Rosie's Games -
Chapter 519 519: Fear of Death
For a few seconds, Rosalind was silent. Save them? She could barely save herself. She wasn't foolish enough to sacrifice her life to save someone else's.
"You're not planning to..." Belisarius began when he saw her reaction.
"Do you see me as a savior?" Rosalind asked. "I can barely control my abilities. I don't think I would be useful in fighting demons."
"You—" Belisarius looked at Lucas. "What have you done?"
Lucas only shrugged in response.
"The ones responsible for creating this portal should be Ena Thun," Rosalind stated. "Am I right?"
"Yes."
"Then, it can be said that the ones on Aster knew something about it." After all, Ena Thun was her grandfather's ally. However, her grandfather, that old man Lux, had been missing for some time. She looked at Lucas. "Do you think my dear grandfather is still alive?"
"He is..." Lucas said. "I can feel his essence in the Lux estate."
Rosalind nodded. "Shall we go and save that old man then?" She smiled.

Meanwhile, contrary to the situation outside, Dorothy's room remained calm. The sound of water streaming and the bamboo hitting the stone in her man-made lake echoed throughout the hallway of her new room. Since returning, Dorothy insisted on staying in this courtyard, far from chaos. She desired peace and silence. Naturally, her mother agreed and immediately arranged the courtyard for her.
Because Dorothy sought silence, she reduced the number of her servants and guards. Currently, she only had two maids in the courtyard, both of them mute, their tongues having been cut off when they became slaves. Dorothy specifically chose the two because she did not want anyone to bother her.
Dorothy turned the page of the book she was reading before taking a grape and slowly eating it. From where she was sitting, she could clearly see the portal that had caused panic throughout the capital. However, she never bothered to look at it.
"Leave," Dorothy said. The maids by her side stopped peeling the grapes and complied. Seeing them gone, Dorothy got up and looked around. Then she turned toward her large oval mirror placed near her bed.
"Come," she called out.
Almost immediately, black smoke appeared from the mirror and formed into a hooded figure. "Tell me why they activated the portal so early," she coldly stated.
"It seems that something happened in the north. The body prepared for the Lord has been obliterated."
Dorothy's face turned ugly. "How is that possible?"
"The one in charge made a mistake and fought against someone stronger than him."
"Was it the Dark Lord?" she asked.
"It was not. We found traces of the fight. It seems that the one who fought against the demon general Maledrax was not as powerful as the Dark Lord."
So it was not Lucas Rothley? Dorothy frowned. "What about the others?"
"Everyone has been instructed to stay put. When the time comes, they can reveal their abilities and close the portals."
Dorothy's face turned uglier. Sadly, she had no one to complain to. After all, she did not even recognize the other demons who were able to possess a human body. This matter was of utmost importance, and many of them did not regain their memories about this matter the moment they arrived.
"So, you are telling me to close the portal when the time comes, so the people will once again think I am some sort of a goddess?"
"It is only reasonable," the man uttered. "After all, one cannot be too greedy. The one from the north already knew that you were eyeing the dark lord."
Dorothy sneered. Who would not want to become the wife of the dark lord? However, her movements had been monitored too closely, and she could not simply use her abilities in the north, or she would raise the suspicion of that dark lord and he and his scions would come and kill her.
"Without a body suitable for our Lord, we were forced to go through with the plan. We needed to instill chaos and fear in everyone. Panic is needed to avoid the eyes of the people who could exterminate us."
Dorothy sneered inwardly. Creating chaos to cause panic was something they were very good at.
After all, humans have a natural fear of death, so this incident would definitely cause a storm in Aster.
"Soon, the portals in other empires would be opened, and the other empires would ask for your help. Do not refuse. You must let the humans think that you are the reincarnation of the goddess."
"You want me to attract all the attention and act as bait?" Dorothy asked.
"Yes," the man answered without batting an eyelid. "This is all for the lord. Once the lord is here, everything will be fine."
"Without a body, he would not be able to come." That demon is an Archduke. How could a normal human body contain such power? It would explode and burn even before the Archduke could finish the ritual.
"We are currently looking for another body. However, this is no longer your concern. You are not going to reveal yourself to the others. Do you understand?"
"I do," Dorothy nodded.
The man nodded in response before turning once again into black smoke and going inside the mirror.
Seeing him gone, Dorothy snorted. She stared at her current appearance in the mirror. Was it not comical? Just a couple of days ago, she was prancing and complaining about everything. All of her plans had been thwarted by some unknown force, and she felt helpless and mildly frustrated with her current situation.
After all, her father forbade her to go out of the house and focus on studying and other matters that a woman should do.
Her father had been very busy because of the new Emperor, and they barely had time to talk. As such, she was left with her mother who only talked about random things that did not really interest her. How could she live a life like this?
