Chapter 139: Another Unexpected Encounter

After the shower, I only had a few minutes to get ready before the driver showed up. Christian felt a little guilty that he used up so much of my time in the shower, but I would not have traded it for anything in the world.

"I’ll see you tomorrow," I smiled as I walked over to the double doors of his office.

Christian smiled back and walked over to open the door for me. "I’ll ride with you partway. I have an appointment with a few people here shortly."

We both entered the elevator and rode down until we reached the lobby. Christian gently caressed the back of my hand. "See you soon."

"Bye," I smiled and stepped out.

The doors closed behind, blocking my view of Christian. He was most likely going down to the parking garage level below.

Turning around, I stepped into the lobby and pulled out my phone, waiting for the text from my driver. Ten minutes went by, and I still didn’t hear anything from him.

That’s strange, he’s usually here by now.

Just as I went to send him a message, my phone buzzed.

[The driver is with me. Work some overtime or something.]

Morgan’s message popped up on my screen, causing me to frown. "Could’ve said something earlier.."

I looked through the windows outside and noticed that it was a beautiful sunny day.

Maybe I should take this opportunity to go for a walk?

Christian had already left, and there wasn’t any work for me to get done, so I walked out of the front doors and onto the sidewalk outside.

The warm, sunny air immediately brightened my mood. I was so glad that the sun was still up in the sky even though it was after 5 pm. My desire to explore the center of the city only grew with each passing step, but as soon as I turned the corner, I walked into something.

"I’m so sorry!" I cried out, taking a step back. But as soon as I looked up, a smiling face greeted me.

"Leslie! Are you okay?" Lucas looked down at me. His golden hair was glowing in the sunlight, making him look like an angel.

"Lucas! What are you doing here?" I asked with surprise. This would be the second time that I ran into him while I was out.

"I’m just taking a stroll around in the nice weather. What about you? Did you just finish work?" he asked, glancing up at the building that I walked out of.

"Yes! My sister is currently out, so the family driver is with her. I decided to take the time to explore the city a bit," I explained.

Lucas’s face lit up. He looked at me with warmth and gentleness. "If that’s the case, how about we explore together? There’s a new café just up ahead that I’ve been wanting to try. I’m still trying to find a spot that knows how to make coffee the right way."

I arched my brow at him. "Oh? I didn’t know that you were a coffee connoisseur. Sure, I’d love to go for a stroll."

After our pleasant walk through the park the previous Sunday, I felt a lot closer to him. He was someone who was very easy to talk to and proved to be a great listener.

"I knew today would be a good day when I woke up. Running into you here just confirmed it," he laughed, showing off his perfectly white teeth. "Come, the café should be just up the street. I have high hopes for it."

Lucas subtly took my purse out of my hands, carrying it for me as we walked. It was a larger tote-style purse, so I was grateful for his kind gesture. As we walked, Lu8cas pointed out a few other coffee shops he’s already visited.

"That one across the street was so disappointing. I followed their social media page for weeks before it opened and had such high hopes, but the moment I tried, I was left disappointed. "

I giggled, picturing Lucas walking out of the coffee shop with his head down, looking like a sad puppy.

"I never realized how much of a coffee fanatic you are! It’s quite surprising!" I smiled, teasingly.

He leaned over towards me, but maintaining a proper distance, "I hope you can help me keep this secret." His face was full of smiles, enjoying the attention. "Not many people know this great weakness of mine."

"Great weakness?" I laughed. "I feel like I hold such power now."

Lucas laughed with me, nodding his head, "You really do."

We were still laughing by the time we arrived at the coffee shop. There was a long line of people waiting to order, so we queued up to wait our turn.

"There seem to be a lot of people. Those who have already received their coffee look satisfied," I said quietly after observing the others in the small café.

The pleasant scent of coffee lingered in the air, causing me to take in a deep breath. While I enjoyed a good cup of coffee, I didn’t have any major preferences like Lucas did.

"What do you think?" I asked softly.

Lucas put on a thoughtful expression and studied the store carefully. "The brand of espresso machines and coffee grinders is good. This place certainly has potential."

My eyes widened.

"Wow, you can tell by the brand of the machines?" I asked, surprised.

Lucas nodded, "Of course not! Each machine brews coffee differently. It could make a major impact on the overall taste."

He leaned over and smiled as if he was sharing some top secret information, "But the most important part is the coffee beans themselves."

I giggled then pretended to be shocked by such a major revelation.

"The beans?!"

He shook his head very seriously, "Exactly. The beans."

By the time we finished giggling and discussing the various coffee beans, it was finally our turn to order.

"Hello, what could I get for you today?" The smiling barista greeted us warmly.

Lucas stepped forward and looked at me, allowing me to order first.

"I’ll have an iced coffee. Black, please."

Lucas repeated my order to the barista, "I’ll have the same thing, please."

"Sure thing, two black iced coffees coming right up."

We walked over to the end of the counter, where others were waiting for their orders.

"I’m surprised you ordered the same thing. For some reason, I expected to hear you order something fancier, like one of those espresso lattes," I said, looking at him curiously.
