Scarlet Descent -
Ch. 61 - Blood-Flesh Rose
Wei Wei's brain suddenly felt dizzy, and he experienced a disorienting sense of displacement. The memories he had held onto for so long now seemed like shattered glass, full of cracks.
Memories were false, and Father An didn't exist? Wei Wei slowly closed his eyes, feeling his heart pounding. After a while, he opened them again, and his gaze had become much calmer. Many sinister demonic powers often began by eroding a person's inner self, causing self-doubt and leading to downfall. Although the current situation made him feel uneasy, he quickly adjusted his state.
The more uncertain one's heart was, the more likely they were to be exploited by demons. Wei Wei never doubted himself. If one day he discovered that everything in the world was proving he was the problem, it would only mean the world was flawed.
He turned around and headed straight to a room on the second floor of the courtyard. He walked to the leftmost room with a dark purple door, beside which a small, dusty stove was placed. In his memory, this was Father An's bedroom. Wei Wei had once roasted sweet potatoes and peanuts on this stove.
He pressed the door handle, but it was locked. Wei Wei stepped back and kicked the door open.
"Whoosh..."
The stale air inside stirred, and a musty smell wafted out. Wei Wei narrowed his eyes, looking into the room. As expected, there was nothing that matched his memories. It wasn't even a bedroom; it was a storage room. Broken furniture and farm tools were piled up, and the room was filled with junk and garbage. Thick cobwebs hung in the corner of the ceiling.
Every detail seemed to tell him that no one had ever lived here. However, Wei Wei patiently began to search through the musty clutter. Each old item seemed to carry a sense of abandonment, quietly leaning against the walls. Everything looked normal, but Wei Wei continued to search patiently. Demonic powers could do many unbelievable things, even severing logic in the present. However, they couldn't restore everything to normal after disrupting logic.
There must be some trace, no matter what...
Thinking this, Wei Wei's gaze swept through the dark room, and bloodshot eyes began to appear. This made his vision take on a faintly bloody hue, enhancing his ability to see in the dark. His intuition also became more sensitive and intense.
After a while, he suddenly realized something. With a swift motion, he pulled down the piled-up junk in front of him. The loud noise made the nuns downstairs tremble with fear. Wei Wei's eyes scanned through the dust-filled air.
He focused on a spot and slowly approached it, crouching down. On the wall were children's graffiti drawings. There were figures dancing, people praying around a bonfire, and figures being roasted on a fire. However, Wei Wei was drawn to a peculiar symbol among the drawings.
It was a twisted rose, its strokes childish and awkward, resembling a mass of writhing flesh and blood. Wei Wei examined it closely, and memories began to surface in his mind, overlapping with the graffiti.
Blood-Flesh Rose. Wei Wei was unable to describe the shock he felt. His expression was uncontrollable, and he opened his mouth in astonishment. He had seen this pattern before. Three years ago, the leader of the "Red Rose" demon family had it on her wrist. It was the family's emblem.
Demon families often designed unique symbols for themselves, and the Red Rose family was no exception. Wei Wei had studied their information countless times, knowing everything about them, including the vibrant, blood-flesh rose pattern on the leader's wrist.
He had seen this pattern in his dreams every night but never expected to find it in reality. Wei Wei stretched out his hand to touch the mark, but his palm trembled.
He was afraid that this was just an illusion, and touching it would shatter the dream. However, he mustered his courage and touched the symbol.
In that moment, his heart almost leaped out of his chest, and intense joy flooded his heart.
Official reports and Scrap Iron City's news had stated that the Red Rose family members were killed three years ago. If they were just ordinary, spontaneous demon followers, and all were killed by him, how could their symbol appear in the Faceless God Church?
This was too good. For three years, Wei Wei had been unwilling to accept that they were truly dead. He always believed there must be other accomplices or followers.
The possibility of encountering them again, sitting down to have a drink together, had always been on his mind. Occasionally, he realized that his enemies might all be dead, but he quickly shifted his focus away from such thoughts.
How could it be? His enemies couldn't all be dead; they must be waiting for him somewhere like old friends.
And now, he had seen the Red Rose again. The sounds around him seemed to fade away, leaving only the pounding of his heart in his ears. Wei Wei stared deeply at the blood-flesh rose symbol, which seemed to have come alive.
This wasn't a coincidence or a similarity. It was the same symbol, with its twistedness and vivid, eerie feel, impossible to replicate.
The missing Father An, the mysterious demon-worshipping family, and the blood-flesh rose drawn in graffiti on the wall.
In this moment, Wei Wei felt his brain's blood vessels pulsating.
Some things he had considered hopeless, scattered, and insignificant, or even planned to forget, suddenly seemed connected by an invisible thread. They formed a whole, though it wasn't yet clear due to missing pieces.
But it didn't matter.
Wei Wei shook his head vigorously, and his eyes sparkled with surprise.
Blood-Flesh Rose.
Since this symbol had appeared again, it meant that there were still secrets from back then. There were others out there.
It was great, just great.
What exactly was happening, and who was involved?
It seemed that things hadn't ended yet.
For a moment, Wei Wei felt like the blood-flesh rose was a beam of light illuminating his world. "Ha ha, ha ha..."
He couldn't help but laugh, his footsteps light as he jumped down from the floor. He even performed a dance step, like those from a community dance.
Downstairs, the old nuns were trembling. They had discussed calling the police, but the phone was in the office on the second floor, and they dared not go up. The tricycle in the church was broken, so they couldn't escape either.
This person... or rather, this madman was incredibly agile. Who knew if he would chase them down if they tried to flee?
As they watched in terror, Wei Wei jumped down from the second floor and even performed a dance step.
He looked at them with excitement, and they wondered what he had discovered, but they didn't dare ask.
As Wei Wei passed by, he suddenly turned to them. He raised his gun, pointing it at the chubby chef.
With a gentle smile on his face, he said, "Take off your pants."
The chef almost collapsed. He had no idea what Wei Wei wanted to do, but facing the gun and Wei Wei's smile, he didn't dare refuse. Shaking, he reached for his waistband and pulled down his pants.
They were tight, strawberry-patterned briefs. Neither the design nor the size seemed fitting for the chubby chef. "I really haven't forgotten, even something as disgusting as this I remember. How could I forget one good thing?"
Wei Wei looked at the chef's underwear, and his smile seemed to broaden. His finger on the trigger felt a strong urge, but he restrained himself.
Wearing underwear wasn't a crime, and he had worn childish underwear himself. In his memories, the chef had a lecherous gaze toward Qi Qi, but perhaps because Wei Wei and the other kids reacted quickly, nothing happened. Unfortunately, this disgusting chef hadn't been infected by demons either...
After a long moment, he sighed and put away his gun. With a swift kick, he sent the chef crying out in pain, like a slaughtered pig. Wei Wei turned to leave, his footsteps light. Behind him, the old nun's face turned pale, and her body trembled violently:
"I remember him; he's that demon boy..."
"Isn't he supposed to be dead?"
"He... he came back from hell..."
