Scarlet Descent
Ch. 71 - Professional Skills

"Kill him..."

Wei Wei’s words caused a heavy silence to fall over the group of black-robed individuals. Countless suspicious and shocked gazes landed on his face. Among them, three people looked especially startled, their expressions gradually turning into fear.

At that moment, a figure in ceremonial robes at the back of the group spoke in a low voice:

"Or just kill him outright."

"Everyone else, prepare to evacuate."

The surrounding people were stunned, their panic evident as they looked around nervously. Before they could react further, three men emerged from a corner of the inner hall, each carrying an M249 light machine gun. Without a word, they aimed their weapons at Wei Wei standing in the pit.

The priest didn’t even need to give an order—blazing tongues of fire erupted from the gun barrels immediately...

Clatter...

Three streams of bullets crisscrossed toward Wei Wei’s position. The air twisted with the heat of the bullets, and the deafening roar of gunfire filled the hall. The flashes from the muzzle lit up the surroundings in bursts, but when the light dimmed for a moment, the pit was empty—Wei Wei’s smiling figure had vanished. The next instant:

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots rang out suddenly, and four black-robed figures were struck in the head, their bodies flung backward.

"There he is!"

Someone shouted immediately upon spotting commotion among the crowd and pinpointing Wei Wei’s location.

The three guards didn’t hesitate—they opened fire on the area of disturbance, even though many of their own companions were still there.

The Life Demon system’s unique traits ensured their remarkable vitality. In situations like this, where both friend and foe could be caught in crossfire, it was considered an acceptable trade-off.

Even among the four who had been shot in the head and knocked down earlier, two of them began trembling and soon got back up. Life Demon Second-Form Ability: Damage Sharing

Even fatal injuries like headshots could be distributed across all cells in their bodies.

For others, such injuries would result in an exploded skull; for them, it was akin to receiving a full-body massage—down to the cellular level.

The only difference was that this ability required immediate activation upon receiving damage. If their heads were blown apart before they could activate it, death was inevitable. Thus, out of four people struck earlier, only two survived. Rat-tat-tat!

Amidst the sweeping gunfire from afar, Wei Wei darted swiftly through the group of black-robed individuals like a crimson shadow.

Around him was a constant spray of torn flesh as bullets ripped through bodies.

The black-robed Life Demons screamed and wailed as they were mercilessly gunned down by their own guards. Wounds appeared on their bodies only to heal almost instantly—except for injuries to vital areas that healed more slowly. Even as they cried out in pain, they flailed desperately toward Wei Wei with outstretched hands.

Most of them were at Life Demon First or Second Stage levels.

Wei Wei quickly assessed this while gaining a clearer understanding of his current "overtime." Life Demons at these stages lacked strong combat capabilities—they were essentially punching bags.

Their reflexes and speed showed little improvement compared to ordinary humans. Their enhanced vitality made them slightly stronger than average people due to better physical health and stamina—but that was nothing compared to Wei Wei’s Scarlet Abilities and his rigorous training at the camp.

Excitement surged within him...

When it came to killing, his professional skills had always been top-notch.

And Life Demons were his favorite targets...

Sturdy.

Resilient! Moving like a blood-red blur amidst flickering flames and chaos...

In an instant, he reached one of the guards wielding a machine gun. Blood vessels surged visibly in his eyes as he crouched low and lunged forward—driving his knee into the man’s groin.

The guard groaned in pain and bent over instinctively. Without hesitation, Wei Wei raised his black short-barreled pistol and fired—Bang!—blowing a hole through the man’s head. The body collapsed as its flesh twitched briefly before succumbing to death.

Against Second-Stage Life Demons who could share damage across their bodies, shooting them directly in the head wasn’t enough to kill them outright.

First came a knee strike to distract them with excruciating pain—forcing their attention and energy toward that area instinctively. Then came a well-placed headshot to deliver effective damage instantly.

Kicking away the fallen machine gun into the pit below, Wei Wei surged with bloodlust as he crouched low again—hoisting another black-robed individual onto his shoulders before charging toward a second guard like a human battering ram. Bang-bang-bang-bang!

The second guard opened fire without hesitation—intent on blasting both Wei Wei and his makeshift shield into pieces.

The black-robed individual used as a shield was indeed torn apart by bullets—exploding into a mist of blood—but Wei Wei had vanished amidst the carnage.

The next moment... sensing danger from above...

