Rosie's Games -
Chapter 549 549: Sacrifice 4
"You are going to kill them!" Lucas's voice reverberated inside Rosalind's head as her heart raced in her chest. She looked around, panic surging within her. She couldn't understand why she felt this way.
Again, Lucas yelled and called out for the goddess, but the other woman never opened her eyes again. It was as if she was now buried deep within her own world, unable to hear or feel anything.
Rosalind stared at Lucas's dark expression. Beside him was Belisarius, who appeared as distraught as he was. Regrettably, she couldn't hear their conversation as she remained inside the vortex. She could only see from the perspective of the goddess, who could no longer hear them.
Soon, the surrounding lands began to shake, the skies darkened, and Rosalind felt as though she was being drawn into a dark, deep abyss. She clutched her chest, unable to comprehend why it felt like someone had stabbed her in the same place where the goddess was wounded. Was she feeling the goddess's pain?
'They betrayed me,' a cold voice echoed within Rosalind.
'The humans... betrayed us.'
Rosalind looked around and realized that the goddess was not even looking at her. The vortex around them grew stronger, showing no signs of slowing down. Meanwhile, Lucas seemed to vanish, leaving chaos outside.
Beyond the swirling vortex, the world was in turmoil. Once peaceful villages were now filled with panic and confusion. People fled in all directions, holding onto their possessions and loved ones, fear etched on their faces. The ground beneath them trembled, making it hard to maintain their footing.
In the distance, the black mountains released fiery rivers of lava into the seas, sending plumes of smoke and ash into the sky. The air carried the acrid scent of burning wood, and the crackling of flames filled the air as the forests turned to ash. If Rosalind was right, they are currently in the Howling Mountains.
Then Rosalind witnessed something even stranger. Out of nowhere, another vortex appeared above them.
This time, it resembled the portal she had seen on Aster. It was not large, but something about it made her skin crawl. Rosalind's face paled when she saw two large serpent-like eyes fixed on the goddess.
Rosalind's chest grew heavy, suffocating her with dread as she watched the portal swallow the goddess. Then her vision turned black.
The next thing she knew, the scene had changed.
Before she stood the goddess, on a cliff.
Beside her was Lucas, dressed in all black, his eyes strangely red.
"I curse you," the goddess's voice quivered as she placed a curse upon Lucas. "I cursed you to live an eternal life, but one filled with loneliness and suffering."
The goddess's voice grew stronger as she continued, "You shall never find solace in the company of others, for they will wither and fade as you persist. You will watch generations rise and fall, their lives fleeting like the breath of the wind, while you remain unchanged."
Tears welled in the goddess's eyes, "And when my consciousness returns, when I am reborn, you shall meet a wretched end. Your immortality will be a curse, for you will die in agony, longing for a love that can never be."
The goddess's eyes bore into Lucas with a mixture of sorrow and fury, her voice trembling. "For you betrayed me," she whispered, her words laced with heartbreak. "You, the one I thought would stand by my side, took away everything that I wanted. You shattered my heart, or what was left of it."
"You may live forever in solitude and misery, as your punishment for your greed and betrayal. And when the time comes for me to be reborn, you will know the torment of losing the love that was once yours."
The goddess's once radiant and powerful form began to wither, her strength waning. She stumbled, her steps faltering, and it was Lucas who rushed to catch her, his arms supporting her fragile and fading figure.
This was when Rosalind saw a sword in the goddess's stomach, a strangely familiar sword. It did not take long for her to realize that she was looking at Lucas's sword.
Gently cradling the weakened goddess, Lucas said, "If you believe that preventing you from sacrificing all the humans for the Demon Emperor was a betrayal, then let it be," he declared, his gaze unyielding.
"I do not regret wanting to be with you. I do not regret wanting to be with a woman who is not willing to sacrifice the rest for her own hatred and goals. If given a chance, I would do it again."
"You coward..." the goddess said, her voice soft. "It was a chance for you to become the new Demon Emperor, yet you had to thwart my plans. Was it worth it?" she asked, her voice trembling. Sadly, she did not hear his answer as she closed her eyes.
"It was…" Lucas swallowed. He closed his eyes. When he opened them again, his eyes had returned to their original blue color. He stared at her, his eyes full of gentleness that seemed to shatter Rosalind's heart into small pieces. "It was well worth it," he added.
Rosalind hadn't even noticed when she started crying. She wiped the tears from her cheeks. While she didn't see everything in this vision, the goddess had already sent the rest of her memories to Rosalind.
The humans had betrayed her for the second time. This time, she had blessed those people, yet they still used a cursed dagger to damage her soul. This betrayal was the last straw.
The goddess decided to use the seven individuals as sacrifices to make her powers grow once more. She had learned that the stronger the sacrifices were, the stronger she would become.
This betrayal, however, pushed her to her limits as she lost control of her magic and sought to sacrifice the humans on that continent. Everyone inside that barrier would have died, becoming sacrificial pawns to defeat the Demon Emperor.
Sadly, it was still unclear why she wanted to defeat the Emperor, and Rosalind knew that only Lucas could explain everything.
