Chapter 128: Start of the tournament.
Start of the tournament.
Sophia felt the world around her swallowed by flashes of white light. When her senses returned, she found herself in a spotless room, white walls with no decorations, lit by a diffuse light that didn’t seem to come from any specific source.
In front of her was a large screen that took up nearly the entire wall. The LCD display showed a colorful roulette wheel, still and waiting, as if awaiting a command.
Looking around, the blonde saw that the other members of her group had also been brought there. After exchanging quick glances with them, she stepped forward, approaching the screen.
At that moment, the image changed. A chibi-style animated girl appeared on the screen.
"Hello, players!" the little girl’s voice echoed cheerfully. "Before the big game begins, you must go through a small luck test. So step forward and press the red button."
Right after her words ended, a hatch opened on the floor, and a totem with a large button rose from it. Looking at the camera filming all of it, Sophia sighed, considering the whole thing a huge waste of money.
Regardless, she stepped forward and pressed the button. The roulette on the screen came to life, spinning with an electronic sound, its colors blurring until it stopped... on a light red square.
"Ooh, sorry, it’s a mild penalty!" the animated girl laughed, covering her mouth with one hand. "Better luck next time," she said in a playful tone.
Then the entire screen turned red, and the following phrase appeared in comically oversized letters:
’CHOOSE A MEMBER OF YOUR TEAM TO BE REMOVED FROM THE GAME FOR 1 HOUR.’
Just below the words, photos of the six members of the girl’s group appeared. Without a moment’s hesitation, the blonde clicked on Liza’s photo. She wouldn’t be very useful in this phase anyway, so it was irrelevant.
Next, the screen changed once again, now showing a map where the blonde could choose where each member of her group would be teleported.
She decided to send everyone to the central region, where a boss monster would be waiting to be defeated. She’d probably receive a reward for taking it down. Besides, it was unlikely that any other group would choose that location, so it would be a good base.
Meanwhile, Davi could only grumble. He would’ve loved to be shown the same map after spinning the roulette... But instead, he was randomly sent to the game alone. Now found himself in the middle of a dense forest, with no idea where his teammates were.
He didn’t even know where the boss in this area was, nor had he been given a chance to take a look at the geography of the place through the map. And before he could even try climbing a tree to get his bearings, he heard the sound of approaching footsteps.
"There’s someone there," a female voice shouted. "Attack, now."
The next instant, Davi saw his world taken over by ice, which he dodged at the very last second.
To compound his bad luck, he ended up encountering an entire group of enemies. However, he was surprised to see Lina, who was trying her best to capture him with her ice magic.
Luckily, the girl wasn’t the best in terms of aim, so escaping wasn’t a big problem.
But she was a powerful mage who couldn’t be easily defeated, and he didn’t even know who was in her group, so he wanted to flee at that moment.
Therefore, he took out one of the six magic graces from his pocket and threw it in the direction of the women, wanting to create a distraction.

At the same time, not too far away, Lara heard the sound of the explosion caused by the grenade.
She couldn’t tell whether it came from an ally or an enemy, so she simply sharpened her instincts and paid close attention to everything around her.
And it was by doing that that she heard a voice that made her entire body tremble.
Her first instinct was to flee, after all, she just didn’t want to deal with that man. But before she could escape, Lara noticed a woman approaching to attack her with a spear.
She dodged the first strike, but soon another man joined the fight, wrapping her left arm with his whip and trying to restrain her.
"Looks like you’ve already found good prey," Zack emerged from the dense vegetation, a serious expression on his face. Then, his lips twisted into a terrifying smile the moment he realized who he’d run into. Truly, this was his lucky day.
"You got separated from the rest of your group?" Zack said in a cheerful tone. "Don’t worry, she’ll be easy to defeat." He gave a confident smile
He spoke to the rest of his team while stepping forward to atack.

Around the same time, another reunion of old acquaintances was taking place.
Alexia was sent to a region far from where Davi and Lara were, surrounded by a rocky environment where no large trees could flourish.
On the horizon, she could see the edge of the forest, and not far from there, it was possible to hear the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.
But what caught her attention in that plain was that in the distance, she was able to see a group that appeared to have just been teleported, just like her.
At first, she thought it was better not to approach. After all, she needed to look for the rest of her companions so that they could formulate a plan to deal with that place.
To begin with, direct confrontation wasn’t even necessary at that stage. Any group that survived 5 days would automatically advance to the second phase.
That said, when she noticed that the leader of the group was Luis, she couldn’t contain herself.
"That damn idiot..." she muttered to herself, then made an irrational decision.
Her muscles moved on their own by pure killing instinct, and in an instant, she advanced to attack that team. She couldn’t resist her desire to prove to Luis how incompetent he was and the mistake he made in discarding her.
Therefore, she was going to humiliate him in front of all the spectators of that event.

Ember looked around and sighed deeply, noticing that she was in the middle of nowhere without any of her companions nearby.
To make matters worse, she couldn’t help but notice the unpleasant smell that permeated her surroundings.
No matter where she looked, she could only find destruction and death.
In that place, just a few days ago, there had been a large and majestic forest. However, now it was difficult to find any trees nearby because that thing had destroyed everything in its path.
The redhead had no way of knowing about this, but she had been very unlucky regarding the location she had been sent to. After all, that was where the arena boss was located.
And it wouldn’t take long for her to feel her body tremble as she came face to face with that enormous presence.

Finally, by sheer coincidence, two idiots ended up together.
Alden, who couldn’t deal any damage to anyone because of his class. And Adrien, who, despite his appearance, didn’t have any real power to harm an opponent.
Truly, an impressive duo. And they both knew it, which is why they exchanged a worried look.
"I hope we don’t run into any enemies," Adrien said.
"Yeah," Alden sighed, "We need to find the others as soon as possible."
After saying that, Alden scanned their surroundings. They were in a dense forest that seemed full of monsters. Wanting to avoid conflict, he suggested they hide somewhere. And by coincidence, he spotted a nearby cave.
Cautiously, Adrien followed Alden into the dark cave entrance. The damp, cold air surrounded them as they stepped inside, and the sound of their own footsteps echoed against the stone walls.
Alden felt along the cave’s walls, trying not to get lost in the darkness.
Suddenly, a reddish glow appeared deep within the cave, accompanied by a subtle rustling that quickly grew into a chorus of shrieks and clicking noises.
Hundreds of eyes lit up in the shadows, reflecting the faint light coming from the entrance. Monsters of all shapes and sizes emerged from the darkness, their terrifying silhouettes growing clearer with every second.
Panic struck Alden and Adrien, and in an almost instinctive reaction, the two clung to each other, screaming in fear.
"Run!" Adrien shouted, his voice filled with terror.
Alden didn’t need any more encouragement. His feet barely touched the ground as he sprinted behind Adrien, screaming desperately. Their panicked cries echoed through the forest.
In the end, Adrien jumped onto Alden’s back and repeatedly used a stamina recovery ability to keep him running. And suddenly, Alden felt like he was back in that damned Rank S test, following one of Davi’s insane plans.
