Chapter 89: Chapter 89

Outside the imperial palace, hundreds of carriages were slowly arriving, and it was packed with people. Luan and his parents had also just arrived and parked their carriage where the servants told them to.

"It looks like they went all out," Luan casually muttered, looking around at all the carriages that were constantly arriving.

"Well, that’s normal; it is the Empress’s daughter that is getting engaged. This could change a lot of things in the world," he replied, stretching his muscles.

Hana looked around, rather worried. "You two go ahead first. I will go find my parents to make sure they don’t cause a scene."

Drago chuckled, and the three split up, with some servants and guards following Hana and the others following Luan and Drago.

"So are you nervous?" Drago teasingly asked, a grin on his face.

Rolling his eyes, Luan sped up his steps. "Of course not, this much is nothing," he grumbled.

Drago just smiled, dropping the teasing; he could see Luan was very nervous by the way he was acting. But it made sense, for his engagement people from all around the world were coming and almost every major noble within the empire as well.

As the two entered the imperial palace, they saw an enormous hall decorated to perfection with tables stationed everywhere and hundreds of people happily chatting and enjoying the food and drinks provided.

Just thinking of the enormous amount this must have cost left Drago speechless. Even though he knew the empire was rich, was it this rich? This must have cost thousands of gold coins.

"They definitely went all out," Luan stated, staring at the gigantic hall packed with people and servants running around frantically.

Drago grabbed his hand. "Well, let’s go. You need to socialize as well. Build connections and those things, you know."

After saying that, Drago grabbed Luan’s hand and dragged him inside. After greeting one noble after the other together with Luan, he finally let him go.

"Now that you did the mandatory part, just go do your own thing. But make sure to act with grace and dignity at all times." After saying that, he left to catch up with old friends.

Luan, now left all alone, went toward the corner where a couple of couches were placed for whatever reason, but he couldn’t care less right now.

He hated places like this, chatting with other nobles and trying to win their favor and things like that. He hated them with a passion.

After he took a seat, he glanced around the room to relax until the announcement was supposed to be made, but then the whole atmosphere shifted.

At the entrance stood three people—one man and two women—all wearing white gowns, and Luan could hear the gasps from the crowd.

’They must be some big shots?’ He thought, but when he stood up to take a better look at the people, his eyes widened in disbelief.

Those were the crests of the Zekari Theocracy, and just thinking about that country sends shivers down his spine.

He looked around frantically to assess the situation, but it seemed they were a rather big deal if even in the Alderon empire they garnered that much attention.

And right after they entered, the Solvayne royal family entered as well. And the whole hall’s atmosphere shifted from rather relaxed to very formal.

Luan just sighed and sat down again; he hated all the stiff politics, so he was just going to ignore them and hope no one would notice him. After awakening, he didn’t have his family’s signature looks anymore, so no one would bother him.

Like that, an hour passed, but for Luan it felt like an eternity with nothing to do. He could only grab some food and drinks and slouch into the couch.

Staring at the ceiling to pass the time.

"This is so boring," he mumbled.

"You are right, this is super boring."

Luan’s head turned sharply when he heard a pleasant voice reply to his mumbling. There she was, the girl that had entered together with the others from the Theocracy.

"Why are you here?" Luan inquired, narrowing his eyes slightly.

"Why? No reason, but this is the only place where there aren’t a lot of people present," she said with a shrug.

As she sat down on the other opposite side of the couch Luan was also sitting on.

Luan narrowed his eyes even further and kept staring at her. "I am Luan Meskevela," he suddenly said. He couldn’t shoo her away, so at least he could introduce himself, and maybe she could help him alleviate his boredom.

"Nice to meet you, Luan. I am Jasmin Silver," she said with a polite smile.

"That’s a beautiful name, so Jasmin, you’re from the theocracy, I assume, looking at your attire," he replied, smiling.

"That’s right, and you said you’re a Meskevela, huh? That means you’re a big shot," she stated, while giggling.

Luan just nodded when he saw another young man walking toward them. "You know him?" he asked, pointing at the young man with short silver hair, who was slowly approaching them holding a glass with wine.

Jasmine looked at where Luan was pointing, and when she saw him, she just shook her head. "Never seen him before."

"Well, I guess we’ll have another person to chat with if he stays," he said while standing up.

"Hello, I am Luan. Who are you?" Luan politely inquired of the young man with silver hair, extending his hand.

The young man firmly grasped Luan’s hand and shook it. "Hello, I am Joel Solvayne. Nice to meet you," Joel replied with a smile on his face.

"A prince, huh?" Luan muttered, sitting back down. "They really invited a lot of important people, but why?"

"Beats me," Jasmine said, with a shrug.

Joel also shook his head. "We will never be able to understand the Emperor and Empress, so we just have to wait until the announcement is made."

"Makes sense, so why did you come here?" Luan casually asked Joel.

If he was from the Solvayne royal family, shouldn’t he be greeting nobles and all those types of things that royalty usually do?
