Chapter 78: Chapter 78
Liana gazed at Luan, who was still leisurely seated there. As if everything happening right now was totally normal.
"Of course I didn’t do all this just for that. They also have a couple of questions," she said, pointing at the seven illusory figures seated around the table.
Luan raised his eyebrow after Liana said that. "Sure, fire away," he casually declared.
Liana and her two looked quite surprised at Luan’s declaration. Until now he was very laid-back and was acting like a bit of a dimwit.
But Liana felt like there was more to him than this "act"; it almost felt like he was showcasing it to them, so she was going to pay very close attention to the following discussions that were about to take place.
And see for herself if her mother was wrong for the first time in her life or this young man in front of her was actually exceptional.
First Alrec stood up, and with a polite bow, he addressed Luan. "If you are going to marry the lady, you will need to provide for her. Have you made any steps toward that goal?" he inquired.
"Of course, even though I didn’t know this would happen, the last several months while I was away, I have built up a business," Luan replied.
Kian and Luciano nodding along, both with proud expressions on their faces.
Alrec raised an eyebrow. "That’s good. And just hypothetically right now, if you were to be granted a fief before starting the academy. How would you handle its finances and taxes and all those types of things?"
"That is a very good question. Is it alright if, after this meeting concludes, I discuss it with my most trusted subordinates and hand my plans in writing to Her Highness this evening or tomorrow at the latest?" Luan said, with a smile on his face.
His performance had been going on for long enough; he really wanted to marry this princess, so he had to take it seriously from now on.
Kian heaved a sigh of relief at Luan’s reply. And he took a notepad out of his pocket to write down everything they would have to do later on.
Liana also heaved a sigh of relief. ’Looks like Mother was right again. But why was he acting like that at first’? She just couldn’t understand it. What was the point of the earlier shameful display?
Anna and Eva shared their thoughts. Being raised in an environment like the imperial palace surrounded by imperials and ministers, they couldn’t be acting like this, even though Liana was a troublemaker in her early years—that was when she was still a small child.
But right now both were adults, and still this young man acted like an uneducated bum for no apparent reason?
"Excuse me, Luan. Is it alright if I just call you by your name?" Liana interrupted.
"Sure, that’s fine. I’ll call you Liana then," he casually replied.
Liana nodded, "Why did you act the way you did earlier? I truly do not understand it," Liana inquired; she needed to know.
For her own sake and the relationship’s sake, if they were going to get married, they needed to understand each other and be able to work through small things like this.
Luan leaned back in his chair, "Because I felt like it."
Then silence ensued; Liana and her two attendants stared wide-eyed at Luan. The illusory figures as well.
Until Dren burst out laughing, "Pahahaha, I like you, young man."
Only after that did Liana snap out of it, question marks written all over her face. She couldn’t wrap her head around that reason.
She was secretly hoping it was for some profound reason she couldn’t grasp yet, but just because? What kind of answer was that?
Her shoulders slumped slightly as she sighed, "Thank you for the answer," she forced out.
Then Alrec, who had also snapped out of it, wiped some tears from the corner of his eye; he had also been laughing like Dren at Luan’s reply.
"That’s fine, young master. I am quite curious as to what policies you will come up with. Don’t forget you get it before the academy, and it is at the frontier," he reminded Luan.
"Got it. Anyone else have any questions?" he boldly said, meanwhile Kian was noting all the details of Alrec’s request down.
Now Dren raised his hand. "Yes, so he asked you finance-related questions. Now the real important ones will come from me," he proudly declared, puffing his chest out.
"Let’s keep going with Alrec’s suggestion of a frontier fief. How will you protect it? I am talking about defense, border security, and all those types of things. I shall be generous and give you till tomorrow evening to deliver a written report."
Luan chuckled at his pretentiousness but didn’t dislike that. "Understood, sir," he stated, slapping his chest with his fist.
Seeing that Dren had a stern look on his face, not trying to show any weakness or fondness for Luan. But all the illusory figures knew him better than that.
Luan had read him like a book, acting exactly like Dren, which he absolutely loved. After Dren sat down, another one stood up.
"Hello, I am Magistrate Velmon. I go over justice and the law. Now my question for you is, how will you handle all those things?"
The atmosphere shifted as Luan’s mood soured significantly. He was never big on these things but knew they were necessary for a prosperous fief.
Especially one where an imperial will live. Glancing at Kian and Luciano, they just nodded. Encouraging Luan to answer by himself, after all, he was going to be the lord of that fief.
Clearing his throat, Luan glanced at Magistrate Velmon, then at Liana, and then something seemed to click in his mind, a brilliant idea instantly forming. "I will leave that to Liana, my beautiful wife," he declared.
Velmon just stared at Luan for a while before a huge smile appeared on his face. "Wow, that was unexpected, but I like it. You pass," he declared as he took a seat once more.
Liana just blankly stared at Luan, her cheeks flushing slightly.
