Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 86
Chapter 86: Chapter 86
The last week toward the capital went very smoothly, even though Luan was bedbound for the whole week with a high fever; he didn’t mind it a single bit.
Because he was being taken care of by Liana and all the other girls, he felt blissful. The whole time.
Just like that they arrived at the capital, and after going through the checks at the gate, Liana and Luan finally had to part ways. Because she had to go to the imperial palace already to report to her mother and father, he had to wait until tomorrow evening when the announcement was to be made.
"See you tomorrow," Liana shyly said, her ears turning slightly red.
Luan, without thinking, patted her head a couple of times with a smile on his face. "See you tomorrow, and thanks for taking care of me at my worst."
But Liana didn’t seem to hear him at all; when she felt his hand on her head, her slightly red ears started burning up, turning as red as a tomato.
The moment Luan lifted his hand, she dashed off and entered her carriage, slamming the door behind her.
He just stared at the carriage that took off immediately after a stunned look on his face. "Did I do something wrong?" he muttered to himself.
But he didn’t mind it too much. After that, he also reentered his carriage, and they went toward the mansion they had in the capital.
Liana sat down inside the carriage next to Eva. "I might have overreacted a little," she murmured, glancing at Anna, who sat across from her.
"Don’t worry, Liana, he won’t mind it; he’ll probably think that you’re cute instead of acting like that," she teased with a grin on her face.
Liana glared at her, and instantly her playfulness vanished. "You have them all right? The notes?" she inquired.
Anna nodded, taking out a single notebook. "Yes, this is everything about him for her majesty. So don’t worry too much, and also enjoy yourself. Not everything needs to be done for the empire; that is their job," Anna reassured her; she knew Liana really badly wanted to prove herself to her mother.
But the Empress was very strict, also because of her sigil; her standards were impossibly high. With a sigh, she looked with a worried look at Liana.
Eva nodded along at Anna’s words; she also knew Liana had self-esteem issues because of the overwhelmingly heavy expectations placed upon her by her mother.
As she placed her hands over Liana’s, "You did very well, my lady. So be confident in yourself."
David came riding next to the window suddenly, interrupting the conversation.
"My lady, we have arrived. I got word that the queen is waiting for you at the Crimson Hall. He also said that you should know what she expects," he politely relayed all the information he had gotten.
"Understood, thank you, David," Liana graciously replied.
Getting out of the carriage, followed by Eva and Anna, the three quickly entered the imperial palace and directly made their way toward the Crimson Hall.
Where the Emperor and Empress were waiting, just thinking about it made Liana’s heart beat like crazy.
But knowing that Eva and Anna were with her, she slowly got her nerves under control, breathing in slowly and exhaling slowly. Time seemed to come to a stop when she stood in front of the large crimson door.
Last time she was here, it didn’t seem so intimidating; instead, she was eager to enter, but now... Just entering was a tall task already. ’What if she isn’t happy with what I did? Would she cancel the engagement? Or worse, send me away to another country?’
Liana’s thoughts kept spiraling, becoming worse and worse by the second. Sweat started to trickle down her forehead, and her stretched-out arm that was about to knock suddenly came to a halt.
Anna and Eva turned to each other with knowing looks; this had been a common occurrence with Liana whenever she had to face her mother while reporting about something after the first time when she was severely scolded and punished.
That trauma was deeply ingrained in her mind. Anna took a step forward, standing right next to Liana. And with a reassuring smile, she turned toward her.
"Don’t worry, my lady, everything will be okay. You did great," she said.
When Liana heard those words and saw that familiar smile on Anna’s face, her mind suddenly relaxed, and she sighed in relief.
"Thanks," she softly said before knocking on the door.
"Enter."
She heard an ice-cold voice through the door; it was her father. Mustering all her courage, she pushed open the door and entered, followed by her two attendants.
When she stood in the middle of the room, she kneeled down with her eyes looking at the ground; she couldn’t afford to be careless now.
"You may raise your head."
She heard that same ice-cold voice say.
Only then did she slowly raise her head and look around to see who was present right now.
What she saw left her speechless: multiple ministers and all kinds of key personnel, even her own brother, half-brothers, and the other consorts, were present, all seated next to her mother and father.
She gulped; the nerves that she had finally suppressed earlier were back, and they were much worse. But she couldn’t go back anymore.
As she bit her lip, she looked her mother and father straight in the eyes with a resolute look in her eyes.
Caelius raised an eyebrow at her behavior, while Valessia had a gentle smile on her face for a split second.
Caelius cleared his throat, grabbing everyone’s immediate attention.
"So I heard from your mother that you decided to get engaged to this Luan Meskevela. The reason why we have called you here today is for you to tell us a bit about him and convince me that this engagement will be beneficial to the empire."
