Chapter 544 544: Awakening 6
The scene once again changed. They were now back in the village, and the goddess glared at the laughing Lucas, who seemed unscathed by the sword.
"He is a demon," Rosalind said, looking at Belisarius. "Why are you talking to a demon?" she asked. "They must be killed."
"You tried," Belisarius said, his voice gentle. "You saw it too. A sword would not work on him."
"I believe this is the first time someone stabbed me in… over a hundred years," Lucas chimed in. "Indeed, some cubs do not know anything."
"I am not an animal!" the goddess glared at Lucas. Despite the fact that they were all sitting down, the goddess's hand was still on the hilt of her sword, as if she was preparing to attack him at any given time.
"Are you not acting like one?" Lucas countered.
"I will kill you."
"What a wild cub," Lucas looked at Belisarius. "Is she your daughter?"
"What?" Belisarius's eyes widened.
"Now that I think about it, your hair does look alike. Is it possible that you had one? Who was the mother? To be honest, I do not see anyone sleeping with you. Was she blind?"
"Benjamen…." Belisarius growled, his face turning ugly.
"So, a long-lost daughter then? Do you even remember who her mother was?"
"I am not his daughter!" the goddess hissed. "And please stop making fun of me."
"You would not be able to kill me, little girl. However, I— " Lucas held his hand up and smirked. Then, the goddess's body floated in the air. The goddess held her neck as she started struggling. It was as if someone was choking her. "I could do it in seconds," Lucas smiled.
"Do not kill her," Belisarius said. "Let her go."
"Alright," Lucas uttered, and the goddess fell to the floor with a loud thud. "See? Am I not a very amiable person?" he asked the goddess, mischief glinting in his eyes.
"Shall we talk alone?" Belisarius glared at Lucas before he smiled at the goddess.
Lucas snorted, and he suddenly vanished without saying another word.
"Give me a good reason why you would work with a demon," she stated.
"He is not a simple demon."
"He is a powerful one. Was he a Duke? An Archduke? Demons with— with human faces should have the rank of a General. What is he?" she asked as she got up and approached Belisarius.
"He is more than that," Belisarius said. "However, this is no longer important. He never wanted to become one. Just because he was born a demon, does not mean he was like them."
"A demon who did not want to become a demon?" she sneered. "Are you trying to make me laugh?"
"Benjamen is different. He— he does not share their kind's hatred for humans and other races. He is different."
"Different?" the goddess asked in disbelief. "How could he be different? Demons are— demons were vile creatures. They were born that way. How could he be different?"
This time, Belisarius sighed. "He is the kind that would not hesitate to kill his own kind. The other demons feared him and he does not hesitate to kill other demons when he sees them. Because of this… the higher-ranking demons have told their allies to avoid him. They— they tried to at least fight him, but they could not defeat him, so… they simply leave him be."
"A demon killing another demon?" the goddess snorted. "Do you think they are capable of doing that?"
"Your world is too small, little one."
"Do not— "
"The world is vast. You have not seen half of it." Belisarius got up. "I suggest that you do not harm him. He is not someone that you can offend. He is more dangerous than anyone else… in this village."
"So you are scared of him?"
"It is only logical not to fight against someone you cannot defeat. Unless you are a fool who wants your life gone in mere seconds." Belisarius said. "Leave him be. It would not do you any good."
With that, Belisarius left the room, leaving the goddess alone.
Now that she was alone, the goddess sat back down, her face scarlet. She tried to control her breathing as she did her best to calm her anger down. Then she patted her chest and closed her eyes.
Slowly, her reaction turned serene, peaceful. Then she looked out of the window, where she could see the backs of Belisarius and Lucas. They were talking, laughing as if they were long-lost brothers.
This immediately made the goddess frown, but in the end, she did nothing. Instead, she grabbed her sword and started swinging it— a hobby that she had developed when she was thinking about things.
Then Rosalind's gaze turned blurry. This time, she saw Lucas approach the goddess. Then she witnessed the goddess making a few friends. For a while, the visions became almost monotonous. The goddess and her friends would fight demons, come back to the village to sleep, and once again leave to fight.
There were occasions when Lucas would come with them, but the goddess ignored him and treated him as if he did not exist. That was until… Lucas saved her.
The mission this time was supposed to be simple.
They were there to rescue a priest— a human priest. There were only a few of them as they did not want to attract attention. The plan was to go into the caves, take the humans, and leave. They were not supposed to fight or attract attention to themselves.
But for some reason, something went wrong.
The group realized that it was actually a trap. The one they needed to rescue had long died at the hands of the demons. And worse… a higher-ranking demon Duke appeared.
How could humans who did not have any special abilities defeat a Demon Duke?
However, just as the Demon Duke was about to kill the goddess, Lucas arrived. Lucas waved his hand, and the head of the Demon Duke was swiftly decapitated.
"It looks like you have seen a ghost…" Lucas smirked when he saw her appearance. "The least you can do is thank me… no?" he asked as he held his hand out towards her.
This time, the goddess accepted his hand.
