Rise of the Harem King
Chapter 36: Promise of revenge

Chapter 36: Promise of revenge

After the somewhat intense encounter, Luna took Davi to the academy’s infirmary, as he needed to recover from his injuries.

A nurse there used a healing ability that helped the boy recover almost completely. However, it was still recommended to bandage the wounds and rest for a while.

Davi didn’t like the idea of staying in a hospital bed, but he was forced by Luna to accept the recommendation.

"Now that you’re calmer, can you tell me what happened?" Luna asked with concern in her voice.

Davi paused for a moment, thinking about where to start. In the end, figuring his girlfriend would want to know everything, he quickly summarized the first phase:

"The first test was in pairs, and I ended up with a stressed and cute girl," he smiled slightly as he remembered Ember. Still, he glanced at Luna from the corner of his eye, worried about how she’d react.

Once again, she showed no signs of jealousy and even seemed curious about the girl. Davi promised he would introduce them sometime, but quickly moved on with the story, mentioning that after a few conflicts, they got closer, and she joined the harem.

He also mentioned Ana and how he confirmed with her that it was possible to add someone to the harem without revealing their abilities. Anyway, he probably didn’t intend to keep her around.

Finally, the story reached the second test. He briefly explained he had a problem with the Belforts, which made Luna shiver. She was even more surprised to hear that his crazy attack plan had been a success.

Or it should have been a success, until that professor showed up to ruin it.

Thinking more calmly now that everything had passed, Davi couldn’t forget the warning Amélia gave him to be careful. At the same time, his instincts told him it had something to do with his father. That strike, that monster...

Hearing this, Luna became lost in thought for a moment. Why would the principal’s younger brother do that? Even though Davi had pissed off some powerful people, they probably wouldn’t act so recklessly.

Furthermore, that guy was known for being greedy and not very well-liked by most people. He didn’t seem like the type of person the council would entrust with something like that.

Wein was strange, undoubtedly skilled at creating monsters, but he had little talent as an explorer. That’s why they despised him.

"I’ve heard he hates people without talent," Luna murmured to herself as she searched for an answer.

Not to mention, how could he give a beast abilities similar to a human? Creating monsters wasn’t her specialty, but as far as she knew, it would be extremely difficult. Even if it were possible, at least a sample of blood from the ability holder would be needed.

"Do you think my father could have helped him eliminate me from the exam?" Davi finally asked his friend.

Luna fell silent for a moment, but the truth was that her blood was boiling with anger. How could a father do this to his own son? Still, the only answer she could give was:

"I don’t know, but it seems possible."

"I see," the boy’s heart raced, and his chest tightened, as fear tried to paralyze him again.

However, this time, that shadow was pushed away by the gentle touch of the girl beside him. Once again, Luna reminded the boy that she was by his side, and would always be.

His father was terrifying and seemed an impossible mountain to overcome, but he would find a way. He had to find a way.

"If that guy intends to stand in my way, fine," the boy’s eyes filled with a powerful killing intent. "But I’ll face anything in my path. I don’t want to live miserably anymore."

He had a new class, he had power, and a path ahead. Even though it was daunting, Davi was confident in carving it out.

However, before anything else, he needed to find a way to join Enki. Luna said he didn’t need to worry, and that they would manage to keep him afloat until mid-year, but he needed to enter as soon as possible.

As if in response to his determination, a certain object began to glow in his pocket. It was the small coin he had received.

When he picked up the object, he was surprised as a projection of Amélia appeared before him. The message she had to deliver was quite simple:

"I will give you a second chance," said the holographic projection.

She then directed him to check the events page on Enki’s website. There, he saw that a tournament was being organized, and the winner could enter class F.

Naturally, this prize would hardly attract many people, but the fact that the tournament had a much lower entry fee than the regular tests made it more appealing.

Still, there probably wouldn’t be many high-level competitors.

Anyone could register, but there was a limited number of spots, and they were all filled. For a moment, Davi’s heart sank, thinking he had missed this opportunity.

"Don’t worry, you’re already registered," the holographic projection continued.

The competition would be a knockout format, where 128 participants would be randomly drawn into duels. Those who won would advance and be drawn into more duels.

There would be 20 minutes of rest between each fight, and the one who reached the final and won would receive the prize. Another important detail was that the use of any magical equipment or weapons was prohibited.

This format clearly presented a major issue for Davi: although it was unlikely there would be an opponent he couldn’t defeat using <Love the King>, he could only use that ability once per day.

Obviously, with only a 20-minute break between fights, he would need to find a solution. Facing his enemies using only the power of his original class was not an option.

Clearly, Amelia had thought at that just to fuck with him.

That said, it was a bit obvious the solution to this problem. He would need to learn to fight his ability without relying on the system. So maybe he could only activate it for a minute against each enemy, or something like that.

Of course, this wasn’t simple at all and until the end, Amelia didn’t seem willing to make things easier, imposing yet another test on the boy.

"But I’ll make it," he still announced confidently.

After four days of training, he still had no idea how to activate his ability without relying on the system. It seemed simply impossible. That said, the enemy in front of him moved to attack.

It was a man with some kind of summoning class. He quickly summoned two creatures that looked like horned dogs and sent them to attack Davi.

The tournament had begun, and the boy no longer had time to doubt. As best as he could, he dodged the first strike from the creatures, but it quickly became clear that they were much faster and stronger than he was.

Not only were the monsters fast, but they also attacked in perfect synchronization, leaving him no room to defend himself or plan a counterattack.

He retreated again, feeling sweat drip down his forehead, his leg muscles shaking as he leapt to avoid one of the creatures’ jaws.

For a brief moment, his eyes locked on the summoner, who watched from a distance with a calm, calculating look. This man seemed to know that fatigue would soon take over Davi, and he waited calmly for his victory.

The boy took a deep breath as he faced the enemies charging toward him. His legs were already heavy, yet he had to try to strike back.

Davi forced his body to dodge the first strike from the dogs and quickly tried to propel himself forward. Then, an intense pain coursed through his body.

He howled in pain, realizing that his leg was caught in the jaws of one of the monsters. The other could attack at any moment but stopped at the command of its master. The summoner probably wanted to give Davi a chance to surrender without suffering further injury.

Frustrated and desperate, he endured the pain and kicked the monster away. As he tried to rise, an intense energy surged through his body.

As if responding to his desperate desire for power, the statuses of the girls from his harem began to fill his body. Flames erupted from his body as he transformed into Ifrit.

Not wanting to waste any more time, Davi quickly charged at the summoner, who, upon realizing the situation had changed, gave up.

Soon after, Davi collapsed exhausted on the ground and had to be rushed to the doctor. Still, he had won.

Twenty minutes barely gave him enough time to recover, but the boy finally seemed to have gained some control over his powers.

Under extreme pressure, either the soul breaks, or a diamond is formed.

In the following battles, he still struggled to activate his abilities, and his control was far from perfect. Still, Davi eventually made it to the final and defeated his last opponent.

When the referee announced his victory, Davi paused for a moment, doubting his ears, as an inexplicable emotion overtook his body.

He would finally become an explorer at Enki academy.
