Scarlet Descent -
Ch. 68 - Pure Sacrifice
"Are demon worshippers these days really this useless?"
"They can’t even last half an hour before giving up..."
Wei Wei sat on the clean floor, disinterestedly lighting a cigarette.
In front of him, the Love Demon worshipper hung motionless from the chandelier. His body...
...well, let’s just say there were still a few parts that could be recognized as human.
...And besides, Wei Wei hadn’t gone that hard on him—he was still alive.
"A mysterious organization..."
"Seven high-quality sacrifices..."
"..."
Sitting across from him, Wei Wei smoked while organizing the information he had extracted during the interrogation.
The Love Demon system Transcendent in front of him had been recruited as an outer member of a mysterious organization three years ago. However, this organization was peculiar—it wasn’t active and hadn’t assigned him any tasks that would expose his identity. On the contrary, they had even eliminated a few members who couldn’t control their desires and excessively used their demonic powers to satisfy themselves.
His only responsibility was to begin "breeding" when given instructions.
Twenty days ago, he finally received an order: within one month, he was to regularly deliver sacrifices.
He had already delivered two batches before this—mostly homeless or streetwalkers—because they were less likely to attract attention. However, his superiors had expressed dissatisfaction and imposed stricter standards for this final batch of sacrifices: ten pure souls.
Since this was the last task he needed to complete, he didn’t refuse.
"I... I couldn’t refuse..."
"You have no idea how mysterious and powerful our leader is..."
"I don’t believe there’s anyone in this world as powerful as him. Just sitting quietly in front of me, he made me lose the courage to even lift my head. Even stealing a glance at him through a mirror almost burned out my eyes with an invisible force. I can only obey everything he says. He promised me freedom and blessings as long as I upheld our agreement..."
This Love Demon system Transcendent didn’t even believe that man was human—he thought he was either a demon or... God.
That was why he had been so desperate to keep this secret at all costs.
Of course, Wei Wei quickly found a way to persuade him otherwise.
It was obvious that compared to the "god" who appeared before him three years ago, he was far more terrified of the...
...handsome law enforcement officer standing before him now.
Wei Wei believed the man wasn’t lying, but he didn’t particularly care about most of what he said. He only cared about one thing:
"Where did you get that Blood-Flesh Rose tattoo on your wrist?"
"Blood-Flesh Rose..."
"I don’t know what a Blood-Flesh Rose is, but I’ve seen similar patterns on the wrists of the stewards..."
This Love Demon Transcendent answered while on the verge of death. Summoning all his strength, he asked weakly:
"I don’t even know if the patterns on their wrists are what you’re looking for—but did you find me because of this tattoo?"
"...But didn’t you notice something?"
"This thing on my wrist—it’s just a damn rose!"
"..."
"...?"
Wei Wei was stunned for a moment.
He thought back to Ye Feifei’s unreliable efforts—he’d asked her to find a rose-like tattoo and she’d found this. A rose instead of a Blood-Flesh Rose? She couldn’t tell the difference between two flowers?
Lost in thought, Wei Wei slapped himself in frustration—he’d let it get to his head and started doubting Feifei’s goddess-like abilities...
"Hoo..."
"Unpolluted... pure sacrifices..."
"..."
Having gotten the answers he wanted, Wei Wei slowly stood up and surveyed the room filled with seven girls wearing black collars around their necks.
The man before him belonged to the Love Demon system and thus had an exceptionally keen intuition in this area. Sacrifices were selected based on two criteria:
The quantity of sacrifices.
The quality of sacrifices.
Quality referred not only to whether the sacrifices met specific standards but also to their "purity." This purity indicated how free from inner turmoil or resistance they were during the sacrificial process—the more pain and struggle within their hearts when sacrificed, the more impurities and malice would taint the results. Such sacrifices were undesirable for those receiving them.
The calmer and purer a sacrifice’s heart was, the higher its quality would be during the ritual.
This explained why many evil texts often targeted infants or children as ideal sacrifices—they were seen as lambs. "The organization’s symbol is something like this rose pattern?"
Wei Wei recalled his photos—childish doodles with twisted designs resembling roses—and realized Wang Mo no longer had enough energy to distinguish such details anyway. He didn’t even need to take out his photos for confirmation.
Instead, his thoughts raced: Is this organization somehow related to the Blood-Flesh Rose I’m searching for?
What exactly are they doing with so many sacrifices?
Closing his eyes briefly before reopening them with newfound determination—and barely concealed excitement—Wei Wei resolved: Whatever it takes, I have to see this for myself.
After all, this was the closest lead he’d ever gotten on anything related to the Blood-Flesh Rose...
Though excitement bubbled within him, it also made him calmer than ever. "Feifei, come immediately to Hua Apartments Building 4 Unit 3 Room 1805... The door is chained shut; bring bolt cutters... There are seven victims here under some form of restriction from the Love Demon system; the suspect has been neutralized after resisting arrest... One victim has a large bump on her head—that’s from the suspect."
