Scarlet Descent -
Ch. 62 - I Live My Life For Him
As Wei Wei walked away from the church, the terrified cries echoed behind him. His footsteps were light, and he felt a sense of purpose he hadn't felt in a long time. What could be more meaningful than finding direction in life?
Blood-Flesh Rose.
He could instinctively feel that this graffiti wasn't placed there by chance. If someone had the ability to erase Father An's presence from this place, they wouldn't leave such an obvious clue. Perhaps they knew Wei Wei would return and intentionally left it for him to find.
In his heart, Wei Wei had always hoped that things hadn't ended yet. Did this person know his hopes?
The situation was becoming more intriguing, though confusing. Wei Wei felt exceptionally grounded, even with just the rose symbol.
Knowing they were still out there, knowing this mark, how could he not find them?
The question was how to bring them out...
In this moment, his brain was racing, his thoughts clearer than ever. The night was deep, and in a bedroom with a grotesque, mutated wolf head hanging on the wall and a strange gray carpet on the floor, Yuan Guaizi was lying on a large bed covered with bear skin. He had just endured the most agonizing dinner ever, having sent away two voluptuous women and downed a large glass of whiskey. Due to exhaustion and the effects of the alcohol, he was sleeping soundly.
Unaware of what he was dreaming, his expression was slightly ferocious, his teeth grinding as if he were gnawing on something that made him happy.
Everything around him was dark, except for the wolf head's eyes, which emitted a faint, eerie glow.
"Whoosh..."
A cool breeze blew into the room, filling it with a sense of security. Yuan Guaizi frowned, suddenly alert, and opened his eyes to find a face right in front of him. It was a black figure sitting on the edge of his bed, leaning forward to observe him closely.
The figure occupied his entire field of vision.
"Ah..."
Yuan Guaizi 's hair stood on end, and he made a muffled sound in his throat. He flipped over, pressing himself against the cold wall.
"Thank you, Uncle Yuan... really, thank you," the face's owner said, just as Yuan Guaizi was frantically searching for his gun under the pillow.
The person kindly turned on the bedside lamp, and the soft light dispelled the darkness. Yuan Guaizi finally saw Wei Wei's face, filled with gratitude and excitement, and his gentle gaze.
Wei Wei was sitting on his bed, even holding a half-smoked cigarette.
Recognizing Wei Wei, Yuan Guaizi didn't relax at all; instead, his fear intensified, and he almost jumped up.
"You... what are you doing here?" he shouted, his voice trembling with rage. "Are you crazy? How did you get in?"
"Really, thank you so much..." Wei Wei didn't respond to his questions but continued expressing his gratitude: "Thanks to you, I've found my life's purpose..."
Yuan Guaizi was completely bewildered. What was this about? Was this guy insane?
He had sneaked into his room in the middle of the night, sat on his bed, and watched him sleep, all to say this?
The fact that Wei Wei had been sitting there for a while, judging by the state of his cigarette, made Yuan Guaizi 's worldview almost collapse. He felt a chilling sense of being stalked by a demon.
"Sorry, Uncle Yuan. The matter was too important; I couldn't wait until tomorrow morning to come find you..."
Yuan Guaizi 's eyes, filled with terror, watched as Wei Wei apologize politely and stood up. Wei Wei walked to the desk, picked up Yuan Guaizi 's whiskey, examined it, and seemed to appreciate it. He opened the bottle, took a swig, almost choked, and quickly put it back.
Then, he sat down in the chair in front of Yuan Guaizi 's desk and began drawing something on a piece of paper.
It wasn't until then that Yuan Guaizi was certain he wasn't dreaming. He suppressed his lingering fear and slowly pulled out the gun from under his pillow, gripping it tightly.
In his heart, he wanted to shoot this guy who had appeared in his room in the middle of the night to thank him. However, the fear that still lingered made him hesitate, and he couldn't muster the courage to raise the gun.
