Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Into the Eyes, Into the Heart, Into the Demon
Jiang Zhiyi returned not long after he had left, looking dejected and downcast.
Xu Chenxi felt secretly delighted inside; it seemed like he hadn’t seen anyone after all. Yet on the surface, she put on a concerned expression and said, "Did you not see Sister Yiyi? I’m sorry, you ran out before I could finish speaking. Actually, when I saw her, Sister Yiyi was already preparing to leave. It looked like she was planning to go out."
"But, didn’t you call her?" Xu Chenxi feigned surprise as she asked.
Jiang Zhiyi was somewhat frustrated and flustered.
That girl had blocked him directly; he couldn’t contact her at all now.
He had initially planned to go find her later, to pester her until she forgave him no matter what. He had not expected that he wouldn’t even have the chance to see her face.
"Did you two have a fight?" Xu Chenxi continued, probing.
"Yeah," Jiang Zhiyi replied irritably and distractedly, only half listening.
However, he didn’t mention the breakup. In his heart, it wasn’t over until he said so.
Seeing his demeanor, Xu Chenxi couldn’t help the surge of happiness within her; it seemed like they really had broken up. As the corners of her mouth instinctively curved upward, she fiercely suppressed the smile and instead showed a face of worry, "Is it some kind of misunderstanding? Is there anything I could do to help?"
"No, there’s no need."
Jiang Zhiyi hadn’t forgotten that the girl was angry with him precisely because of Xu Chenxi.
Forget it, it was clear that the girl didn’t like Xu Chenxi. If she went to talk to her, it would likely only add fuel to the fire.
Xu Chenxi continued to comfort him, "Don’t overthink it; Sister Yiyi might just be acting on impulse. When she cools down, it’ll be fine. After so many years of affection between you, she definitely won’t be willing to truly break up with you."
"Yeah," Jiang Zhiyi comforted himself in the same way; he had known her for so many years and didn’t believe she would really want to break up with him.
It must be just because she was too angry this time.
Once she calmed down, he would coax her, and everything should be fine.
Suddenly thinking of something, he raised his head and said to Xu Chenxi, "Oh, and in the future, don’t just enter my room whenever you like. After all, we’ve both grown up now."
Xu Chenxi’s expression stiffened, and her smile struggled to remain as she said, "Did Sister Yiyi get upset? Is it a misunderstanding? Should I go explain it to her?"
"No need; it has nothing to do with her. I just don’t find it appropriate," Jiang Zhiyi said.
"I understand," Xu Chenxi replied, her lips pressed into a pale line, concealing the disappointment in her eyes, "I haven’t finished my homework; I’ll go back to my room."
As she turned around, the smile fell entirely from Xu Chenxi’s face and a trace of spite flashed in her eyes. When she got back to her room, she suddenly lashed out, sweeping all the books and stationery from her desk onto the floor.
Yet when she thought of the two of them having broken up, her mouth once again involuntarily curled into a silent smile.
She picked up a notebook from the pile of items on the floor and pulled out a photo from inside it.
In the photo, the young man had disheveled, unruly hair and leaned against a window, eyes closed, as if he were asleep, with earphones stuffed in his ears. Sunlight danced across the boy’s delicate side profile through the gaps in the leaves outside the window, and his fair complexion looked almost translucent. The entire scene resembled a beautifully shot idol drama poster—so captivating it was hard to look away.
She had taken it secretly not long after she had arrived at the Jiang Family, while Jiang Zhiyi wasn’t paying attention.
Some people catch your eye and become an obsession.
Xu Chenxi caressed the contours of the person in the photo and slowly brought her face closer...
