Chapter 553: Chapter 553 Do Something to Try to Survive

Before Rod could finish his sentence, he stopped.

There was no one in the cabinet.

There was only a neatly folded quilt and two pillows.

"Shit!" Rod cursed.

The more he looked at the neat quilt, the more furious he turned. He pulled it out, threw it to the ground, and stepped on it.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" he cursed as he did so.

After venting his anger, he picked up the walkie-talkie and said to the person on the other end of the line, "Keep an eye on that woman. When I get back, I’ll cut off her mouth!"

After saying that, he smashed the cabinet door.

With a bang, the cabinet door fell to the ground and made a loud noise.

When there was no one around, Rod stopped hiding his dark side and forgot about all manners.

Like a bandit, Rod smashed the room frantically. Then he walked to the mirror and tidied up his clothes and hair.

Then facing the mirror, he opened his mouth, showed his teeth, revealed his signature smile, and then walked out of the room, looking relaxed.

After the sound of footsteps faded away, Yvette came out of the cabinet.

It was just that she came from the cabinet in Room 8019 instead of that of Room 8020.

She was glad that she reacted quickly. The minute before Rod entered, she climbed back from the balcony window.

After climbing back to Room 8019, she hooked the balcony window with a hanger and closed it.

That was why Rod did not have any idea.

She looked at the dilapidated door. There was a strange sense of dread in the deserted corridor.

She had been hiding in the cabinet earlier, hearing every bit of Rod’s movements as he smashed the room next door.

No matter how soundproof the hotel room was, Rod’s tearing down was still too much.

She was lucky that he did not do the same to Room 8019. Otherwise, he would have known that she was here.

Yvette took a deep breath, cheered herself up, and then walked out.

When she reached the door, she hesitated for a second.

Then she went into the bathroom and tapped the pipeline three times short.

Afraid that Lance did not hear her, she repeated.

She was telling him that she was doing fine.

After that, she walked out without waiting for him to reply. According to the map given by Braxton, Yvette found the elevator very quickly even though it was her first time staying in this hotel.

Then she hesitated.

She pondered in front of the elevator door for a second and then chose to take the stairs linked to the emergency exit.

She was worried that someone might be guarding the elevator. Once they noticed that the elevator was being used, things would get tricky.

Neither fast nor slow, she walked steadily up to the sixth floor, where the wedding was.

At the emergency exit, she crouched down, pushed her phone through the crack, and recorded the scene outside.

Then she took the phone back and checked the video cautiously. There was no one guarding the outside.

She thought, after all, there are only three of them, so they can’t keep every corner guarded.

Besides, Rod is confident because of the detonator in his hand. Once he finds that something is off, he can detonate any point he wants.

He is not afraid of any threat at all.

According to Commander Lambert, they are on the top floor of some secret place. There are also helicopters and four fully-armed members of Shadow Army waiting.

The men are armed with heavy sniper rifles capable of killing the strongest tigers and the fastest lions.

Even if we use helicopters to attack them, the helicopters can be shot down, leading to personnel damage, if we are not fully prepared.

However, they are afraid of America’s military power, so instead of stopping at the hotel center, they are hiding somewhere and waiting for word from Rod.

Right now, Commander Lambert is ordering his subordinates to check out those bandits’ hiding spots.

He is going to take them all down and burn Rod’s bridges.

Yvette carefully pushed open the door, trying not to make a sound. Then she ran towards the edge of the floor.

She even threw her shoes into the trash can and ran with her socks on to prevent herself from making sounds.

After arriving at the edge of the floor, according to the map, she found the tiny bomb behind the fire hydrant.

It was the first time that Yvette had seen a real bomb in real life.

It was very different from what she had imagined.

The device was rudimentary, not those high-tech ones she saw on TV.

It looked like a plastic box with three exposed aluminum wires of different colors attached to it.

Obviously, it was made after Rod arrived in America.

Otherwise, there was no way Rod could have brought it directly into the country with America’s controls on firearms and ammunition.

She took out her phone, took pictures and videos of the bomb’s details, and sent them out.

