Rise of the Harem King -
Chapter 31: Warrior soul
Chapter 31: Warrior soul
Davi was forced to retreat with each step, struggling to defend himself against Alexia’s relentless attacks. The constant threat of her <air slash> kept him on edge, never allowing him to relax for even a moment.
His body screamed in pain, and he could feel the weight of exhaustion settling in. His muscles no longer reacted with the same speed and precision, and the sharp sting of countless cuts began to spread across his skin.
How could he win? She was simply too powerful; this was impossible.
Still, he forced his foot into the ground and advanced for another strike. He needed to find a way to win this fight.
But his determination once again had to face the harsh reality of the immense mountain standing before him.
Alexia easily dodged his strike, spinning gracefully, and suddenly, her blade shone as she accelerated, preparing for a perfect cut.
Her body twirled with the grace and precision of a true master, and soon, her blade was approaching Davi. The only thing the boy could do was grab the sword with his left hand, stopping her strike.
His blood spilled onto the ground and the woman’s blade, which he gripped with all his strength.
Then, he prepared to try to strike her again, swinging his sword. However, she drew a small knife from her waist and defended against his blow.
She then took a step back and once again sliced the air with perfection, sending shockwaves toward the boy. This time, he barely managed to dodge the first <air slash>, but the second one hit his leg squarely, causing him to fall to his knees.
His vision began to fade, and the pain was excruciating. Even if he used all his strength, getting back up seemed impossible.
"You are a true warrior," Alexia acknowledged with a slight admiration in her voice. "However, this is your limit. Surrender before you get seriously hurt."
Davi cast a healing spell on himself, easing some of the pain. Then he cauterized his wounds with fire, at least halting the intense bleeding.
Despite everything, his eyes burned with the determination to overcome the challenge in front of him.
"I can’t just give up here."
"I understand," Alexia said, her voice betraying respect for her opponent. She waited for Davi to rise, preparing for the next round of combat.
She understood that he probably needed to win here to save his friend, and she respected that. It was simply unfortunate that they had to be enemies.
If only the situation were a little different...
But she pushed those useless thoughts aside, her soul reconnecting with her blade. She had a duty to fulfill, and she would do so flawlessly. That was the only thing that mattered in this moment.
Feeling the pain coursing through his body, Davi advanced again, and they clashed once more. Soon, he found himself on the defensive again, and, trying to avoid the same outcome as before, he attempted to push her back with a torrent of fire. But it proved ineffective.
To make matters worse, he felt himself nearing his limit. It was unlikely that he would be able to use any of his abilities much longer.
But he couldn’t lose.
Blood poured from his arms, slicking his grip and making it increasingly difficult to hold onto his sword. Yet, with sheer resolve, he tightened his hand around the hilt, his fingers biting into the weapon as if it were the last tether to his will. Every ounce of his soul went into the fight, fueling his resolve to push through the pain.
Then he roared with all his determination.
His body burned with the desire to press forward, and he felt his heart pound aggressively. His muscles screamed in pain, but for a moment, he surged forward, pushing himself harder, faster, and faster still.
Alexia barely had time to react, as her enemy’s blade closed in on her. Yet, somehow, she managed to block the strike.
Just like he had done in the fight against that obnoxious redhead, he only needed to push his body to the limit for a brief moment.
No, even if he did that, it probably wouldn’t be enough to win.
Instead, he needed to buy time. Two minutes would probably be enough. He needed to focus the power he could borrow and push forward.
The boy felt a new strength surge through his body, but he was far from being able to control it, and his muscles began to tear as he advanced with more power than he should.
Still, he managed to pressure his opponent. The first strike forced her to step back. With the second, he grazed her cheek. On the third, his sword hit her abdomen directly.
But his opponent wouldn’t stay still either. Enduring the pain, Alexia pushed forward, thinking of the responsibility she bore. Their swords collided once again, producing a sharp, resounding noise throughout the room.
The swords of both danced through the air at an impressive speed, as the girl used every ounce of power she had.
And from that intense dance, the victor emerged undeniably.
Davi fell to his knees, unable to move a single muscle. Reality hit him, despite pushing himself to the limit, he still wasn’t strong enough.
But he didn’t need to be stronger than her.
The boy sighed in relief, and just before Alexia’s blade could strike him, she was hit by a man in armor, who was hurled toward her.
Lara charged furiously to attack Alexia. She, too, had a time limit on her transformation, so she needed to end the fight quickly.
Moreover, seeing Davi so badly injured made her furious.
From the beginning, the boy knew he couldn’t win alone. In fact, in a way, up until now, he had been fighting only because he had help from Ember, Luna, and even Ana, who had lent him some of their power.
And even though he wasn’t capable of winning that battle on his own, with Lara’s help, victory could finally be within reach.
Davi tried to get up again, knowing that even though he had been pushed to his limit, he still needed to help Lara. He couldn’t leave the entire responsibility of the fight on her shoulders. After all, he knew how determined Alexia was.
So, he managed to send another torrent of fire, hitting Alexia and leaving her with no room to breathe. Seizing the opportunity, Lara landed a series of punches against the swordswoman, pushing her to her own limits.
Thinking about the responsibility she had to everyone who trusted in the grup, the girl tried to grip the hilt of her sword with even more strength. She too roared with all her soul, but...
The strength slipped from her, and she dropped her precious weapon to the ground.
Then, her knees hit the dark floor as she felt her limits finally catching up with her. No, more than that, someone had attacked her from behind, forcing her to reach her breaking point just a little sooner than expected.
Unaware of what was happening, Lara seized the moment and landed a powerful punch to Alexia’s stomach, causing her to vomit blood as she was defeated.
And it was at that moment that the architect of it all revealed himself. Davi felt the sharp pain of a strike to his back.
From the start, Luis had decided that his three most powerful warriors would always be by his side to protect him. And now, it was time for the third man to show himself.
Disguising his invisibility, Zack smiled sadistically and stepped on Davi’s fallen body. He then murmured to himself.
"I thank you, idiot. Your determination will allow me to eliminate that unnecessary woman." He smiled in a sadistic way.
Naturally, Lara spun around furious upon realizing her dear friend had been attacked, but in an instant, her role changed from predator to prey.
Her body began to tremble, and memories she wished to forget flooded her mind. That dark room and those filthy hands.
Her chest constricted, and the air seemed to vanish from her lungs, leaving her struggling for each breath.
"You..." she could only manage to whisper those words.
Zack advanced with a broad smile on his face.
"So you still can’t deal with that pathetic trauma of yours. How convenient," he grinned wider as he slowly approached the woman.
With every step he took, her fear deepened, morphing into an overwhelming terror as the haunting memories of her past began to engulf her mind.
The reason for this wasn’t just the fear itself but Zack’s ability <hypnosis>.
After crossing the battlefield with a confident smile, he got close enough to press the tip of his index finger against the girl’s forehead.
"Now, have sweet dreams and become a compliant doll," he could barely contain his pleasure, knowing he could destroy yet another mind.
Then Lara felt her consciousness start to fade, as more and more memories from the past enveloped her completely.
