Rosie's Games
Chapter 540 540: Awakening 2

ASTER EMPIRE

Chaos erupted almost immediately upon hearing Belisarius's words. "You—" Lachlan glared at Ena, who commenced laughing. He knew the ambition and danger that the Thun family harbored. However, he never anticipated Ena's blatant betrayal of humanity for power, especially in front of everyone. "You vile creature!" he screamed before launching a barrage of fireballs at Ena.

Behind him, Josephine sprang into action, assisting Lachlan in confronting Ena Thun. To their surprise, their attacks were easily avoided by Ena.

"Did you not feel it?" Ena taunted. "I am stronger than all of you!" A bolt of lightning crackled from her body and shot straight at Lachlan.

Lachlan's instincts kicked in as he narrowly dodged the electrifying bolt. He could feel the searing heat of the flames coursing through his veins. He wouldn't let Ena's betrayal go unanswered.

Josephine was no different. Though not as experienced as Lachlan, she had fought a few beasts in the past. She immediately extended her hands into the shadows that clung to the room's edges. Her sorcery was a mysterious force that allowed her to manipulate darkness. As Ena continued her relentless attack, Josephine used her powers to send shadowy tendrils snaking toward the traitorous thunder-wielder.

Ena struggled for a moment as the shadows twisted and coiled around her, restricting her movements. It was a temporary advantage, but Lachlan seized the opportunity.

A large fireball appeared in Lachlan's hands. However, when the fireball reached Ena, she vanished into thin air.

"She—" Lachlan looked around in confusion. He could still hear Ena's laughter, but he could no longer see her anywhere.

"The portal is expanding; look!" Douglas Quarris exclaimed. He used his Earth's blessing to prevent the room from collapsing onto the few humans inside, so he couldn't help Lachlan earlier. Now that the humans were out of harm's way, Douglas finally had time to speak.

His eyes remained fixed on the growing portal in the south of Aster. From where they stood, the portal appeared small, no larger than a fist. But considering the distance, they all realized its true, massive size.

"It's going to engulf Aster and Korusta!" Lachlan's face contorted with fear. He could feel the ominous aura emanating from the portal, enough to suffocate him. He could only imagine how dangerous it would be for ordinary people.

"We need to go," Belisarius said, addressing the others. "If you want to fight, I can take you to that place. If you fear the demons, then leave now."

"I will fight," Lachlan declared.

"I'll stand with Lachlan," Josephine added.

"Me too!"

"I as well!" Douglas and another member of the Hydran family chimed in.

"Please take us to that place. We will help the wounded," Martin Lux said. Dorothy agreed, but her purpose was different. She intended to observe Rosalind, certain that this woman was somehow involved with the demons. Dorothy could sense something about Rosalind, something different. She carried the stench of a demon's presence, even though she appeared human.

"Very well..." Belisarius said. He waved his hand, and everyone's vision blurred as they were transported to their next destination.

When they arrived, what they saw was frightening.

Beneath the colossal portal, pure chaos reigned. What were once calm streets had transformed into a nightmare of disarray.

People ran in every direction, their faces twisted with fear, driven by sheer panic. Fierce winds tore through the area, hurling debris into the air, and turning the surroundings into a whirlwind of destruction.

Abandoned possessions, scraps of paper, and even small structures were tossed about in the tempest.

"The demons will descend soon..." Belisarius looked up, his expression serious.

"But it took hours before the demons descended in the previous portal," Douglas said. Right now, everyone was staring at the abyss that formed in the sky.

"This is larger; it would be easier for the demons to pass through," Belisarius responded. "Those who want to fight shall surround the portal, making sure that not one demon passes to attack the civilians. Those who can heal shall go and tend to the wounded."

This time, no one dared to ask questions or voice complaints. Everyone, including Belisarius, felt the suffocating emotion weighing on their chests.

"Why would they do this?" Jean Hydran frowned, her gaze deeply troubled. "Ena said that if she worked with her, then—"

"Do you truly trust the demons?" Lachlan hissed. "Have you forgotten what they did to the humans?"

"But those events occurred years ago," Jean reasoned. "Thousands of years ago. Perhaps..."

"Fool!" Lachlan said, grabbing Jean's collar. "Do you not understand? The demons who wanted to come here sought access to this place because they wanted to rule it! They wanted to enslave humanity. Ena is simply too foolish and blinded by power to see that."

"Lachlan, calm down..." Douglas said as he grabbed his friend's hand. "This is not the time to argue."

Lachlan only snorted in response. "Cowards have no place here," he said. "If you wish to work with Ena, then go ahead. No one will stop you."

"I did not say that. I— I'm just wondering if we can really fight something this—"

"We are going to seal the portal," Belisarius said, looking at Josephine. "I know you have the relic with you. Use it. We have a way to close it." He looked at Rosalind, who also nodded in agreement.

"Does this mean you have the same relic?" Martin asked. "Did the Duke of Wugari use the relics to close the portals?"

"Is this really the time for that?" Lachlan retorted. "The most important thing is to close the portal! Who cares what method we use to close it?"

Just as he said this, a loud thunderclap boomed, interrupting the already chaotic atmosphere.

"They are here!" Belisarius said. "Move!"

Hearing this, the others scattered. Lachlan and Douglas moved in opposite directions, both considered among the strongest fighters in the group, so they had no issues working alone. Meanwhile, Josephine had to stand next to Rosalind because of the relic she possessed.

"I will protect you," Josephine said.

Rosalind nodded. However, just as they were about to move, a hand grabbed her arm.

"Miss Lin..."

Rosalind looked at Mathies, who seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Why are you here?" she asked. "It's dangerous. You must—"

"I need to tell you something," Mathies said. "Something important."

"Can't you see? We are in the middle of—"

"It's urgent. Please... I beg of you."

"I— " Rosalind looked at Belisarius, who was floating in the sky as thunder rumbled in the distance. Belisarius was already confronting a few larger demons with his sword. As usual, a light aura surrounded his body.

"All right...

" Rosalind looked at Josephine. "Please give me a minute."

She walked a few feet away with Mathies.

"What is it?" Rosalind frowned. Right now, Mathies looked pale and distraught. "Did something happen?" She thought that the black market was located in a different plane, so the portal should not affect it. She thought they would be safe from this onslaught.

"I apologize, Miss Lin..." Mathies frowned.

"Apologize? Did something happen to Mr. Pratt and Alma?" Her expression worsened.

"You need to read this first..." Mathies said as he handed a piece of paper to Rosalind. She accepted it and opened it to read its contents. Then...

**THWACK**

Rosalind's eyes widened when she felt something strike her chest. She lowered her head and stared at the black knife impaling her. Then she lifted her gaze and stared at Mathies.

"They— they are going to destroy Mr. Pratt and the others. Please... I beg of you to forgive me."

Rosalind could not believe what had just happened. However, before she could process everything, her body started trembling.