She also informed Braxton of the number of people and which floor they were on.

Regarding the rest of the bombs, Yvette did the same. She went to those spots carefully and took pictures and videos.

Rod didn’t want the Secret Service agents to hack into the surveillance cameras, so he disabled all of them, which was why Yvette was able to go everywhere without being seen.

After the mission was completed, Yvette waited for Braxton’s reply.

Soon, Braxton replied: "You can go to B2F in the parking lot. There is a small door there. Get out through the door, and we will meet you at the exit. Be careful."

Yvette hesitated for a moment and replied: "What about the explosives?"

She figured that the reason why Rod was so arrogant now was that he had the detonator. If they could eliminate the explosive threat and send the Secret Service agents upstairs, they might have a better shot.

Braxton replied: "You don’t need to worry about that. We have plans. Please come out."

Yvette glanced at the terrifying building and figured that Braxton made a point. After all, she was not a professional, and acting rashly would only cause trouble for them.

She obeyed his order and left the sixth floor.

By the time she reached the basement’s first floor, she was so tired that she sat down to have a rest.

She had just rested for less than a minute when she heard the same footsteps from earlier again.

She panicked and quickly hid behind the door.

She heard a man speaking to the walkie-talkie, "Be there in a second, with explosives..."

Yvette was shocked.

When the footsteps faded away, she went out and saw that the man had gone to the basement second floor.

She had a bad feeling.

She called Braxton immediately, and the call was picked up in a second.

"Are you out?"

"No, Commander Lambert. I saw a bandit go down to the basement second floor with explosives!"

Braxton’s voice was a bit serious. "Did you see it clearly?"

"Yes. He seems to have found the exit and is going to plant the explosives!"

The next second, she heard Braxton say to the walkie-talkie, "Evacuate immediately."

Then there was a loud noise inside and outside the phone at the same time.

Fortunately, Yvette threw herself on the carpet at once, which was why she wasn’t knocked down.

The phone fell to the ground, and the call was cut off.

Yvette knew that the exit underground must have been discovered, and the Secret Service agents originally wanted to send someone in from downstairs to defuse the explosives crisis.

She was afraid to bump into the bandit who returned, so she quickly picked up her phone and hid in the power distribution room next to her.

By this time, her phone satellite signal had become very weak.

It was down to one bar, and sometimes there wasn’t any signal at all.

Yvette tried to reconnect with the command room, but after trying several times, nothing worked.

Yvette changed several spots and finally, she regained signal when she was next to the window.

Then Frankie called.

He sounded very anxious as he said, "Ms. Thiel, don’t worry. We are still looking for another exit."

Frankie had been staying with the Secret Service agents and thought that Yvette could come out through the exit. However, the exit was ruined by the bandits.

Right now, Frankie was flustered. He was worried about both Yvette and Lance.

Yvette was in danger, yet she was calmer than Frankie.

She said, "Give the phone to Commander Lambert. I have something to ask him."

"Yes?"

Yvette asked, "Rod made the remote-controlled explosives himself. I remember that with this kind of explosives, the bombs cannot be detonated as long as we cut the fuse for the remote control. Is that right?"

Yvette thought, I didn’t have a clue about bombs until I saw some books with the relevant introduction in Dad’s study.

He is a military fan who spends a lot of time on such sorts of books, and he also introduces them to me from time to time.

So, I know more about explosives than anyone else, even though I’ve never seen explosives in person.

Braxton replied: "Yes, in theory. Remote control explosives are a special kind, and there is a remote control lead inside every bomb. Once the lead is cut, the bomb can’t be controlled anymore."

"Alright then. I guess the experts should be able to tell which one is the remote control lead from the video I just sent you, right?"

It seemed that Braxton realized what she was up to, and he was silent.

Yvette said, "Commander Lambert, I’ll cut off all the leads, and then you can have your men come in through the windows. There are only three hostages in the whole building, including me. Even if I am discovered, they will only have two hostages in their hands then. I’m sure they won’t kill the hostages easily."

After all, hostages were meant to be bargaining chips.

