Rosie's Games
Chapter 562 562: The End 1

When Lucas arrived in the middle of the once snowy north, his face immediately contorted in anguish as he gazed upon the desolation before him.

He had expected to see the barrier, yet in front of him lay something he could only describe as ruins.

The ruins stood as silent witnesses to some terrible event. Trees that had once stood tall and proud were now scattered like broken toys.

The snowy blanket that had covered the ground was tossed around, revealing patches of the earth beneath, as if a giant hand had swirled the snow into messy piles.

His heart raced in his chest, anxiety gripping him tightly. From where he stood, he could see the barrier, which remained untouched, yet the world around it had crumbled.

A heavy dread settled in his stomach.

Without a second thought, he sprinted toward the barrier and found a bloodied figure lying close by.

"Rosalind!" Lucas cried out, his voice strained with panic, as he cradled her lifeless form in his arms. In an instant, he vanished, and when he reappeared, they were back in his room.

He placed Rosalind gently on the bed, his eyes welling up with tears. He checked her body, desperately searching for any sign of life. But the room was silent, devoid of hope.

"No," Lucas whispered, his voice breaking. He had only been away for a few minutes, and now his love lay motionless before him.

"NO!" Lucas hissed through clenched teeth. "You promised to meet me at the barrier!" He closed his eyes and channeled his abilities, trying to revive her. He recalled the teachings of ancient demons from his youth, but none of them seemed to work.

For the first time in his existence, he felt something else… something that could only be described as desperation. "No…" that's not possible. How could Rosalind be dead?

Tears welled up in Lucas's eyes as he cradled Rosalind's lifeless body. What was happening to him? Why did everything feel so heavy?

He could feel his chest tightening, a heavy weight pressing down on him. Desperation gnawed at his heart, and he refused to accept the cruel reality before him.

His trembling hands, desperately sought any sign of life, any spark of hope. But there was nothing. The room echoed with his whispered pleas, "Please, Rosalind, wake up. Please."

Time seemed to stretch, minutes feeling like hours, as he tried every method he knew, each attempt more desperate than the last.

He whispered words of love, memories shared, and promises for the future as if they could will her back. But her stillness remained, mocking his futile efforts.

"No…." Lucas hissed when he noticed that her once vibrant gray hair was now turning… black.

"No!"

With trembling hands, he touched her face, caressing her cold skin, hoping to feel a glimmer of warmth returning. But there was nothing, just the painful absence of life.

Lucas closed his eyes, his voice breaking as he continued to pour all his energy into trying to revive her. But no matter how hard he tried, no matter how much he willed it, Rosalind remained still, as lifeless as before.

Gritting his teeth, he slowly placed her body back on the bed. It was a bitter irony that he, who had once considered using her and even planned to abandon her, now felt this profound sorrow at her absence.

He couldn't help but question the cruelty of fate, his own failings and regrets.

Lucas paced the room, his thoughts a mixture of desperation and anger. It was during this moment that he came to a stark realization: it wasn't just an attraction to Rosalind's mystery that tied him to her. It was something deeper, something he had been blind to until now.

The realization hit him like a lightning bolt.

He loved her, with a love so powerful it consumed him. It wasn't just a fleeting emotion.

He couldn't imagine a world without her by his side, and couldn't bear the thought of losing the woman who had become the very heart of his existence.

"When did it start?" he pondered silently. Only a few hours ago, he had scoffed at the notion of love, and yet now...

He sneered at his own foolishness. "How could it be possible?" He had always prided himself on being unlike his mother, believing he would never let his emotions control him.

Lucas chastised himself, attempting to cling to reason, but the pain in his chest was physical now, a sharp reminder that logic couldn't quell the turmoil within.

How is that possible?

How could something... hurt so much?

Love had sneaked into his heart, and it was more overpowering than any force he had ever known.

It defied his attempts to suppress it, leaving him with nothing but desperation and an unyielding desire to bring her back.

Once again, he stared at Rosalind's body. His eyes narrowed.

He is going to bring her back!

After all, he was not Belisarius.

He was not going to sit down and wait for her to come back in another body!

He was not stupid!

He had a clear understanding of the laws of the universe and he knew there were things he must not break.

Reviving someone who already died was one of those things.

After a while, he raised his hand, and tendrils of black shadows came out of his fingers and approached Rosalind. Then the shadows slowly cleaned the blood on Rosalind's body and even on her clothes. Seeing Rosalind's pale appearance, Lucas frowned.

He waved his hand and the black shadow wrapped around Rosalind's body, protecting her like a cocoon. Lucas narrowed his eyes and then he disappeared from where he was standing.

He reappeared in another dimension, a place where he had frequented in the past. He then looked at the rugged Belisarius, who was sitting by a river.

"Are you here to mock me?" Belisarius uttered, his face pale. He soon looked at Lucas and smirked. "Go on… you can laugh. "

"Rosalind is dead," Lucas said.

This somehow got Belisarius's attention. "You— "

"It had something to do with the barrier. She fought against someone, and somehow… I did not sense her death."

Belisarius only stared at him without saying a word, his face unreadable. "You were crying…"

Lucas did not deny it. Until now, his chest still felt heavy, yet he was not going to let his emotions win. His brain was on top of his heart for a reason.

"You were crying…" Belisarius repeated.

"I am going to revive her."

"The laws of this world would not allow you to do that." Belisarius did not attempt to revive the goddess in the past because that would break the laws of this world.

"They can watch," Lucas said. "And they would not be able to do anything about it."

"And you are telling me this because… " Belisarius asked. Earlier, their fight had ended with him exhausted and wounded while Lucas was unharmed, not even a scratch could be seen on him.

His arrogance had only made Belisarius angry, so angry that he contemplated killing Rosalind to punish his friend.

Bitterness wrapped around Belisarius when he saw Lucas leave without showing any interest in killing him. What was worse than being betrayed by a friend? It was leaving him alive and reminding him of this betrayal.

"Because I would not be able to come to this place again," Lucas said. There were things that he needed to sacrifice to be able to revive Rosalind, and one of them was the ability to set foot in this world… ever again. "Take it as a punishment for my deception," Lucas said

. "Being alive… but not being able to be with the person that you love the most."

"Are you jesting?" Belisarius asked.

"Do you see me laughing?"

"How could you— "

"How could I not?" Lucas sneered.

"Where would you stay?" Belisarius asked. He was well aware of the laws of this world that even the Demon Emperor could not break. The ones who broke them and forcibly stayed in this world had to suffer heavy consequences.

Belisarius was certain that Lucas would rather die than face those consequences.

"There is a place beyond this world. A place in limbo that the demons are using to be able to cross into other worlds. However, that is no longer your concern." Lucas uttered. Then he turned around. "I am leaving. I probably would not see you again."

"You— "

However, before Belisarius could say a word, Lucas had already left, vanishing in front of him as if he had never been there in the first place.

....

A/N: If you read The Lycan's Sin then you would know where Lucas went. hehehehe... It's a place where demons can freely stay. Like a dimension in between other dimensions.
