Chapter 85: The rescue team
"I imagine you are the assassin Lady Amanda mentioned," Wein bowed respectfully upon seeing Sherazade.
Obviously, Amanda had done everything possible to ensure that those sent on the mission to rescue the students were her allies. That way, if necessary, she could ask them to finish the job and erase any evidence.
And, to the blonde’s surprise, she would be forced to use this last resort, as the students had somehow not only survived the rift but also the assassins she had sent after them.
So, as the leader of the rescue expedition, she assigned Professor Wein. The man was not a close ally of hers, but she had obtained evidence of the crimes he committed during the Class S exam.
Not only did she have proof that he had teleported Davi to another location, but she had also gathered witnesses of him speaking with a suspicious man, as well as evidence of multiple small interferences.
On top of all that, the man still owed the woman a large sum of money. Therefore, he had no choice but to obey. That was why he became the leader of the rescue team and was responsible for eliminating the students.
Honestly, the man hated the idea of having to do this kind of dirty work. He found it a shame to eliminate noble-blooded students like Sophia, but he had no options. Afterall, Wein was not the type to sacrifice himself for his morals.
Behind him stood four figures, their bodies covered in heavy armor. They were combat specialists sent by Amanda.
"I will tell you everything I know..." Sherazade quickly replied.
She was not at all happy to report her defeat, but she also would not let her pride cloud her judgment. That’s why she honestly shared everything she knew.
In particular, she couldn’t help but highlight how impressive Davi was. However, upon hearing that, Wein laughed arrogantly. He had already defeated the boy easily once and was confident he could do it again.
After all, he had perfected the beast he had shown him that day. The professor still did not have full control over it, but he was confident in the power of his creation.
"Don’t worry, I can handle him," the man said confidently. "Besides that useless boy, is there anything else I should be concerned about?"
Sherazade sighed at his words, but now was not the time to argue. So she just explained:
"No, there’s someone even more troublesome than that boy in the group of students. You should already know after all, she is our target. Sophia Belfort is a monster." It was truly rare for that woman to acknowledge someone’s talent like that.
"I know she’s talented, but is she really that special?" Wein asked, concerned, recalling rumors that Sophia was not worthy of the Belfort heir position due to her supposed lack of ability.
"If she weren’t a monster, why do you think our employer is putting so much effort into killing her?" Sherazade remarked. "Besides, those rumors are probably just a futile attempt to demoralize her."
This time, even one of the four combat specialists, who had been silent, joined the conversation. He was a member of the Belfort family, albeit from a lesser branch, so he knew very well that Sophia was a rare prodigy.
Considering all this, it was obvious they needed a special plan to deal with her.
So they decided to assign two of the combat specialists solely to handle her and ensure she was separated from the rest of the group. That said, they still needed a way to deal with the other students.
It wouldn’t be an easy operation, but if they managed to eliminate Davi and Sophia quickly, the rest would be left without any clear leader, making it easier to wipe them out.
After a long discussion, the group finally determined their plan of action. Soon, they were ready to strike.

Just before the students’ usual waking time, an explosion forced them to rush out of bed. Chaos quickly erupted as beasts began attacking them.
These were monsters Wein had artificially created, but the students had no way of recognizing that immediately. Instead, they assumed it was just a typical monster attack, something expected within the depths of the dungeon.
Up until that point, things inside the temple had been surprisingly calm, but it wasn’t unthinkable for monsters to invade the place.
Believing the situation was under control, the students quickly organized themselves to face the threat, unaware of the real danger they were in.
Meanwhile, Sherazade moved like a shadow, silent and unnoticed. With her mastery of illusions, she seamlessly blended into the chaos of battle, slipping past the students’ defenses with ease. Step by step, she closed in on her target: Sophia. And now, she stood just a breath away, her prey within arm’s reach.
Sherazade intended to kill the girl with a single strike before she could even notice her presence. No matter how powerful the blonde was, she was a support-type warrior and, in theory, wouldn’t be able to properly defend against such an attack.
Surprisingly, things were going well. The woman slipped past nearly all her enemies and prepared to swing her sword toward the blonde.
However, a certain boy, annoying as ever, appeared to ruin her plans.
"That trick won’t work on me anymore," Davi said confidently, lunging to attack what, to everyone else, appeared to be empty air.
For a moment, everyone thought he had lost his mind, until Sherazade’s blood splattered across the ground, struck by a <Moon Slash>.
"Damn it," Sherazade muttered, then kicked the boy away. "I suppose we’ll have to go with Plan B."
She couldn’t help but feel irritated, realizing that once again, Davi had foiled her plans. Yet, at the same time, she couldn’t suppress a smirk of reluctant admiration.
"You really are persistent," Sherazade said, pointing her sword at the boy before her and revealing herself to everyone. "How did you know I was still alive?"
"I didn’t," Davi admitted. "But I’m not the type to let my guard down."
Not wanting to give her time to pull any tricks, the boy aggressively charged at her. But no matter how fast he was, he wouldn’t be able to stop what came next.
"Sorry, but you lost the moment you let me in here," Sherazade said as a seal briefly placed on her left hand began to glow.
She lunged forward and, disregarding the boy’s attack, touched his chest. The instant she did, a teleportation spell activated.
It was a highly specific spell, one that swapped the positions of two objects. And given the broad definition of an "object," the boy was instantly sent to a distant part of the dungeon.
At the same time, five imposing figures appeared in the middle of the students’ camp, ready to begin their operation.
It was a shame they hadn’t managed to eliminate Sophia right away as originally planned, but it wasn’t a problem. Sherazade hadn’t expected Davi to interfere, but she also hadn’t held out much hope that a single strike would be enough to kill that blonde girl. After all, Sophia always seemed to have some trick up her sleeve.
That’s why they had prepared multiple plans and countermeasures to ensure everything went smoothly. Besides, now that she had gotten rid of the boy, it was unlikely anyone would detect her presence.
"I suppose we should start by causing chaos," Wein said as he surveyed the surroundings. Then, raising his arms, he expended nearly all his mana in an instant.
Countless portals opened, and from them emerged the man’s many creations, spreading chaos and destruction at the heart of the students’ camp.

Meanwhile, Davi ended up being teleported to a narrow cave. Since Wein did not have full control over that beast, he decided to left it in a location far from where all the action would take place.
That way, he could simply send the boy there and let him be destroyed by the monster. Additionally, the cave had a few other enemies and creatures that would serve as food for his so-called perfect creation.
Naturally, the professor was confident that Davi would be easily killed by the beast. He would have preferred to send Sophia instead, but Sherazade insisted that getting rid of Davi first was the better option.
She saw him as the greatest threat among all the students, as his absurd versatility ensured that, no matter the situation, he would always find a way to cause trouble.
Because of this, the boy was once again forced to face that monster head-on. The moment he heard its powerful roar, he felt fear take hold of his body once more.
Moreover, there was something about its magical power and stance that eerily reminded him of his father.
Even so, all he could do was take a deep breath and step into the fight before him.
"This time, the outcome won’t be the same," Davi swore to himself.
