Chapter 46: Cheering Her Up [Christian POV]

After the meeting, I made my way over to Blake’s office.

"Sir, I have the snacks you asked for." He stood up promptly as I entered his office.

I glanced at the perfectly packaged tray of assorted snacks.

"Say, do you have any ideas on how to cheer someone up?"

"Someone?" asked Blake with surprise. He looked at me curiously from across his desk with an expression that said, ’What did you do now?’.

I looked at him, "A woman. I want to cheer her up."

His expression froze. I could clearly see the shock in his eyes, but said nothing to explain.

After a brief pause, he finally answered, "Well, ladies are usually very happy to receive gifts. Things like purses, shoes, jewelry, or flowers."

Hmm, gifts? That could work, but I’ve already given her dresses and jewelry.

I pictured the beautiful diamond necklace around her neck and smiled.

She doesn’t even know how important that necklace is to me.

"It really depends on why she was upset in the first place," said Blake after a few more moments of thinking.

I let out a sigh, "Yeah, but unfortunately, I’m not sure of the reason."

Blake flashed me a pitying look before nodding, "I understand, sir. Women can be very mysterious at times."

Why am I even asking him? I don’t think he’s ever been in a relationship before.

"Thanks, Blake, I’ll see you later," I said and picked up the tray of food.

As I reached the door, I turned around, "On second thought, can you order me a large bouquet of flowers. Have it delivered at lunch. Thank you."

"No problem at all, sir. I’ll have it done!" smiled Blake.

-

I made my way back up to the top floor to where Leslie was waiting for me, or so I thought.

As soon as I walked into her office through the side door from my office, I walked over to her desk.

"Hey, I’m back."

I placed the tray of food on her desk and watched her intently read something on the computer screen.

She didn’t react at all to my arrival and continued to concentrate on the computer screen.

She’s so adorable.

I walked back into my office to retrieve my laptop so that I could also get some work done, and walked over to sit on the couch in her office.

A full hour went by before she finally looked up and noticed my presence.

"Getting a lot done? You were so absorbed in your work that you didn’t even hear me calling your name earlier," I smiled.

The tips of her ears turned red. She looked so cute that I wanted to run over and kiss her.

"Oh, sorry! I was looking through the list of jewelry designers and their portfolios. I guess it took a lot of concentration," she said with flushed cheeks.

Oh? What a coincidence. She’s looking through the designers now. I wonder who she will end up choosing. Something tells me it’s not Lorenzo.

"I see, good work. I left you some snacks on your desk if you get hungry," I said, motioning over to the tray of food on her desk with my eyes.

Her eyes locked onto the various snacks on the tray. Before she even had a chance to pick anything up, her stomach growled so loudly that I heard it clear as day from the sofa.

Cough! I muffled my laughter with a fake cough.

Poor thing must be really hungry. I’m assuming she didn’t have a chance to eat breakfast today.

"Sorry, I haven’t eaten since lunch yesterday. I’m quite hungry," she said shyly.

What? She didn’t eat anything since lunch yesterday? Was she punished and banned from dinner?

I assumed whatever happened yesterday was related to her sad mood today.

The few snacks on the tray weren’t enough, she needed a proper meal. However, I knew that if I offered to order her something, she would decline, saying those small finger foods would be enough.

I’ll just tell her that I’m hungry and am ordering for myself. That way, she won’t deny the meal.

"Well, if that’s the case, let me order breakfast. I’m quite hungry myself," I said, quickly pulling out my phone to message Blake.

[The snacks weren’t enough. I’m hungry and want more; a proper meal this time.]

Blake quickly replied:

[Of course, will a bagel and coffee suffice?]

A bagel and coffee? Of course not!

[No. Get me an order of pancakes, waffles, an omelet, quiche, bacon, eggs benedict, fresh fruit, yogurt....and a bagel with coffee.]

[ ... Anything else?]

I thought to myself for a minute as I peeked over at Leslie, who was stuffing her cheeks like an adorable squirrel.

[Juice, milk, and any other beverage that looks good.]

Blake didn’t respond for a few minutes, causing me to frown. I was about to send him another message when my phone buzzed.

[Should I call Dr. Rossi to come for a checkup?]

Why would I call Liam over for a checkup? I’m just ordering breakfast??

[No, just the food, thanks. Oh, and as quickly as possible, please.]

When I looked back up from my phone, I noticed that Leslie’s hands were shaking.

She’s starving. Delivery will take too long.

After making up my mind, I stood up and put my phone into my pocket. "Hang tight, I’ll be right back."

She nodded and turned her attention back to the charcuterie board.

-

Once I was inside the elevator, I pulled my phone out again.

[Send me the address of the restaurant, I’ll pick it up myself.]

Blake sent over the address of the restaurant as soon as I reached my car.

"Good, it’s not too far away," I said, checking the map on my phone.

Ten minutes later, I pulled up to the front of the restaurant. It was a nice bistro-style restaurant that looked like it specialized in breakfast and brunch.

I recognized the logo from the cups of coffee that Blake has delivered to me in the past.

So this is the place with good coffee. I’ll have to come back here one day.

My thoughts drifted to Leslie. I pictured her sitting across from me at one of the outdoor tables, happily eating her food.

The thought was calming and warm, causing me to break out into a small smile.

As soon as I walked inside, the scent of coffee and baked goods filled the air.

Leslie would definitely like it here.

"Welcome, sir. Table for one?" a kind waitress walked over and asked.

I shook my head, "No, I have a pickup order. Here’s the order number," I said, showing her the confirmation on my phone.

She nodded, "Just a minute, sir, I’ll get that right out for you."

While I stood by the service counter, I could feel everyone’s stares. The table closest to me had two young women sitting, drinking coffee.

"Well, hello there, handsome, care to join us?" one of them asked, overly flirtatiously.

The other one beckoned me with her finger, "I’ll even buy you a coffee, what do you say?"

While I felt annoyed, I decided to decline respectfully, "Thank you for the invitation, but I must decline."

"Oh, don’t be like that. It’s not every day that you get to share the company of two beautiful women," she giggled.

Beautiful women? Compared to Leslie, you’re both as plain as they get.

"Miss, I assure you. I’m on my way to accompany the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on, so please have some respect."

My voice came off sounding cold, but I didn’t care. I needed to hurry up and deliver this food to Leslie.
