Chapter 510 510: The Abandoned Temple 2

Rosalind stood hesitantly at the threshold of the forsaken temple, memories of a past visit flooding her mind. The last time she came here, she could barely endure the demonic energy around. The sadness was so powerful it was almost overwhelmingly suffocating. She remembered touching a crown and absorbing it, accidentally absorbing the memories of the one who owned it in the past.

Yet today was different.

She bit her lower lip as she looked around. The air still felt heavy, charged with a demonic energy that sent shivers down her spine. Crumbling walls seemed to leer menacingly as if relishing in the fear they instilled. The muted light from the pearls barely penetrated the darkness, casting eerie shadows across the skeletal remains scattered about.

The malevolence that lurked behind made her frown.

This time, she could actually feel more than the anguish and somehow hear the cries of the souls trapped within these walls.

Suddenly, she felt Lucas's hand on her waist. She immediately turned towards him and smiled.

Lucas stood by her side, his presence seemed to assure her that everything would be fine. "Shall we start?" he asked. Again, he seemed to be really happy, but she did not ask him anything. Instead, she chose to focus on the things around her. Right now, she needed as much demonic energy as she could to suppress the voice inside her head.

She could not afford to let it come out at a crucial moment again.

The two of them walked deeper into the temple. This was the first time that Rosalind had actually toured the place, as last time, she was not able to because of that crown. This time, she could feel the demonic energy, yet it was not as heavy as it was in the past. "There is something about this place..." Rosalind uttered.

"Something?"

This time, Rosalind frowned and hastily walked deeper into the temple. Then she stopped. "That—" She stared at the black liquid that had started to seep through the walls of the temple. "Why is it here?"

"That is not from this continent. The thick demonic energy in this place must have affected this place," Lucas calmly explained.

"You mentioned that there are other places like this in the continent, right?"

"Yes. Each Empire has one."

"Then...." Rosalind felt like the world just narrowed down on her. Something about this felt incredibly disturbing and frightening. Assuming that the other temple has the same demonic energy then.... would it be possible that they would also have the same black liquid?

"They may have the same black demonic liquid," Lucas uttered. "It would not surprise me if they do. After all, the things of the past have been very sinister, to say the least. The Seven Families have so many secrets that they wanted to keep, that they wanted to bury." Lucas shrugged.

He then touched the black liquid, and Rosalind watched in awe as the liquid seemed to react to his touch, moving towards his hand, covering it like black ink until his whole hand was full of black ink.

Rosalind took a step back. "Fascinating, isn't it?" he asked, smiling at her.

"Fascinating?" Her gaze turned complicated. Lucas had told her that he was once a demon, so it was not a surprise that he was able to touch the black liquid.

"Touch it," Lucas said.

"But—"

"It won't harm you."

Rosalind locked onto his reassuring gaze. She paused for a moment before a nod crept in, and she gradually bent to contact the liquid on the ground. To her surprise, the liquid responded to her touch. It didn't scald as she had anticipated. In fact, quite the opposite. It was cool and comforting, a gentle dance upon her skin, imbuing a soothing sensation.

Her hand ascended slowly, and she peered at it, questioning. "Use it," Lucas instructed.

"Use it?" How?

"Try projecting it somewhere."

"I can do that?"

"You've absorbed the energy before; you can control the liquid as you wish."

Rosalind nodded and followed his direction. Then she watched as the liquid shot out from her hand and hit a skull nearby. She let out a surprised gasp. "Belisarius did not tell me that I can do this...." Rosalind said. If she could use the liquid, then why would Belisarius tell her to get rid of it? If she could use it as a weapon...

"Because only Demons can use the liquid," Lucas shrugged. He too shot the liquid somewhere. Then he touched the liquid on the floor, and once again, the liquid moved to his hand. This time, it did not stop there. It moved up and up until it completely covered his whole arm. Then, without saying another word, he lifted his hand and the liquid responded.

It slowly formed into what looked like a sword.

"Demons and the people who could absorb demonic energy can control it. Belisarius and the others cannot do this..." The liquid had now completely transformed into a sharp, gleaming sword. He then handed it to Rosalind.

She accepted the sword and held it in her hands. "It could kill a demon," Lucas uttered. "The weapons created by this liquid are very dangerous to demons. It was both their strength and their weakness. It could harm them and prevent them from healing. However, only demons can create and wield this weapon."

"Even sorcerers cannot wield it?" she asked.

"Not even them could wield it without suffering from it," Lucas said.

"If that is the case then...." Rosalind frowned. "It would be useless to humans."

"Humans, yes. But there are other races on that continent. Vampires, Werewolves, Lycans, as well as all shapeshifters, can use the weapon."

Rosalind said nothing. She thought about the world where other races exist and could not help but think of how hard it could be for weak humans to survive. "How strong are the sorcerers in that place?" Rosalind asked.

"Strong?" Lucas frowned. "They are not strong... after all, they were still humans. It would be hard for them to go hand in hand against powerful demons."

Then does that mean humans are powerless against demons? For some reason, something inside her once again felt heavy. She could feel desperation starting to seep through her soul.

However, she was quick to suppress it. "Do you think..." An idea suddenly appeared in her head. "Do you think it would be possible to use the liquid to fortify the barrier?" Rosalind suddenly asked.

If they could use something that could hurt the demons to fortify the barrier then... wouldn't that be to their advantage?
