Chapter 556 556: Confrontation 1

"It was you who spread the rumors about the dark lord and the goddess," Belisarius uttered. This would make the most sense now. "It was you who played the humans, letting them fight the beasts and call you the dark lord.

You wanted to create the villain to glorify the goddess, you wanted to make everyone believe that she… she sacrificed herself for everyone else when you… when you were the one who ended her life."

And Belisarius believed him.

Oh, he believed everything. However, Belisarius felt that he must not be blamed for believing in him. After all, the Goddess was indeed someone who wanted to sacrifice herself for the humans.

She was a woman who sacrificed her own emotions to achieve power that could defeat an archduke. Belisarius had already prepared himself to sacrifice his own life just to help her out.

Naturally, he would never believe that the goddess wanted to sacrifice the humans. To Belisarius, this was nothing but a story that Lucas made up to cover up his sins.

"Why!?" he asked after a moment of silence.

Lucas merely smiled at him. Yet this smile looked like the smile of the devil— a very cunning devil.

Seeing this, Belisarius could no longer stop the anger that he felt. The sword in his hand disappeared as he approached Lucas and held his collar.

"Answer me!" Belisarius hissed. He knew that Rosalind was there, but he did not care. All he wanted were answers.

"I just told you," Lucas said. "She wanted to kill the humans to defeat the Demon Emperor."

"So it was because of the humans?" Belisarius sneered, his eyes blazing with anger. "Do you truly believe that I am a fool? Are you truly going to convince me that you were trying to protect the humans!? The humans that you hated? The humans that betrayed the woman that you love?"

Lucas only pursed his lips. Seeing the two men about to start fighting, Rosalind let out a sigh. She took a step back and said, "I have seen her memories…"

This somehow attracted Belisarius's attention. "She thought that the only way to achieve peace was to kill the Demon Emperor. So she… she wanted to kill the humans inside the barrier and use their life force as fuel for her spells. This was something that she learned in the past… from a demon."

"You— " Belisarius uttered. "Stop spouting— "

"You found her in a village, did you not?" Rosalind said. "You took interest in her because she was the only one who survived the attack. You toured her around the village and introduced her to a new world, a world with dwarves and werewolves and a vampire named… Cillian… Maximilian." Rosalind said.

"You— " Belisarius let Lucas go and was about to approach Rosalind, but Lucas stopped him.

"I saw everything… " Rosalind said. "I saw how much dedication she put into defeating the demons. She used a sword… a sword that you gave her. She used it until it broke into small little pieces. Yet she still kept a part of the sword on a necklace. She… She treated you like an older brother."

"Stay away." Lucas hissed.

"Unbeknownst to everyone, she talked to a demon… I could not recognize the demon, but the demon taught her how to use spells and the concept of sacrifices. She made a deal with the demon and- " she swallowed.

Rosalind continued. "She— "

"Stop lying…" Belisarius said, his tone cold and chilly.

Seeing the anger in the man's eyes, Rosalind simply pursed her lips. Sadly, she cannot convince someone who already made up their minds a long… long time ago.

Still, she found it amusing how this situation resembled that of a situation in a novel. The goddess who wanted to save the world and the group of men who would do everything to protect her. Right now, Lucas and her were the current villains.

The ones who wanted to break the illusion of the good and kind facade that the goddess let the people around her believe.

Wasn't this entertaining?

When he could not approach Rosalind, Belisarius took a step back. He glared at Lucas and then towards Rosalind. "I will be waiting for you outside of this space…" Belisarius uttered before he disappeared.

'What does he mean?" Rosalind asked.

"He just asked me to fight him."

"You and him had been friends for too long…"

"I just confessed to killing the woman that he loved." Lucas stared at the flowers. "This was the only reasonable response." He then turned towards Rosalind. "Listen…"

"I think I can feel the barrier…" Rosalind suddenly said. When Belisarius and Lucas had their confrontation earlier, she felt a subtle feeling inside her.

Now, she was confident that it was not just because of Belisarius's sword. It was… something else. Something thick and potent, something close yet somehow far.

However, a part of her seemed to think that this belonged to her.

"I think… I can feel the power coursing through the barrier," Rosalind said.

Lucas only frowned in response.

"Isn't this a part of the goddess's ability?" Rosalind asked. "If she no longer exists then… why…"

"Stay in this place. I will take care of Belisarius then we will— "

"No…" Rosalind said. "I need to go to that place."

"You cannot go to the north alone."

"I have to," Rosalind said.

Lucas narrowed his eyes.

"I need to," Rosalind said. She truly needed to go, and this was not just because she was being hardheaded or stupid. This was not because of curiosity.

"I believe someone is trying to siphon the abilities inside the barrier, making it weaker. If this continues then the barrier will truly break." Rosalind said.

His gaze turned complicated. "I will accompany you."

"Belisarius will be waiting for you outside of this place. Take care of him. Then… meet me at the barrier." Rosalind said.

In fact, she had no reason to protect the humans. She does not owe them anything. However, a part of her thinks that there is something in the barrier that she needs to protect.

"Take this…" Lucas handed her his sword. "It will protect you."

Rosalind shook her head. Before he could respond, however, Rosalind tiptoed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed her lips.
