Chapter 167: Academy Competition 13: Two Moves
[Back To Christopher.]
[Five minutes later.]
"Alright everyone! Welcome back!" the announcer’s voice boomed, now standing on the arena ground, mic in hand.
"Let’s give a thunderous welcome to our contestants for the final round! In first place, we have Vitality Academy, proudly represented by Master Christopher and Miss Advika!" He gestured grandly towards Christopher and Advika, as the Vitality Academy students erupted in a cacophony of cheers.
"With exceptional teamwork, Vitality Academy secured a total of 7,000 points, with all their matches concluding swiftly!" he continued, and the cheers only grew louder.
"That’s why we’re the best!"
"Yes! We will win!"
"Our strongest are in the final round, there’s no way we’ll lose!"
"Yeah!"
The announcer nodded, a smile gracing his lips, and then continued, "Now, let’s hear it for our second-place holders! Guardian Academy! Represented by Master Tony and Master Zack!" He gestured to the duo, adding:
"Through remarkable teamwork, Guardian Academy also amassed a total of 7,000 points, hot on the heels of Vitality Academy!"
The Guardian Academy students cheered, though their enthusiasm didn’t quite match the fervent roar of Vitality Academy’s supporters.
"And in third place, we have Miss Stella! Who skillfully led her team to this position! But I must admit, this will be a tough match for her!" he announced, as the First Star Academy students nodded somberly, their cheers subdued.
A palpable sense of resignation hung in the air; there was no conceivable way Stella could triumph against the four powerhouses from the other two academies. Absolutely no way.
Stella’s gaze swept across the arena, her mind drifting back to her Dean’s words from just moments ago.
___
[Resting Room Reflections.]
Stella sat on a plush couch, her team huddled around her, all staring at their Dean, who sat before them in a tense silence...
...Five long minutes stretched by before the Dean finally broke the quiet, her voice soft.
"Third place is enough... We’ve always taken second place." A sad smile touched her lips. "First time for everything, right?"
Stella glanced at Addison, then at the other two, a sigh escaping her lips. "But Dean, we came here—"
"—We came here thinking we had the strongest force... Josephine isn’t in any condition to fight those students from the other academies... Same with Miriam." The Dean smiled, a hint of melancholy in her eyes.
"Thanks to Christopher, Addison can now use her full powers, but she can’t participate in the next round... And your beast?" She turned to Stella, her expression turning dead serious.
"It’s a risk to bring it out... Christopher spared its life because of you, but the others won’t." She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a serious tone.
"So when the third round starts, surrender!" she commanded, her gaze fixed on Stella.
Stella’s eyes flickered to her teammates, who all nodded in agreement with the Dean’s pronouncement. She exhaled, a decision made, and finally nodded her head. "Alright then."
________
[Back in the Arena.]
"Now! These are the rules!" The announcer snapped his fingers, and behind him, a shimmering gateway materialized, pulsating with light.
"This is the battleground!" he declared, adding, "This isn’t a one-on-one battle! You work as a team, and the last team standing wins!"
He swept his gaze across the contestants. "The original rules stand, but in this round, you are allowed to use your beasts! Let the best team win!"
He stepped aside, signaling for the groups to enter. But before they could move, Stella’s clear voice rang out.
"I surrender!"
"....?!"
"...?!"
A wave of stunned silence washed over the audience and contestants alike, all turning to Stella in utter confusion.
"Are you sure about this?" the announcer asked, his voice laced with surprise.
"You said it yourself, there’s no way I can get second or first place."
"That’s not what I meant," the man quickly retorted, but Stella shook her head.
"I’m not backing out because of what you said... I can’t win, and third position is enough."
__
Both Howard and Maxim turned to the Dean of First Star Academy, their faces etched with confusion.
"What are you doing?" Howard asked.
"Doing what’s right. There’s no way my students can win against Christopher or Tony, so what’s the point of pushing forward?" she replied calmly.
The two men exchanged glances and then nodded, understanding her perspective. Neither of them planned to back down in this competition; they would fight to the end.
_
The announcer nodded, a flicker of understanding in his eyes. "Okay Stella..."
He then turned to Christopher, Zack, Tony, and Advika. "Please step inside."
The four nodded and walked forward, the entire audience watching intently as they entered the shimmering gateway and vanished from the arena. The gateway then sealed shut.
The announcer snapped his fingers again, and a colossal screen descended, displaying a live feed of the battleground within.
___
[The Battleground.]
