Rise of the Harem King -
Chapter 33: A Traitor by Nature
Chapter 33: A Traitor by Nature
The master-servant contract was one of the most powerful abilities of the [Guardian Beast] class. By forming the contract, she would choose a master to serve and protect forever.
In exchange for this choice, she would gain immense power and the ability to tap into the full potential of her class. However, there was a price to pay: she would become a servant to the one to whom she pledged loyalty.
She would sacrifice her freedom to protect the one she trusted and believed in; a costly and risky price for the power the contract bestowed.
Yet, Lara had never been able to find the right person. In fact, she didn’t even believe such a person could exist.
Everything that had happened in her past left a deep scar on her soul, making her unable to fully use her class.
There was a profound fear in her heart, a fear that the next person she chose to protect would betray her, just as Zack had done in the past.
This fear held her back, forcing her to live in a constant state of alert, unable to fully trust anyone.
Still, for some reason, her soul chose Davi. She felt strangely at ease near him, in a way she had never felt before.
Finally, her mind accepted the judgment of her soul. Lara sealed the contract, giving everything she had and was to the man she now wished to protect.
With her newfound power, she advanced, striking Zack with all her might. Blow after blow, she continued to attack the cowardly man, who at that moment was begging for mercy.
He muttered apologies quickly, inventing lie after lie to justify what had happened in the past.
"I had no choice!" he claimed, but there was not an ounce of remorse in his voice.
His mind quickly invented a reality that suited him. He explained how the seniors had forced him to do everything he had done.
What a tragic story of his. He said that if he hadn’t handed over his best friend, they would’ve continued bullying him. What choice did he have?
With the same shamelessness, Zack continued to lie, recounting how he had tried to convince Luis to let Lara live in peace, but the young man persisted, becoming more determined with each passing moment.
Of course, all of it was far from the truth.
His words would never reach Lara, who, at that moment, was beating him with all her hatred.
When he realized he had no options left, Zack thought about giving up. He cursed his own luck. How could he have foreseen that Lara would become so powerful?
But fate seemed to smile upon him.
Suddenly, Luis vanished, and an intense explosion shook the place.
A massive monster emerged in the small room, roaring with fury and destroying the castle around them.
To prevent that beast from continuing its rampage, Lara immediately turned her attention to it. Roaring with the same fury, she launched into a fierce battle against the grotesque creature that was the result of some mad scientist’s experiment.
The creature had the body of a dragon, but its head was that of a giant bull. Its tail bore deadly spikes, and its scales appeared to be a fusion of various beasts.
Despite its grotesque appearance, the creature was undeniably a success, given its overwhelming power. It moved with brutal force, advancing toward Lara and destroying everything in its path, confronting her with unimaginable strength.
And as these two powerful beings clashed, a rat lingered in the shadows, attempting to sneak by.
Using his powers to become invisible, Zack cautiously moved forward, making sure not to draw attention to himself.
Things hadn’t gone according to his plan, but still, an opportunity presented itself. With that, he approached Alexia, holding a knife.
The girl was obviously too weak to defend herself, and that made it the perfect moment to eliminate her.
Amidst the chaos, no one could have known who had made that move.
Still, a doubt lingered in Zack’s mind. What would be better, killing the girl or destroying her mind? Both options seemed equally tempting and paved the way for him to become Luis’ top adviser.
Greed shone in his eyes with every step he took toward the girl lying on the ground.
He had long wanted to eliminate the competition posed by that infuriating woman, whom the blonde, for some reason, insisted on trusting.
However, even amidst the chaos, there was one person who hadn’t taken his eyes off Zack, someone who wouldn’t allow Zack to succeed.
Davi’s heart raced as hatred consumed his body. He couldn’t accept that the traitor was now planning to attack his own ally at this moment.
Even exhausted and injured, Davi gathered all the strength he had left. He wouldn’t let Zack succeed, this was something he simply couldn’t allow.
With trembling legs and labored breathing, Davi fought to stand. The pain spread through every muscle. With one final burst of energy, he lunged forward, reaching Zack before he could strike.
