Chapter 183: Lucian vs Nathalie 2 (Flashback)
As they took the battle more seriously, they both invoked their respective domains—but unlike humans, who called it a domain, beasts called theirs a beast zone.
Lucian stood in the heart of the dense forest, lightning crackling faintly along his arms as his muscles tensed in anticipation. Then, with a calm yet commanding voice, he declared,
"Domain: Voltari’s Rule."
Instantly, the forest was transformed.
Lightning surged across the terrain, wild arcs of energy dancing over roots, searing through thick tree trunks, and illuminating the thick canopy above.
The air snapped with static, the temperature rising sharply as bolts scorched the earth and left deep burns in the moss-covered ground. Birds scattered from the trees in terrified flocks, and nearby creatures fled the surge of power.
But Nathalie, standing in a clearing of frost and still air, was not idle. Her white fur shimmered with ancient power, and her crystalline-blue eyes narrowed as she invoked her beast zone.
"Beast Zone: Glacial Majesty."
The transformation was immediate. From beneath her paws, waves of ice spread outward, freezing the damp earth, curling around roots and tree trunks. Mist rolled out, dense and chilling, engulfing the undergrowth.
Her cold aura surged into the sky, sending frost spiraling up through the branches. Snowflakes began to fall from thin air.
The moment their domains met, the forest groaned.
Lucian’s lightning clashed violently against Nathalie’s ice, sparking like thunderclaps as arcs of golden energy slammed into glacial walls.
Trees exploded into splinters where opposing forces collided. The once-vibrant woods became a storm of destruction—half scorched and smoldering, half frozen into jagged sculptures of crystal and snow.
Yet Lucian’s eyes narrowed. Amidst the chaos, he sensed a creeping threat. Though the clash looked even, he could feel the truth: Nathalie’s ice was encroaching upon his domain, freezing it molecule by molecule. It was slow, precise, and deadly.
His lightning surged in arcs of furious energy, but already, faint tendrils of frost were forming at the fringes of his domain. It dulled the brilliance of his bolts, thickened the air, and slowed the currents. This was no ordinary beast zone.
Lucian moved.
With a burst of speed fueled by Voltari’s Rule, he shot forward, the ground rupturing beneath his feet. Trees bowed under the force of his movement. His golden spear materialized in a blaze of lightning, thrusting forward in a devastating arc aimed at Nathalie’s flank.
But the ice empress met him head-on.
Raising one clawed paw, she summoned a towering wall of translucent ice, thicker than stone and cold enough to sting through magic.
The spear struck it with thunderous force, causing spiderweb cracks to streak across its surface. Nathalie stepped sideways, her paw leaving frozen footprints behind, and retaliated with a stream of razor-sharp icicles.
Lucian twisted midair, his spear a golden blur as he deflected some and dodged others. The few that grazed him left trails of frostburn on his skin. When he landed, it was in a crouch, lightning rippling across his arms.
The battlefield had become a warzone.
Thunder roared above as Lucian’s domain carved lines of molten destruction through the forest floor. Trees split in half, their trunks smoldering from within. Meanwhile, Nathalie’s Glacial Majesty had transformed entire sections of the woodland into icy fortresses—spiked, shimmering, and perilous.
Frost and lightning lashed at each other in a war of attrition.
Lucian was aware that the tide was shifting. His domain had started to flicker. It centered on enhancing his physical abilities while also having a stun effect that could immobilize anyone within it.
However, the stun effect didn’t activate immediately on opponents of the same rank as him; instead, it required constant exposure to be effective or even work at all.
Now, Nathalie was countering this with her freezing aura, which dulled even the lightning stun effect, and also his movement. As a result, his spear swings slowed, and his footwork felt heavier.
Nathalie pressed the advantage.
With a growl more regal than savage, she sent a sheet of ice hurtling toward him, then vanished behind it. Lucian responded with a thunderclap from his palm, shattering the barrier, only to realize she had leapt above it. From midair, she launched a blizzard spike aimed at his shoulder.
He brought up his spear in time, redirecting it—but the frozen edge scraped his cheek, leaving a trail of numbing cold. Blood trickled and froze immediately.
Lucian gritted his teeth. Then, planting his spear into the ground, he channeled power from his domain. A radial burst of lightning erupted outward, sending shockwaves through the forest and scattering chunks of frozen debris.
Nathalie skidded back, her paws digging trenches in the ice. Yet her expression remained composed, if not slightly amused.
Lucian panted softly, watching as frost began to creep up the shaft of his spear. The stun effect of his domain had begun to settle over her—he saw it in the half-second delay in her last leap—but her Beast Zone’s overwhelming pressure kept tilting the balance.
And then came the realization. Unless he acted decisively, he would be overrun.
With a burst of power, he vanished in a blur of light.
A thunderous boom cracked the air as he reappeared behind her, spear sweeping upward in a golden arc aimed at her back. But Nathalie spun, encasing herself in a dome of ice that absorbed the blow, splintering at the impact.
He could see the dome fracturing, her breathing steady but slightly more labored. She was starting to feel the weight of his domain—but his lightning, too, had begun to falter, its flow slowed by frost.
A final clash.
They charged at each other, one a storm of divine lightning, the other a maelstrom of perfect ice.
The forest held its breath.
Spear clashed against claw.
Ice burst against lightning.
The impact shattered trees and sent a wave of destruction for hundreds of meters. Mist, ozone, and frost clouded the air.
When it cleared, both figures stood apart, breathing heavily. Frost clung to Lucian’s cloak, and lightning sparked faintly along Nathalie’s shoulders.
Lucian rolled his shoulder, his gaze sharp.
"I think that’s enough for testing the waters," he muttered under his breath, already calculating his next move.
Because if he didn’t end this soon, none of his men would survive the onslaught still raging on the battlefield behind him.
