Chapter 31: Catching Up [Christian POV]

"We’ll take another round for the table!" I called out to the waitress, receiving a blissful smile in return.

"Someone’s in a good mood. Tell me, what happened? You’re never this generous," probed Zachary teasingly.

I frowned, looking at him, "Never generous? If I remember correctly, I’m always the one paying for these get-togethers!"

"He’s right, you know", chimed in Liam.

Liam was our other childhood friend. He went into the medical field and was usually very busy, so he hung around less often than Zachary.

Zach took a sip of his drink, averting his gaze.

"Still, you are in a much more cheerful mood today. I’m curious too," said Liam.

I took a sip of my cold whiskey, hiding my satisfied grin. Even now, I can still feel Leslie’s scent lingering around me, constantly reminding me of the more than enjoyable time we spent together earlier today.

Zach’s and Liam’s eyes were glued to me, waiting for me to spill the news.

I think I’ll keep it a secret for a little while longer.

I recently hired a new assistant, she’s very bright. I’m expecting a big payout next quarter from Sophia Jewelers.

Liam slumped back into his seat, uninterested.

"Here I thought you hooked up with a beauty or something. You’re always so business-oriented; if you keep this up, you’ll never get to taste a woman."

You couldn’t be more wrong. I’ve more than tasted.

I laughed, but Zach answered for me, "Didn’t I tell you? Christian is engaged!"

Liam slammed his glass on the table, spilling some of the whisky over the table, "WHAT? When did this happen? Who is it?"

Zach burst out laughing as I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah. You’ll never guess who. She’s a Moresi!" he said.

Liam choked again, looking at me as if I’d gone insane, "A MORESI? Oh god, do I need to bring you to the hospital?"

I leaned back in the leather seat, shaking my head.

"Don’t worry, I’m mentally sound. Let’s say it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, I figured it would help me get the evidence I need to bring them down."

Liam continued to shake his head, unable to process my words, "I didn’t think you could tolerate spending a single moment in the same room as them. You have the patience of a monk, I need to learn from you."

Patience? I used to think I had that until I met her.

My mouth curved into a smile again as Leslie invaded my thoughts.

"So, which one? Don’t the Moresis have two daughters? I hope it’s the older one at least, I hear the younger one is pruder than a nun," asked Liam.

Prude?

I took a deep breath and pictured how Leslie looked beneath me as I made her orgasm over and over again.

The mental imagery was so vivid that I felt something twitch in my pants, causing me to whisk the thoughts away.

"It’s the elder sister, Morgan," I replied.

Liam nodded, "Good, hopefully she’ll do more than just lay still in bed when the time comes. Nothing’s worse than fucking someone who’s frozen stiff, laying like a vegetable".

Zachary burst out into laughter while I let out a chuckle.

"Yeah, we’ll see. I’m not planning on getting that far with her. I just need her to get close enough to get her father to lower his guard," I explained, lighting up a cigarette.

"Aww, c’mon man. If I remember correctly, the elder sister is quite beautiful. I don’t remember how the younger one looks," said Zach, egging me on.

I took another sip of my drink. "Do you want to see them?"

Zachary immediately nodded, and Liam looked over curiously.

"Yes! I want to!" said Zach enthusiastically.

"Come to the art showcase on Friday night," I finally said with a feint smile.

Liam nodded and pulled out his phone to add it to his calendar.

"Isn’t that event hosted by the Lombardi Family? If I remember correctly, they have a daughter too, and they’re business rivals to the Moresis. Should you be hanging out with them?" asked Zach, looking at his phone.

I let out a low chuckle, "It’s precisely that the two families hate each other that I need to spend time with them. Only when tension is high do secrets begin to slip as everyone’s focus is on something else."

Liam sighed, "This is why I didn’t go into business, your brain is wired differently."

"Of course it’s wired differently, how many people do you know who went from nothing to the most successful business empire in a few short years?" said Zach.

Liam waved his hand, "I know, I know. But back to the Moresi thing, aren’t you worried your bride will find out you’re using her?"

"Nope. She’s already overly obsessed with me. It’s a bit off-putting how she parades me around, claiming ownership over me. So even if she finds out eventually, I don’t really care," I frowned.

Zach smiled, "Ah, keeping you’re options open with the Lombardi’s then. I do remember their daughter being the prettiest one in the upper circle. Do you agree?"

I shook my head, "While the Lombardi girl is pretty, there’s one other who’s a true beauty."

Zach looked over with interest, "Spill it! Who?"

"If you come to the event on Friday, you’ll see her", I answered vaguely. Knowing Georgio’s personality, he will definitely drag his family over, even uninvited.

I turned to look at Zach, "Your turn. How’s the information gathering going? Did you discover anything worth the sports car?"

Zach let out a deep sigh, "Not yet. That auction house is like an impregnable fortress. The only thing I was able to find was some fat, sketchy-looking guy who kept going in and out."

His description made me think of the repulsive man from the last dinner event I attended at the Moresi mansion.

If this man is related to the auction house, I need to figure out what his role is in all of this.

I remembered the way he openly lusted over Leslie that night, and her uncomfortable look. I was ready to throw him out of the house.

It was strange that Georgio and Lucia didn’t mention propriety. Even with me, they made sure all of my interactions with Morgan were proper.

Something is off about this. I need to figure it out.

"Keep an eye on that man. I want to know where he goes and what he does in his free time," I said, giving Zach another task.

"Okay, boss. Just keep that red sports car ready for me!" he smiled happily.

The rest of the evening was spent hanging out with my friends. But on more than one occasion, I found myself looking forward to tomorrow so that I could see her again.