In a swift motion, Davi pulled Zack’s arm behind him, forcing him to drop the knife. Without hesitation, he twisted his body and landed a punch directly to the traitor’s face.
The impact was so intense that Zack staggered, surprise flashing in his eyes as he realized that, even in his weakened state, Davi had managed to react and interrupt his attack.
Davi took a deep breath, staying on his feet, as he glared at Zack with silent fury.
Then came Alexia’s moment. She quickly understood what had happened and, summoning the last of her strength, she attacked Zack, severing his right arm.
Even in agony, Zack used his final resort: he dropped a grenade to the ground. After the explosion, he was nowhere to be seen.
Zack would never engage in a fight he had any chance of losing, which is why he fled the scene, realizing his last attempt had failed. He was frustrated but also was too much of a coward to do anything about it.
The swordswoman, on the other hand, had no strength left. In her last conscious act, she thanked him for his help and swore she would repay the favor someday. Then she gave up, and disappeared.
Very far from there, she found herself appearing in a white room, designed to receive those who had given up. Unable to withstand it any longer, she collapsed, falling unconscious to the ground.
However, the situation was far from favorable, and reality once again mocked Davi.
Before his eyes, he saw Lara fall, crushed against the ground by that monstrous creature.
After fighting to the point of exhaustion, her animal ears and claws vanished, signaling that her transformation had reached its limit.
Seeing his opponent’s weakened state, the beast roared, preparing for a final attack.
The unconscious girl couldn’t even give up to escape the situation, leaving Davi no choice but to do something.
He clenched his fists and tried to activate his ability one more time. He just needed one second, just a little more power, then...
His body wouldn’t move. He simply couldn’t move anymore.
The boy screamed in desperation as he watched the monster’s claw inch closer and closer to Lara.
Was this the end?
He simply couldn’t do anything.
When the claw was just centimeters away from striking Lara, a brilliant flash cut through the battlefield. A swift and powerful figure positioned itself between her and the creature.
Aden stood as a shield between the blow and the girl. Then, with a powerful kick, he sent the girl flying toward Davi while turning to face the monster before him.
"Take Lara and get out of here now! I’ll hold this thing off!"
Perhaps that was a good plan. Perhaps Aden’s absurd defense would allow him to survive long enough for them to escape. After that, all he would have to do was give up.
However, Davi could barely move. His breathing was labored, and his body remained completely still.
Frustration consumed the boy’s soul; he wished he had just a little more strength, just a bit more power.
"You were incredible," then a soft voice graced his ears.
Davi was captivated by the image that appeared before him.
Glowing faintly, the one who had only observed the entire situation until that moment finally decided to intervene.
And seeing the woman who emerged before him, Davi couldn’t help but be enchanted. She was so beautiful, in an almost sublime way.
Her golden hair seemed to shine like the sun, and her eyes were as blue as the sky.
She approached the boy with calm steps and knelt down so their eyes could meet.
She got so close that he could almost feel her lips touching his. And in that instant, she spoke in a soft voice.
"I’ve decided that you will be my man. I was impressed by your courage and determination." Her words had no tone of a question, as for her, Davi had no choice but to follow her will. "After this battle, come find me."
Sophia then sealed the moment with a gentle kiss. But Davi couldn’t help but notice that it was a strange kiss. His lips touched what seemed like other lips, but it didn’t feel right.
He couldn’t know this, but it was nothing more than a spiritual projection of the blonde, who remained safe and comfortable far away.
"I see that you desire the power to fight once again. Very well, I’ll grant it to you."
After hearing those words, Davi felt a gentle warmth envelop his body, like a light approaching him. And suddenly, he felt strength return to his body. Not only that, but he could use the ability <Love the King> once more.
"Just don’t overdo..." Before she could finish her explanation, the boy lunged aggressively at the monster that was hurting his friends.
Sophia sighed, knowing he would definitely exaggerate. Then she slowly disappeared, lamenting that she would not be able to witness the end of that battle.
