Rosie's Games -
Chapter 507 507: The World
The impact of the lightning bolt sent Belisarius flying backward, crashing into the ground with a thud. His body convulsed from the electric shock, and for a moment, his vision blurred. He struggled to regain his composure and push himself up, his muscles protesting the sudden jolt.
Maledrax, seizing this opportunity, continued his hasty retreat. The distraction caused by the lightning bolt had bought him some valuable seconds. He sprinted through the rubble-strewn battlefield, his thoughts now focused on finding a safe place to regroup and plan his next move.
Meanwhile, Belisarius fought to steady himself, the taste of burnt flesh lingering in his mouth. He scanned the chaotic battlefield, his eyes narrowing as he searched for the source of the lightning attack. Through the smoke and debris, he spotted a figure in dark robes.
"A person from the Thun Family, do you understand what you have done?" Belisarius uttered. The figure naturally did not answer. Instead, the figure used teleportation to leave the place before Belisarius could do anything!
"Come out!" Belisarius uttered. Almost immediately, two men ran towards him. These are none other than Elias and Valentin. The two still looked disheveled and pitiful.
"What is that thing?" Elias asked. They have already met Belisarius once so they already know that they were working with Rosalind.
"We are going home…." Belisarius said. Then he grabbed the two men before him and the two vanished into thin air.
Belisarius, Elias, and Valentin materialized in Duke Lucas's lavishly furnished study. The room was adorned with exquisite paintings, ancient tomes, and elegant furniture that spoke of wealth and influence. Duke Lucas himself sat behind a large oak desk, looking up in surprise as the trio appeared.
"Belisarius," Duke Lucas sounded unhappy. "I did not expect you so soon."
"It was a Demon General and he is working with someone from the Thun Family."
"Hmmm…" Lucas eyed Elias and Valentin who looked tense in front of him. "Lower your voice, my wife is resting…"
"Resting?" Belisarius frowned. The room had thick walls. What was Lucas talking about? "How is she?"
"Good," Lucas uttered. "You on the other hand did not look that good. I never thought that you would one day struggle to defeat a mere General."
Belisarius pursed his lips. He then instructed both Elias and Valentin to leave and clean up after themselves. After all, they were still wounded, their appearance pitiful.
"That General must be trying to summon someone stronger…. That is the only reason why they would suddenly do this. We need to find out where they are."
"You need to find out where they are," Lucas corrected.
"Must you do this now?" Belisarius asked.
"You already know the answer to that question."
"Her body is getting weaker while her abilities are getting stronger, you cannot protect her any longer."
"I will protect her for as long as I can. What happened in the past, will never happened again. She will not sacrifice herself for the humans, nor was she going to try to destroy herself just for them to live. She is going to stay alive and live a life with me." Lucas voice contain the finality that Belisarius hated. "And I would dare fight the world just to keep that from happening again."
"You are trying to shelter her too much! She needed to learn."
"She is learning." Lucas face contorted.
"Not like this, Lucas, and both of us know that." Belisarius uttered.
"She is learning next to me. Is there anything better than that?"
"She is learning while you are protecting her."
"I stayed alive all these years to protect her." Lucas sneered, his fist clenched despite his calm tone. "She was my reason for living. You cannot take that away from me."
"You are insane."
"And you are delusional to think that the humans would care that you helped them again."
"I am simply trying to stop the demons from summoning another one!" Belisarius argued. "Only her abilities can stop that. She had been with you, and you are preventing her abilities from getting stronger!"
"She needs guidance, discipline," Belisarius implored. "If we do not act now, the consequences could be catastrophic."
Lucas only snorted in response. He leaned back against his chair, his expression unreadable.
"You can do whatever you want. I am not going to stop you," Lucas uttered. "But do not touch my bottom line. And that is Rosalind."
"She is not yours. She has never been." Belisarius uttered, his voice cold.
Suddenly, Lucas vanished, and Belisarius felt his body slammed against the wall. A loud thud sound echoed inside the study as Lucas held Belisarius's collar and lifted him up against the wall.
"Say that again…." Lucas uttered.
"She was never yours. Did she not curse you because of your selfishness? You wanted her. You wanted more, yet she wanted to save the humans. You got greedy, Lucas. Accept it.
You were greedy then, and she did not like that. What do you think would happen if her memories would start appearing? She would know. She would recall what you did back then, and she would hate you. She would leave— "
**BANG**
The wall next to Belisarius collapsed.
"You were always the righteous one, were you not?" Lucas said in a mocking tone. "The hero. The one who wanted to save the world."
"It is my duty. It is our duty to save the continent. Have you forgotten that?" Belisarius answered, unflinching.
"I have watched civilizations rise and fall, seen empires crumble to dust. I cannot bear to watch her suffer the same fate." Lucas uttered.
"You are going to sacrifice everyone just to save her?" Belisarius suddenly said.
"I would scorch this world and watch it burn just to make sure she is safe," Lucas whispered, his tone sinister. "And I would do it over and over and over again."
"Benjamen…."
Lucas narrowed at him. Then he suddenly let him go and took a few steps back, away from Belisarius. "The thing that you are looking for was in the North. If the General wanted to summon an even stronger one, it would be easier to use a stronger body as a vessel. Preferably, someone who received the blessing. Sense the blessing and you can locate them."
Lucas then turned around and calmly walked back to his chair, sitting as if he did not just break a portion of the wall.
"Do not... touch her," Lucas uttered without looking at Belisarius.
