Chapter 78: Subtle Gestures
Chapter 78: Subtle Gestures
The following morning, I woke up late, once again. Christian stayed true to his promise and kept me up half the night, making me experience multiple orgasms.
We were both still in bed, unwilling to get up.
"We need to start getting ready soon. Didn’t you agree to meet with Roan for lunch?" I asked while yawning.
Christian rolled over and placed his arm on my chest, "Just five more minutes." He was even more tired than I was and refused to open his eyes.
I took the opportunity to wobble over to the shower to rinse off any remnants of last night’s affairs. By the time I was finished, Christian had finally gotten out of bed and prepared to rinse off as well.
"Roan sent over the address of the restaurant. He wants to meet there in 45 minutes," said Christian as he hopped into the shower.
"Okay, sounds good. I’ll start getting dressed," I replied and walked back into the bedroom to pick an outfit.
Since it’s a business meeting and we will be meeting with others in public, I’ll wear something more professional.
Instead of opening the suitcase that I packed in Christian’s office, I opened the one that my mother had the servants pack for me.
Inside, there were various blouses and pencil skirts along with things like jackets, cardigans, and hosiery.
After getting dressed, I instantly transformed into a working professional, looking very office-appropriate. When Christian came out of the bathroom, he looked at me and frowned slightly.
"You don’t like the way I’m dressed?" I asked, looking at myself in the mirror.
Christian shook his head, "You look beautiful as always, it’s just that you’re dressed in an ’employee Leslie’ kind of way."
"Is that a bad thing?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
"Depends on who you’re asking. For me, it only tells me that you’re going to act like you did yesterday, like you’re only here for business."
I gave him a knowing look.
"I know, I know. I’m just telling you how I feel," he said, looking slightly dejected.
Shaking my head, I smiled, making my way over to his side.
"Then how about you take me home with you tonight, boss?" I said, winking flirtatiously.
Christian’s lips finally curved into a smile. He placed his hands on my hips and leaned in so that I could feel his breath on my neck.
"It’s settled then. Tonight you’ll be coming back with me to work overtime. And I won’t let you leave until you’ve finished."
His words were authoritative and demanding, stating it in a way that left no room for rejection. The air around us became hot and heavy as we gazed into each other’s eyes. There was no need for any more words as we could both feel the intense attraction between us.
Just as things were getting to the breaking point, Christian gently lifted my hand, "We should start making our way over. If we wait any longer, I may just decide to cancel the trip altogether."
The tips of my ears turned red. I managed to nod even though my thoughts were filled with other, more interesting things.
-
After we arrived at the designated restaurant, the professional waitstaff brought us upstairs to the private room.
Inside, Roan and Cherie were sitting calmly, waiting for us to arrive.
"Ah, Christian. You’re here! Good to see you again, Leslie, please have a seat," said Roan, standing up to shake Christian’s hand.
I greeted him calmly, noticing Cherie’s curious gaze all over me. She was dressed in a luxurious cream colored gown, giving off a very different kind of impression than my office-ware attire.
Christian pulled out a chair for me to sit down at before taking a seat himself.
"How are you feeling? Did the doctors say it was safe to be discharged?" asked Christian. He looked Roan over a few times with concern.
"Don’t worry, lad. The doctors were the ones who suggested that I get discharged. The only thing they said was to watch my stress levels," laughed Roan.
He looked much better today. His face was full of color, and he seemed more energetic overall. I listened quietly as Christian and Roan chatted happily, discussing topics like politics, current events, and of course, business.
It didn’t take long for the food to be served, and once again, I was surprised at how appetizing everything looked.
Christian, who was sitting beside me, flashed me a small smile. I noticed that he wanted to place of of the dumplings on my plate, but caught himself last second.
Instead, I reached out and grabbed on for myself, placing it on my plate.
"So Leslie, what do you think of the food here? I know it’s only your first time visiting this country," smiled Cherie. While her question sounded innocent, she was actually poking at that fact it was my first time here.
Did you not learn from last time? You’ll have to try a lot harder to get under my skin.
I quickly flashed her my best smile, "I find the food here incredibly delicious. The local cuisine is very flavorful and uses a unique blend of spices that I’ve never tasted before."
My overly enthusiastic response wasn’t what she expected to hear, causing her to simply nod with disinterest. "I find that it’s important to travel and experience different cultures, especially for people in business. Does your sister travel often?"
Ah, now the real show begins.
My lips curved up into a smile. I shook my head, "No, my sister prefers to stay home. She hasn’t traveled out of the country in years."
This bit of information hooked her interest. She leaned over slightly and pretended to gasp, "Oh! But how can that be? If she plans on being Christian’s wife, doesn’t she know that she should familiarize herself with at least the top one hundred of his closest business partners?"
She took a sip of her wine, shaking her head. "I’ve been traveling for a long time, paying close attention to the customs of various cultures just so that I wouldn’t embarrass my future husband in future business situations."
Her eyes glanced over at Christian. While she was speaking to me, she was trying to look good in front of Christian.
"Hmm, I don’t think she’s thought of that. You know what they say when people are in love, they don’t think straight," I replied.
Christian maintained a neutral reaction the entire time, as if what we were discussing had no relation to him.
Cherie’s face darkened slightly. I could tell that she wasn’t happy with my response. "Love? Surely you mean infatuation. Things like love take time to develop."
Her words made me think about myself.
Could what I feel for Christian simply be infatuation?
The next moment, I felt something warm press against me. Christian’s hand gently squeezed the top of my thigh discreetly under the table.
I quickly pretended to look at my food to avoid giving away my flustered expression. Whatever else Cherie was saying didn’t register in my mind.
-
For the rest of the meal, Christian kept his hand either on my thigh or holding my hand, refusing to let go for even a moment.
"Christian, I’m very curious to know, what was it about your fiancée that made you decide that she was the one?" asked Cherie with interest.
"She has a good family background and pristine reputation," he replied simply. I almost laughed at how lackluster his response was.
I don’t blame you. It’s indeed difficult to find good things to say about Morgan.
Cherie looked at him with confusion, "Oh, I see."
"Those are all very respectful reasons. This is why I’ve always told you to pay attention to your reputation," said Roan, cutting in before Cherie questioned it further.
"Dad, I’ve made up my mind! I want to go back and stay with Leslie and her sister. I think I could learn a few things from them," she said, fluttering her eyelashes.
The older man laughed, nodding with approval. "Although I have a rivalry with their father, I have faith in Christian’s ability to discern character. These girls can indeed teach you a thing or two."
I was all for her coming to stay with us. Her presence would not only cause Morgan to forget about me for a while, but seeing the two of them butt heads would also be a good source of entertainment.
-
With plans settled and Christian’s informal meeting concluded, we all stood up to go our separate ways.
"I wish you both luck at the gem mine. I look forward to the Sophia season launch," said Roan, shaking Christian’s hand once more.
"Thank you, I will be sure to send you an invitation as soon as everything is settled," replied Christian with a smile. He took a step towards Cherie to say goodbye, but she suddenly ran into his arms, hugging him.
"I remember how you used to hug me like this back when I first met you," she said warmly.
Christian froze. While he maintained a very calm expression, I could tell that he didn’t enjoy the sudden embrace.
"You were still a child back then. Things are different now," he said softly.
"Come now, Cherie. Don’t make things difficult for Christian. His fiancée’s sister is right here watching," said Roan with a smile.
Cherie took a step back and flashed a devious smile my way, "Oh, Leslie’s my friend. She wouldn’t make such a big deal over something so small, right?"
