Ch. 90 - Blood and Flesh Sacrifice

The entire conference room fell silent, with everyone staring at Wei Wei as he ate his buns. Meanwhile, Brother Zhu Zai poked his head in and handed Wei Wei a bowl of egg drop soup. Captain Ouyang and the others watched with intense gazes, making Wei Wei feel a bit pressured. He managed to eat four buns and two bowls of soup before signaling Zhu Zai to stop sending more. He straightened up, ready to listen.

“Little Wei, we’ve already visited the sacrificial site,” Captain Ouyang began, his voice direct. “I brought back one of the peripheral hunters and had Zhu Zai interrogate him. We found the site and the method of contact, but when we arrived, it was empty.”Wei Wei wasn’t surprised. These sites likely had the ability to relocate temporarily. The last time he rushed in, they were preparing to move, and they would shift at the slightest disturbance. It wasn’t unexpected that they had heightened their vigilance after one site was compromised. Wei Wei could even guess that their relocation method involved Life Demons. Fourth-state Life Demons could cut off living flesh from themselves, which could then be grafted onto other Life Demons. This might be why they recruited so many Life Demon Transcendents. If there was any disturbance, these Transcendents would use the flesh grafting method to move the sacrificial flesh away.“But we’ve found enough clues,” Captain Ouyang said, his voice slightly subdued. “And I think I know what they’re doing.”Wei Wei looked up in surprise: “Hmm?”“Blood and Flesh Seal,” Captain Ouyang replied.Lin Feng Jiao, Young  Brother Lin, the team’s analyst, took over the explanation: “I’ve compared the content of the Origin Book  and analyzed the symbols and marks left at the two sacrificial sites. Thus, the life system has powerful sealing methods.”“Once we confirmed the sacrificial nature, we could make some guesses. Someone left this powerful Blood and Flesh Seal, but what it seals is also very powerful. It’s hard to estimate what kind of power is needed to maintain this seal.”“So, there’s the Blood and Flesh Rose organization, and their sacrificial sites. In simple terms, this organization exists to ensure the seal’s power... as a preparatory organization. Their purpose is to perform sacrifices when the seal’s power is insufficient.”Wei Wei listened, impressed by the team’s professionalism. Though they weren’t skilled at writing reports, they were incredibly powerful. After a brief pause, he asked: “So, what are they sealing?”The faces of the Scrap Iron City superhuman peacekeepers changed slightly, as if this topic was heavy. It seemed they had made a careful decision to discuss this with Wei Wei. All eyes turned to Captain Ouyang.Captain Ouyang looked at Wei Wei and spoke softly: “We suspect it’s the God's Death Knell.”The room’s atmosphere became oppressive. Although everyone knew this and was prepared to tell Wei Wei, the topic still felt weighty. Wei Wei remained calm, listening intently: “Oh.”Captain Ouyang furrowed his brow: “You already knew?”“Yes,” Wei Wei replied. “Uncle Yuan told me.”Captain Ouyang had heard this term before but still wasn’t used to it. He paused, then continued: “The legend of the God's Death Knell  isn’t a secret in Scrap Iron City. It’s not surprising that Uncle Yuan knows, but do you know its importance or what makes it truly terrifying?”Wei Wei thought for a moment: “Uncle Yuan said it influenced the course of the Second Secret War?”Captain Ouyang’s eyes narrowed: “He knows nothing.”“Uncle Yuan is a good person…” Wei Wei thought but didn’t argue with Captain Ouyang’s dismissal. After all, Captain Ouyang was also a good person.“Little Wei, you come from a training camp. Do you know what superhumans with demonic powers fear most?” Captain Ouyang asked gravely.Wei Wei looked at him seriously but didn’t answer. Superhumans feared many things, and he wasn’t sure what Captain Ouyang was getting at. If they can break this constraint, they won’t just avoid degeneration; they’ll reach a higher rank.”“That’s the rank of gods or demons. This is God's Death Knell’ greatest secret, and why both the Foundation and the Church want it so badly.”As the conversation grew more serious, Wei Wei became curious. Although he was a good team member, he wondered why Captain Ouyang shared such important secrets with him.Lin Fengjiao looked at Captain Ouyang, who nodded, before turning to Wei Wei: “The Blood and Flesh Seal is just one type of seal. Depending on the specifications, the arrangement of the altar, the number, and the method of sacrifice differ. But if what’s sealed inside is indeed the Divine Bell of the Gods, I think this Blood and Flesh Seal must be the highest level described in the Origin Book.”“It’s called the Life Prison.”He unfolded a printed version of the Origin Book and a map beside it: “If it’s this seal, following its setup ritual and process, I estimate there should be seven sacrificial sites in total, arranged according to the demonic symbol of the Tree of Life, scattered throughout Scrap Iron City.”“Even if there are adjustments, the degree of change won’t be large.
