Chapter 127: Assembling the group.
"As expected, the teams will be made up of six members. As long as they’re first-year students, anyone can participate," Alexia said after finishing reading the official announcement on Enki’s website.
At that moment, she was sitting at a round table, with Lara and Ember at her side. In front of her sat Luna, Alden, and Davi.
They had gathered to discuss how to form a team.
"It’s a shame, but I don’t think I’ll be able to help," Luna sighed, though it was something everyone already knew.
Obviously, the five of them had planned to team up for the tournament for some time. So, they just needed to think of a sixth member to invite.
They had only been waiting to confirm whether the teams would have six or seven members, since those rules changed from year to year.
Also, Davi had been hopeful they would release some information about the first phase, but they ended up with almost nothing.
The official announcement confirmed that the tournament would have three phases. But there weren’t many useful details they could use to make a decision.
In the first phase, all teams would be divided into four different arenas. Each arena would host seven teams.
Basically, the tournament would start with a battle royale, and any team that survived for five days would move on to the second phase and receive rewards.
The second phase was still undefined, but it would be a selection process, narrowing it down so that only one team per arena remained. Finally, as tradition dictated, the tournament would end with team battles. The four remaining teams would be randomly matched for a semifinal and then a final.
The problem was that, without knowing anything about the arena they’d be sent to, Davi couldn’t figure out what kind of abilities and classes they would need.
By the way, based on the tournament’s structure, only 28 teams would be able to participate, totaling 140 students.
Yes, that was a lot, but with 40 students per rank, there were more than 200 students in the first year alone. So not everyone could enter the tournament. In that sense, the exclusion criteria were quite simple: rank. Higher-ranked students had priority.
Also, not everyone tried to participate or managed to form a team.
In fact, even the arenas would be divided based on a ranking coefficient, to prevent extremely powerful teams from facing each other in the first phase.
"I think we should just look for someone with healing powers," Davi simply suggested after thinking for a while.
Regardless of the scenario, they’d probably get hurt, and at that point, healing abilities would be very useful.
"I agree, but I don’t want Ana," Ember said immediately.
"Okay, okay, don’t worry, we already know that," Alden replied in a tired tone, that wasn’t the first time the redhead had brought it up.
"Do you guys know anyone?" Lara asked. She only interacted with rank S students, and none of them were a viable option.
Alexia thought for a while but finally sighed and admitted defeat. She couldn’t think of anyone who would agree to join them.
Davi said he knew someone, a rank E girl he had met during the weeks he was stuck in the rift. She would probably agree to help, but she wasn’t very strong.
"Actually, leave it to me. I know the perfect guy for this!" Alden said in an upbeat tone.
And with no better options, everyone agreed with him. Either way, the five of them alone were already strong enough to handle almost any challenge.
"Okay, but it’d be good to meet him before the day of the tournament. Can you send him a message?" Davi asked.
"Don’t worry," Alden replied. After a moment, he added, "How about the day after tomorrow?"
Everyone agreed with the plan. Then Ember had to leave because she had a special training session with a fighting instructor.
Alden also left the group shortly after, saying he was going to the movies with some friends. The rest of the group continued with the last activity they had planned for that day: buying equipment.
Luna, who was a total nerd about the subject, took responsibility for helping them find the best prices and the most useful weapons.
That said, unfortunately, their budget wasn’t very big. After her fight with her brother, Ember’s relationship with her family had soured, so she couldn’t ask them for much.
And Alexia had spent most of her money on the Harem House project.
In terms of day-to-day expenses, they were still well-off. Especially Lara and Ember, since rank S students could take high-paying missions and collect rarer items in the rift.
However, combat equipment was extremely expensive, especially the high-quality ones.

"This is Adrian," Alden said with a big smile on his face as he pointed to his friend.
The other team members couldn’t help but look at him in surprise. And when he opened his mouth, their surprise intensified even more:
"Hello, it’s a pleasure," his voice was angelic and high-pitched, sounding almost feminine.
And in a cute way, he looked away with a shy smile on his handsome face.
That said, he was taller than Lara, and his body was a mountain of muscles stacked on more muscles.
A large scar ran across his chest, giving him the appearance of a gangster, yet his face and mannerisms made him seem like a shy and kind young man.
Everything about him was a walking contradiction. Including the giant baseball bat strapped to his back, which functioned as a magic staff.
The purpose of a magic staff was to better channel mana and help control magical abilities. But in reality, the most important thing about them was the magical crystals used to create them, meaning they could be almost any shape.
Adrian had chosen an intimidating and unusual giant baseball bat because he was a big fan of the sport. He couldn’t even use it to attack anything, since it was a fragile and delicate item.
On top of all that, the clothes he wore had nothing to do with a healer’s image. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, just old denim shorts and sandals.
"You can say it, you’d never imagine this guy has healing powers, right?" Alden said with a wide grin, enjoying everyone’s shock.
Adrian took a shy step back while the others could only agree. He really did have the body of a warrior. That said, Adrian was a wonderful person, truly kind-hearted. It was hard to even imagine him killing an ant.
Finally, Davi registered his team, with Alexia, Ember, Alden, Adrian, and Lara. The next day, the six of them were sent to the center of a gigantic stadium. With them were over 100 students spread out around the place.
In the audience, many people were there to watch the tournament’s opening. Besides being a way for students to show off their skills and grow, the event also served as entertainment.
Everything would be streamed online for thousands to see.
At that moment, Amélia was giving an emotional speech about the exciting event she would be leading. The money the tournament brought in was important for the academy’s budget, so she was giving it her all, she even mentioned the sponsors at one point.
Davi couldn’t help but smile slightly, finding it funny to see that woman trying her best to please the audience like that. Normally, she gave colder and more straightforward speeches, so the contrast was amusing.
Finally, she explained that the teams would be separated into 4 groups and continued commenting on the rules that Davi already knew. And with a snap of her fingers, enormous walls appeared in the center of the stadium, separating it into 4.
In each of the four quadrants formed, 10 groups could be seen.
Davi quickly looked around his surroundings and soon recognized the faces of some familiar enemies, which made his expression set in annoyance.
But as expected, Sophia wasn’t there. In fact, the only Rank S student in that place was Luis, who didn’t seem to have a particularly strong team. Finally, before sending everyone to their respective arenas, Amelia commented on something.
"At the request of the sponsors, we’ve decided to add a surprise to the event this time."
The audience fell silent, wanting to know what it was. Then, on the screens spread throughout the stadium and on the broadcast screen, a giant roulette wheel appeared.
"Before the game begins, all groups will spin the roulette. And they can get anything from great luck to great misfortune!"
Soon after commenting on this, she talked about the new release of random boxes from a mobile game that was sponsoring the match.
But the students didn’t care much about that, after all, they had been warned about it in advance.
And the truth was that most of the prizes and punishments were irrelevant. Things like basic equipment or starting in a slightly better location.
The only truly dangerous item was the [Random Spawn] punishment, but the chances of getting that were programmed to be one in ten thousand.
No one would be unlucky enough to get that. It was simply impossible.
"And who’s going to spin the roulette?" Davi asked.
"You’re the leader, so it has to be you," Alexia commented.
Then Davi stepped forward and achieved the impossible. Thanks to this, all the members of his group were sent to random points on the map.
Seeing that someone had been so unlucky and, moreover, that person had been Davi, Amelia laughed lightly, surprised by the boy’s misfortune.