The guard looked up sharply—and there he was: hanging from the ceiling with his pistol aimed squarely at him.

Instinctively focusing all his energy on protecting his head while raising his weapon...

Life Demons never feared shootouts. Bang!

Wei Wei fired first—a searing bullet tore into the guard’s skull before he could react fully.

This wasn’t just any bullet—it carried eerie blue flames that clung tenaciously to its target upon impact. The flames spread relentlessly across his body while inflicting excruciating pain that pierced through his very soul—shattering nerves completely as he writhed on the ground screaming uncontrollably. Hunter-Series High-Energy Bullet Model 2: Green Head Ghost

Designed specifically for combating Life Demons—it delivered continuous damage over time but came with one drawback: its exorbitant cost. Bang-bang-bang!

Before Wei Wei could finish off this second guard entirely—a third opened fire furiously at him.

Aware that eliminating these guards was crucial in such confined quarters—the third guard roared as he unleashed wave after wave of bullets toward where he thought Wei Wei might be lurking...

But amidst his rage-filled barrage... there was no sign of that crimson shadow approaching him stealthily...

Calming himself slightly while scanning around cautiously—he finally spotted his target: crouched beside one of his burning comrades’ corpses with unwavering focus—kneeling precisely while aiming directly at him from across the pit...

Panicking slightly—the third guard redirected fire toward this stationary target...

"Come on! Let’s see who wins this shootout!"

Before his bullets reached their mark—a single shot rang out from Wei Wei’s position.

This time—the bullet carried strange crimson patterns etched along its surface...

In an instant—the third guard’s weapon shattered violently as fragments embedded themselves throughout his body... As silence fell over what remained of this blood-soaked hall—the air thickened with metallic tangs mingled with agonized cries echoing faintly amidst scattered survivors...

Many black-robed individuals—even those possessing First or Second Stage Life Demon powers—were left utterly terrified by this sudden massacre...

Desperately scrambling toward exits—they found themselves blocked by yet another barrage of bullets raining down mercilessly...

Standing at one doorway—with blood dripping from every inch of him—was none other than Wei Wei, cradling one of those heavy machine guns now transformed grotesquely by crimson tendrils snaking through its structure...

The small white shoes tied to his waist swayed back and forth.

"Who the hell are you?"

Amidst the panicked crowd, the priest roared angrily and charged toward Wei Wei.

But the chaotic flow of people hindered his movements, making him far less agile—even as a Third-State Life Mentor.

His combat abilities were no match for the guards wielding heavy firepower.

At the door, Wei Wei faced the crowd. He raised his leg high and slowly closed the half-open door with his foot.

"I’m just a person, that’s all..."

Looking at the terrified faces and black robes before him, his smile grew even gentler.

Both of his hands were bleeding, and the blood, along with strands of crimson threads, seeped into the heavy machine gun he held. The weapon’s structure began to change gradually—blood-red patterns emerged, its barrel turned grotesque, and its caliber expanded bit by bit.

It was as if a demon had opened its jaws wide.

"Don’t rush..."

He smiled as he spoke: "No need to fight or scramble. You’ll all die soon anyway. Thank you!"

As he finished speaking, terrifying bullet fire suddenly erupted like a demon’s roar echoing through the narrow space.

...

...

"Why?"

In the underground mahjong parlor, everyone’s expressions changed upon hearing Captain Ouyang Jian admit to it.

Hadn’t the White Ghost Knights maintained a stance of tolerance and reconciliation toward those outside the city ever since entering it?

Why had their attitude shifted so drastically this time, issuing such a stern warning in such a forceful manner?

Weren’t they afraid of provoking the Seventh Wandering Sect Leader?

Uncle Gun was especially shaken. He began to doubt whether he and his teammates had underestimated Captain Ouyang Jian all along.

He even felt an overwhelming urge to rush back and check their bullet inventory immediately.

"Why..."

Facing the old woman’s narrowed eyes, Captain Ouyang Jian suddenly felt a surge of anger rise within him:

"I’d like to know why too..."

"I..."

"......"

But before his anger could fully erupt, a woman’s soft gasp suddenly echoed through the room—a sound that felt entirely out of place in this solemn and even grim atmosphere. Captain Ouyang furiously stopped mid-sentence and grabbed his phone.

"What is it, Feifei?"

"Hmm?"

Suddenly enraged and aggrieved, he shouted: "I only told you to patrol the streets!"
