Chapter 49: Party Preparations

The rest of the day went by quickly. I sent an invitation to Yulia to come to the company on Monday to discuss the theme and designs for the season launch.

I couldn’t help but feel extremely excited to meet her. After looking through her portfolio a few more times, I knew that she was the right choice.

There were only a few more weeks until the deadline, so the following days would be very busy, but instead of feeling nervous, I only felt excitement.

I’ll finally have something to show, something that I worked on will be brought to life.

An intense feeling of purpose and satisfaction surged through me. It was the first time I was given an opportunity to do something with my own ability, and things were going better than anticipated.

-

My phone buzzed in my pocket. I took it out to finally see the time, along with the driver’s message that he was on his way to pick me up.

"So soon?" I pouted.

"So soon what?" asked Christian from the couch.

I sighed, "It’s already time to go home. The driver just sent a message saying that he’s on his way."

Christian stood up, walked over behind my chair, and placed his hands on my shoulders.

"It’s okay. You shouldn’t be home for too long. Your dad is sending you to the Lombardi event tonight, correct?"

"You’re right. I almost forgot about that. Yes, he ordered Morgan and me to attend."

I looked up at him, concerned. "By the way. How are we supposed to get in? We don’t have an invite."

Christian smiled and began to massage my shoulders, "Don’t worry. While the Lombardis are your rivals, they wouldn’t deny entry to my fiancée and her sister."

His fingers gently rubbed my shoulders, working the stiffness out of my muscles. I tilted my head back and looked at him, "I just hope we don’t cause too much commotion."

Christian leaned down and kissed me. "I hope you do."

"Haha, are you trying to teach my father a lesson by giving him a heart attack?" I joked, giggling.

Christian smiled but didn’t reply. For a brief moment, I saw a flash of something sinister in his eyes.

I must have seen wrongly.

He was still smiling sweetly when my phone buzzed once more.

"The driver is here, I need to go," I said, standing up.

Christian placed his arms around me from behind, bringing me into his embrace. His lips tickled my neck as he peppered a few kisses, "I’ll see you tonight."

-

On my way down to the car, Christian’s words rang through my mind. There was something different about the way he promised to see me, and before I knew it, I felt excitement and anticipation.

The driver opened the door for me, bringing me back out of my thoughts.

"Second Miss, we need to hurry home so that you can make preparations for tonight’s event. Madame is worried you won’t have enough time."

I nodded and got into the car, "Let’s hurry back then."

-

As soon as I walked inside, my mother was already waiting for me in the foyer.

"Leslie, hurry and get ready. You only have about 3 hours before the event. Your dress is already in your room, quickly go!"

I bowed slightly and turned to head to my room with hurried steps. I was surprised she didn’t ask me why I left the company so early this morning, but figured she was more worried about this event.

As soon as I walked into my room, I spotted the box on the bed.

This must be the dress that was prepared for me.

When I opened the box, I was surprised to see a relatively simple dress. It was a black velvet, knee-length cocktail dress with long sleeves.

The material felt high quality, but there wasn’t anything exciting about it.

I guess I’m being more low-key today.

This dress didn’t bother me at all; in fact, I quite liked it.

I quickly undressed and hopped in the shower to rinse off before tackling the task of styling my hair.

Its long length made it difficult and time-consuming to deal with, but tonight’s event was something...special.

After drying it out with a towel, I applied a few special products and began blow-drying it. It took me over an hour to finish my hair alone, and I didn’t end up doing anything overly fancy with it.

Personally, I preferred it when my hair was down in soft waves or curls, but I knew my mother would comment on it, saying that it was too plain.

-

Another hour later, I was standing in front of my full-length mirror, checking myself out from every angle.

Initially, I felt pretty neutral about attending this event. I knew that Morgan and many other top families would be there, all fighting for Christian’s attention. It would be impossible for me to spend any time with him, especially with so many people around.

’I’ll see you tonight’

Christian’s simple yet sweet words played in my head over and over again, causing my initial indifference to turn into excitement.

I wanted to go there and show off. I wanted to catch his attention amidst a sea of beautiful women. I wanted him to look at me with longing and desire.

My desires showed themselves through the result of my efforts to get ready. The reflection that looked back at me in the mirror was perfect.

Everything was perfect, not a single hair out of place. I was confident that I looked good, and for the first time, I was very happy about it.

-

Peeking at the clock, I realized that it was almost time to go.

Morgan is most likely waiting for me. I should head out.

My tall, black stiletto heels clicked down the marble hall. I didn’t even make it fully down the hallway when I spotted Morgan, lit up like a Christmas tree.

Her dress was beautiful, but very busy. It was a cream colored base with many pearls and gems embroidered all over with gold thread.

Compared to my simple black dress, hers looked like she was off to some extravagant ball where she was destined to meet her prince charming.

"You’re finally here," she said in a slightly annoyed voice.

She lifted her chin and looked down at me condescendingly. "Good, at least you know how to dress where you’ll blend in with the crowd."

I spotted the brooch that Christian had gifted her pinned on her dress, completely out of place. Her other jewelry was strung around her, and none of it looked like it matched any other part of her.

"I’m sure you’ll be the star of the night, sister." My voice nearly cracked from holding back my laughter.

It was standard to wear dark colored dresses to evening events such as this, so Morgan would most definitely stand out.

My mother stood quietly beside Morgan with an exasperated look. I understood that what Morgan was wearing was not what my mother had sent over originally.

She cast me a quick glance and rolled her eyes, "Leslie, when will you take the time to do something with your hair? You can’t just have it down all the time."

But I like my hair down like this.

I didn’t reply and cast my gaze to the side.

"You both don’t listen. Fine, just go and don’t be late! Remember what your father told you, keep an eye on Christian."

Morgan covered her mouth and laughed, "Mother, don’t worry. As his future wife, he won’t leave my side. Don’t worry, we’ll behave."

I wanted to roll my eyes, but she quickly turned to me, "Just don’t get in my way. All you need to do is stand quietly in the corner somewhere."

Not wanting to hear her voice any longer, I simply nodded before walking out to the limousine, which was waiting for us outside.
