Secretly Mine -
Chapter 140: Burns
Chapter 140: Burns
Just as Lucas was about to answer me, a woman turned around quickly, causing the hot coffee from her cup to spill out towards me.
Lucas acted instantly, pulling me into his arms to shield me from the oncoming coffee. The next instant, the back of his expensive white button-up shirt was drenched in hot coffee.
"Lucas! Are you okay?" I cried out, still in his embrace.
He looked at me and smiled gently, "I’m okay. How are you? Are you hurt anywhere?"
My eyes watered as I looked up at him. His embrace was very warm, and our close proximity allowed me to smell his subtle cologne, which gave me a sense of comfort.
How can he worry about me when he was just scalded by hot coffee?
I felt both touched and worried. My hands shook as I looked at him, waiting for him to release me so that I could see how bad the injury was.
Instead of releasing me, he tightened his arms around me ever so slightly.
"You smell very nice," he said quietly. The entire interaction only lasted a few moments, but it caused my cheeks to blush slightly.
Lucas then released me from his embrace and took a step backward to place a respectable distance between us. I immediately walked behind him to take a look at how big the spill was.
Nearly his entire back was drenched in coffee, and the thin shirt clung to his back.
"Oh, I’m so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention." The woman walked over with her half-empty cup of coffee.
Lucas remained very calm and collected despite the large burn on his back. He smiled gently at the woman and shook his head. "I’m quite alright. Please don’t worry."
She nodded gratefully and left the coffee shop, but I wasn’t happy.
"Lucas, we need to check it out. The coffee was just brewed, so it must be very hot. Your skin could be burned."
He looked at me with nothing but gentleness. "I’m truly lucky today, having the beautiful Miss Moresi so concerned for me."
"Lucas! I’m not joking, we need to get some medicine!" I urged, but the tips of my ears still turned red.
I quickly pulled him out of the coffee shop, not caring about our orders, and led him outside. "Should we go to the hospital?" I asked with worry.
"No, no. It’s not that bad, I promise," he said, shaking his head. "Let’s head to the small convenience store nearby. I can buy a temporary shirt and maybe some burn cream."
"Okay. Let’s go," I pulled him down the street, where we took a few steps before he laughed.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the store is the other way."
My face turned red as I quickly turned around. This time, I walked beside Lucas to avoid repeating my mistake. The convenience store was only a short walk from where we were. We went inside to find a new shirt and some burn cream.
As soon as we paid for the two items, I led Lucas out of the store, holding his hand. I was worried that if we didn’t apply the cream in time, the wound could get worse, but Lucas kept telling me not to worry.
"Take off your shirt. I’ll help you apply the cream," I said as soon as we found a small bench. Lucas paused and looked at me. I could tell that he was hesitating.
"Now isn’t the time to be worried about propriety. I consider you my friend, and you need to hurry up and get the medicine applied," I urged, understanding why he was hesitating.
"As long as you’re okay with it." He didn’t even get to finish his sentence before I motioned for him to hurry up and take off his shirt. He smiled and complied, methodically unbuttoning his luxurious white shirt.
As soon as his shirt came off, I quietly averted my gaze. Lucas was much more muscular than I initially thought. He had a set of broad shoulders and chiseled abs that rivaled Christian’s.
How are all of these businessmen so chiseled?
I shook my head, doing my best to see past the attractive qualities of his body, and went around to look at his back. The entire area of his lower back was bright red from the burn. There were a few smaller red spots between his shoulder blades, showing how much of the coffee spilled on him.
"Lucas, this must hurt so much!" I said softly. I reached out and gently pressed my fingers on his skin.
"Ah!" he winced from my touch, causing me to immediately pull away.
"I’m sorry!" I couldn’t imagine how much pain he was in.
This was supposed to be on me. If he didn’t pull me away, I would be the one covered in these burns.
"It doesn’t hurt that bad, don’t worry," he said, looking back at me. I knew he was only saying that to make me feel better. There was no way something like this didn’t hurt.
I pulled out the tube of burn cream and liberally squeezed some out on my finger. "I’m going to apply the cream now. Let me know if it hurts too much."
"Thank you, Leslie. I really appreciate your concern."
"No, I’m the one who should be thankful. You’re in this state because you protected me. Thank you, Lucas," I said, as I placed the first dab of cream on his back.
Lucas didn’t make a sound, but his entire back tensed. I tried my best to be as gentle as possible as I continued to apply the cream all over his back. I started at the top, applying the cream to the smaller spots between his shoulder blades.
My eyes couldn’t help but wander slightly, taking in the sight of his strong, muscular shoulders. I was also impressed with how clean and clear of blemishes his skin was.
Get it together, Leslie. He’s in pain, and you’re ogling his muscular shoulders!
I took a deep breath and focused, only focusing on the task of applying the cream. A few minutes later, his entire back was lathered. I most likely used too much cream as the tube was nearly empty, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a single spot.
"Thank you again, Leslie. I really appreciate your help," said Lucas, standing up to put on the new shirt.
"No problem at all, but I really think you should go see a doctor. Your skin was very red," I replied, looking at him with worry.
He nodded, "Okay, if you insist, then after this, I’ll swing by a clinic for a doctor to check it out."
His words put a smile on my face. I nodded, and just as I was about to bring up going back to the coffee shop, my phone buzzed. It was the driver saying that he was close by.