After a long moment, he rasped out, "What do you want, sneaking in here in the middle of the night?"
"I have something important," Wei Wei replied, picking up the paper and walking over to Yuan Guaizi . He sat down beside him and handed him the paper: "Uncle Yuan, do you recognize this symbol?"
Yuan Guaizi was both shocked and terrified, but he glanced at the paper instinctively. His brow furrowed: the paper depicted a strange rose with an eerie aura.
He took a few deep breaths, suppressing his anger, and said, "You came to me just for this?"
Wei Wei smiled: "Yes, for professional matters, one should seek a professional..."
Yuan Guaizi glared at him, angry: "What do you think I am? Someone who knows everything at a glance?"
Wei Wei laughed and explained, "I just wanted to show it to you urgently."
"Leave this paper with you. Help me investigate it, but please hurry."
"I'm in a rush..."
Yuan Guaizi looked at Wei Wei's radiant but also terrifying smile. He didn't want to agree, but the memory of waking up to find Wei Wei sitting beside him made him shiver. His courage to refuse was gone, and after a long silence, he took the paper, holding it between his fingers.
"Alright, Uncle Yuan. I won't disturb your rest anymore."
Wei Wei smiled, waved goodbye, and said, "If you have any news, please let me know right away."
"Wait," Yuan Guaizi called out as Wei Wei was about to leave. Facing Wei Wei's surprised gaze, he took a deep breath and said, "Leave your phone number."
He looked at Wei Wei intently: "Next time... please don't appear like this again..." As Wei Wei left Yuan Guaizi 's meat factory, he thought to himself, "Uncle Yuan really cares about his privacy..."
It was reasonable that he would have to visit often when asking for favors, but entering his place was always troublesome. He had to catch people, interrogate them, and sometimes even pick locks.
Now, with a phone number, things would be much easier. Wei Wei believed that Yuan Guaizi would be moved by his personal visit and would help him with this matter.
However, with just a symbol, it was uncertain whether he could find the people he was looking for. Although Yuan Guaizi was professional, Wei Wei couldn't rely solely on him.
That night, Wei Wei was too excited to sleep. He drove around, thinking quickly, and stopped under a streetlight. He pulled out his phone and opened an encrypted system he hadn't planned to use soon.
He clicked on a profile with a woman wearing a crown and sent two smiling emoticons.
After a while, there was a response: "Who do you want to kill this time?"
Wei Wei sent a photo of the blood-flesh rose: "I need all the leads on this symbol."
The response came quickly: "Why not go through official Foundation channels?"
Wei Wei: Smiling emoticons.
Crown Profile: I'll try to help, no guarantees.
Wei Wei: Kissing emoticons.
Crown Profile: I'm getting engaged soon.
Wei Wei: Kissing emoticons again.
Crown Profile: You're making me look forward to it. Are you considering crashing the wedding?
Wei Wei: Embarrassed emoticons. Can a normal person do that?
Crown Profile: Your words fill me with anticipation.
Sighing, Wei Wei closed the communication app and thought for a moment before calling Ye Feifei.
The phone rang in an empty villa.
Ye Feifei, wearing a bunny-eared sleep suit and slippers, came downstairs and took the phone from the nanny.
"Little Wei, why are you calling so late? Is there a mission?"
"No, no mission..."
"It's actually a personal matter. I need your help."
Ye Feifei was surprised: "What person?"
"A friend of mine."
Wei Wei sighed: "A very good friend. I returned to Scrap Iron City thinking he wasn't here, but now I have new information. Unfortunately, all I have is this photo as proof that he's still in the city. So, I want to ask if you've seen any similar patterns or clues in Scrap Iron City. This is really important to me."
"Ah?"
"I don't want to bother Captain Ouyang with this yet; it's my personal business. But maybe there are some leads in the database."
Ye Feifei seemed hesitant but said, "If it's worth calling me this late, it must be important, right?"
"Of course."
"I live my life for him..."