"There’s also at least one Demon Forbidden Object in here—a girl bathing in a tub covered by black cloth. Don’t look at her; she’s naked and very shy..."
Carefully editing his message, Wei Wei sent it off to Ye Feifei for cleanup assistance.
He then pulled out his black pistol and ejected its loaded bullet before replacing it with another round.
Green Head Ghost —a specialized high-energy bullet from the Hunter series designed specifically for demons. Its magnetized tip disrupted demonic magnetic fields effectively but wasn’t particularly useful against living Transcendents—it was meant for corrupted monsters devoid of reason.
"I... I’ve told you everything..."
Wang Mo seemed aware of what was coming as he weakly pleaded: "Spare... spare me..."
Wei Wei stared at him coldly before breaking into a smile: "Don’t be ridiculous."
"Your talking doesn’t count as your contribution anyway..."
"..."
Bang!
As he spoke, Wei Wei fired directly into Wang Mo’s chest.
Electric currents coursed through Wang Mo’s body, burning his skin black until none of his former elegance remained—only charred remains devoid of life.
This way, there’d be no chance for Wang Mo to report anything about him later.
More importantly—it meant no one would see Wang Mo’s tortured injuries anymore... especially not Feifei.
Between leaving behind either a tortured victim or a neatly executed corpse, Wei Wei chose what would look better—for Feifei’s sake! It was an act of respect for his goddess!
With renewed excitement coursing through him, Wei Wei rummaged through Wang Mo’s belongings until he found a black robe and white mask as described earlier. Trying them on happily while admiring himself in front of a mirror briefly, he then grabbed a car key wrapped in white tape from Wang Mo’s desk drawer.
Whistling softly, he walked toward the shattered floor-to-ceiling window...
Blood-Flesh Rose...
...
...
At the same time, on the outskirts of Scrap Iron City, in a slum where the radiation from the Spiritual Barrier was at its weakest.
Captain Ouyang Jian, with a cigar in his mouth and an expressionless face, walked into a dimly lit mahjong parlor with low-hanging curtains.
Behind him, Uncle Gun carried a hunting rifle on his back, his eyes scanning their surroundings warily. The two of them walked straight through the smoke-filled hall. Captain Ouyang resisted the urge to sit down and play a couple of hands, heading toward a small door next to an altar for the God of Wealth at the end of the room. He raised his hand and knocked lightly a few times.
The small door opened slightly, revealing a small window. A hand extended from inside, shaking up and down.
"What do you want?"
Captain Ouyang was slightly taken aback and barked angrily: "Asking for money upfront? That wasn’t the rule before."
A woman’s voice called out from inside, “There wasn’t a rule before. But after you skipped out on your tab last time, there is now.”
“What do you mean, skipped out?”
Captain Ouyang shot back. “I was just two days late.”
The voice inside responded, “And today?”
“...”
Captain Ouyang paused, then muttered, “Make that another two days.”
The person inside said nothing but stubbornly kept their hand extended, shaking it insistently without withdrawing.
Captain Ouyang helplessly turned to glance at Uncle Gun.
Uncle Gun sucked in a sharp breath and took a step back. "Captain, you can’t keep dragging me into your mess..."
Captain Ouyang said seriously: "This is for the safety of all of Scrap Iron City."
Uncle Gun took another sharp breath but reluctantly pulled out a roll of cash from his inner pocket. Handing it over, he hesitated for a moment before adding: "I’m going to write this off with Lucky Sister later for reimbursement. Don’t you dare deny it when the time comes."
"Nonsense. When have I ever done such a thing?"
Captain Ouyang took the cash.
Behind him, Uncle Gun muttered quietly: "Two days ago..."
Finally, the small door opened. A woman wearing a short white skirt and draped in fur swayed her hips as she walked out while counting the money. Captain Ouyang admired her figure for a moment before shifting his gaze forward. There, by a table surrounded by colorful lights, sat an old woman covered in black grime. Her body was adorned with decorations made of animal bones and feathers.
"Hello there, elder sister..."
Captain Ouyang quickly moved his gaze away from the plump figure’s waist and hips. With open arms and an enthusiastic smile, he approached the old woman.
The old woman stared at the animal bones on the table before her while pulling out a revolver from under it with her other hand.
Without hesitation, she pointed it directly at Captain Ouyang.
Captain Ouyang didn’t even flinch as he allowed the muzzle to press against his chest and still went ahead to give her a firm hug.
He even tilted his head to plant a loud kiss on her cheek with an audible "smack," laughing as he said: "I missed you so much, my dear elder sister."
The old woman silently withdrew her gun and stuffed it back under the table. With a low sigh, she muttered: "Ouyang..."
"Your damned charm... It’s truly impossible to resist..."
