"I’m sorry, princess, but I need to get to the bottom of your family matters first. I promise, as soon as that’s uncovered, I’ll come for you. Wait for me."

Leslie shifted slightly in my lap, still fully asleep. I let her lie in my lap for another ten minutes before I decided to carry her upstairs to the bed.