Rod was already one step away from success. He had thought that after controlling Rosewood Hotel, he would have at least a thousand hostages. It never occurred to Rod that Lance had already known that he would be here and evacuated the crowd in advance.

If Rod dared to shoot the two hostages at will, then the Secret Service agents didn’t have to be cautious anymore. They could rush into the building, and then Rod and his men would not be able to escape.

Yvette told Braxton about her analysis, and of course, the two were thinking the same thing.

However, Braxton found it hard to put a young woman with no real experience at such a risk.

Yvette said, "The clock is ticking. Commander Lambert, I’m sure that you know that this is the best way. I will get the job done."

Braxton thought about it for a while and finally turned her down.

The army was disciplined, and they would not put ordinary people at risk, let alone an unarmed woman.

"Sorry, I can’t promise you. We can’t risk your life. Please stay where you are and wait for our rescue."

Yvette nodded. "I understand."

She knew Braxton’s concerns. He wouldn’t put civilians at risk.

However, Rod was a dangerous, crazy man. With every minute passed, Lance’s life would still be put in danger.

So, after she hung up the phone, she dialed Zachery’s number without hesitation.

Zachery did not know that Yvette was in danger. Because of his poor health, Marlon kept many things from him.

Yvette opened her mouth and said, "Dad..."

She was trying to hide her emotions, but as soon as she opened her mouth, she was already choked up.

Zachery instantly noticed that there was something wrong with Yvette, and he said, his voice old and full of concern, "Yve, what’s wrong?"

Yvette immediately collected herself, cleared her throat, and said, "I’m fine, Dad. I choked on some water."

"Oh. Are you there now?" Zachery asked.

He did not know about the transfer and thought that Yvette was still on a business trip.

"Yes, Dad."

Hearing his voice on the phone made her sad easily. Yvette changed the topic and said, "Dad, I remember that you know an old officer who can handle explosives, don’t you?"

Yvette remembered that there was an old officer abroad who was very close to Zachery. The officer had a lot of experience handling explosives when he was abroad.

"Krish Joan? What about him?"

"Well, do you remember Alyssa Bertram? That friend of mine who is a director? She is filming something, and some of the scenes are about explosives. I want to ask Krish about something. Can you tell me his number?"

Zachery had always believed Yvette. He said, "Sure. I’ll give him a heads-up and let him tell you everything he knows."

"Alright. Thank you, Dad," Yvette said, choking a little again.

"Silly girl. You don’t have to thank me. Take care of yourself while working. Kamila and I are looking after Belle, and you have nothing to worry about."

"I see. Dad, you take care, too."

"I know. When you come back, tell Marlon in advance and let him pick you up at the airport."

"OK, Dad. I’ll hang up now."

When she hung up the phone, a tear rolled down her cheek.

Yvette did not know how to choose.

She thought, if I don’t do anything, I have 60 percent of surviving, and Lance only has 10 percent.

There’s another possibility that he and I both die because of the explosion.

So, in either case, I’m going to do something to try to survive.

She videoed talk with Krish and showed him every detail about the bomb. According to Krish’s judgment, it was a common continental remote-controlled bomb.

Finally, he pointed out that the yellow one was the remote control lead.

Krish didn’t know about the situation. He thought that Yvette was showing him a prop, and it was practically the same as a real one.

He had retired for many years, but he was still a professional. Seeing the self-made bomb, he could not help but sigh, "The props for the drama are so realistic nowadays. It looks so professional."

After Yvette thanked Krish, she stared at the yellow lead for a long time.

In terms of professional knowledge, she trusted Krish. And just as he said, the bomb’s structure was pretty straightforward. It seemed that Rod didn’t have the right tools to make it, or it would have been a better bomb.

Rod’s influence, though considerable, was limited to those areas outside America.

America was very strict with these illegal devices.

He couldn’t make a better explosive under the circumstances, so he had to make do.

Fortunately, it became the loophole for Yvette to easily cut the bomb’s fuse.

She gathered her courage, raised the scissors in her hand, and told herself to be brave.

She cheered herself up for a long time, but when it was time to do it, her whole hand was shaking.
