sword. "I've fought trolls, goblins, even a stoneheart golem. But never have I stood at the mouth of an open dungeon and heard absolutely nothing."

Lucas, the Swordsman exhaled softly and cracked his neck. "It's too quiet," he muttered, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the distant ridges. "I should be hearing something. Footsteps. Wings. Screams. Something."

Lira snorted and twirled a dagger in her fingers, flipping it into a reverse grip. "You want screams? Go poke something ugly with a stick. I'm sure whatever's in there will be happy to oblige."

Lucas rolled his eyes and scoffed, but a light grin could be seen on his lips.

"I don't like it," Sera, the Archer spoke, her voice soft but sharp. She had her bow in hand, string already taut with a nocked arrow. "I feel like I'm being watched… and not by something with eyes."

Thalor's expression was calm, but his eyes shimmered faintly with mana. Due to him being the Mage of the group, he was the most sensitive to mana, and he tried to perceive anything through the mana in the environment, and he did.

"You might not be wrong," he said. "The ambient mana here is… unstable. Almost like it's being devoured by something we can't see."

Alric stepped forward slightly and knelt, placing two fingers against the dry earth. A pale glow pulsed once from his hand, then faded. "…Even the land is quiet. I can only feel the life of plants and the earth, but it also feels like the land is being poisoned... Or should I say it's been corrupted."

"The land also feels... scared?"

A heavy silence settled over them the moment they heard the words of their healer. When it came to matters of vital energy, he was the most sensitive amongst them, and the fact that he had recently become a Tier 4 further amplified his powers.

Lucas spoke after some moments, "Still want to go in?"

"Of course," Garran replied without hesitation. "But I can't believe that we have to go on a mission of unknown difficulty the moment we became Tier 4s. Do they trust us that much?"

"Most likely," Lira smirked, "Or maybe they just see us as expendable pawns that can be replaced at any time."

"I doubt that. We've proven ourselves a lot of times. Besides, we're in the upper echelon of the Kingdom of Miracles when it comes to personal strength. How many Mystic Beings are in the entire Haven Continent?"

"Lucas is most likely right."

Garran said, and Lucas responded.

"I'm always right."

Everybody rolled their eyes, and then Garran spoke.

"We're Mystic Beings, and there are very few people and monsters that can challenge us in the Haven Continent. They cannot tell a bunch of Mortals to investigate this dungeon that has Tier 4 trolls for that matter."

Sera sighed. "Let's just make sure we come out anyway."

Thalor's eyes pulsed again. "Agreed. I'll be watching our mana flow and the mana flow of the dungeon. If it starts vanishing faster than it should… we pull back."

"Or we find whatever's devouring it and kill it," Lucas said, smirking.

Alric stood and dusted off his hands. "That's if there's anything left to kill."

No one replied to that.

How strange would it be if they actually found nothing to kill except for a black cloud?

How were they meant to kill a cloud?

Burn it?

Maybe?

They all turned to face the 'gaping maw' of Trollspire Dungeon once more.

Then, as one, they stepped forward.

Into silence.

Into shadow.

Into the unknown.

Not knowing that they were entering the Trollspire Dungeon at a completely wrong time.

The real clouds above began to darken.