Christopher and Advika materialized on an expansive, open field, their gazes sweeping around in mild confusion.
"Where to?" Advika asked, her voice echoing slightly in the vast space.
"No need to move," Christopher replied, his eyes fixed on a distant point.
Advika followed his gaze, spotting Zack and Tony standing approximately 200 meters directly in front of them.
"What should we do now?" she inquired, observing Christopher’s side profile.
"Hehehe... What do you think?" Christopher smirked, a glint in his eye. "The last team standing wins."
WHOOSH!!
The instant he uttered those words, a colossal force field shimmered into existence in the sky, completely enclosing them all. Advika turned, placing her hand on the barrier, and to her surprise, her hand passed right through.
"If you step out of the barrier, you lose!" The announcer’s voice reverberated throughout the enclosed space.
"Oh." Advika quickly withdrew her hand and turned back to face Zack and Tony.
"Objective!" the announcer’s voice continued. "Throw your opponents out from the shield, and you win! Remember! Teamwork!"
With that, the announcer’s voice faded completely, leaving only the quiet tension of the arena.
"Do you want to take them alone?" Tony asked Zack in a low voice, his gaze locked onto Christopher.
"Hmm... I don’t think my skill would work on Christopher. I’ll take down his teammate, and then both of us will deal with him," Zack suggested, and Tony nodded in agreement.
"Okay then... I’ll go after Christopher." Tony nodded decisively and shot off in one direction, while Zack moved in the opposite.
Christopher and Advika watched the two separate, a shared chuckle escaping their lips.
"I’ll take care of him," Advika declared, shooting towards Zack, technically flying.
Christopher calmly waited for Tony, who halted ten meters in front of him.
"You sure about this?" Tony asked, a hint of challenge in his voice.
"Sure about what?" Christopher asked, a flicker of confusion crossing his face.
"Fighting me... You’ll only get yourself hurt," Tony stated confidently.
"You really think I can’t touch you?" Christopher asked with a slight tilt of his head, his face alight with amusement.
"I see you’re stubborn. Okay then! Attack me!" Tony challenged, an arrogant smirk playing on his lips.
"You want me to attack you?" Christopher questioned, feigning surprise.
"Are you scared?" Tony’s smirk widened.
"Okay then... You asked for it."
Christopher pointed a finger at Tony, channeling 30% of his energy into it, and released an energy blast that shot towards Tony with blinding speed.
".....?!"
BOOOOOM!!!!!
The audience was speechless.
Advika and Zack, who were rapidly closing the distance between themselves, instantly froze, turning towards the deafening explosion. They watched as Tony was sent hurtling backward, directly towards the barrier.
"Watch out!!!" Zack yelled, his voice laced with urgency.
Tony managed to stabilize his body in mid-air, landing precisely on the ground, an inch from the boundary of the zone. He dropped to his knees, vomiting a mouthful of blood, while clutching his chest.
"This?!"
He stared at the blood on the ground in utter confusion, then slowly raised his head to Christopher, who stood perfectly calm in his spot.
"How?! Why didn’t my skill work on you?!" Tony spat out, his voice reverberating throughout the barrier.
"You compared me to the others; that was your mistake..." Christopher smirked, a chilling confidence in his tone.
"I am Christopher Valhalla, the eldest son of the Valhalla family! I am one of a kind! Who the hell are you to compare me with others?!" he demanded.
BOOOOOM!!
Advika and Zack looked up in astonishment as ice swords, innumerable in quantity, materialized in the sky, covering every visible spot. Advika quickly leaped backward, rushing to Christopher’s side. She knew the skill he was about to unleash, and she knew the only safe place was right beside him.
Zack, witnessing her actions, abandoned his attack and rushed back to Tony’s side.
"I will end this round with two attacks... That is a promise," Christopher declared, dropping his hand.
WHOOSH!!!!
All the swords plummeted from the sky, and at that precise moment, Zack reached Tony’s side.
"Come out!! All of you!!!!" Tony yelled, his voice strained.
BOOOM!!!
The ice swords smashed into the ground and on them with devastating force, instantly transforming the entire zone into a desolate Iceland.
"....?!!!!"
Every single soul in the arena was stunned, their faces a mixture of horror and awe. Only those who had previously witnessed the skill remained calm, though their expressions betrayed a profound respect.
Advika stared at the ice, which had completely engulfed Tony and Zack, a sense of wonder in her eyes.
BOOOOOM!!!
A colossal pillar of fire erupted from the ice, instantly melting everything in its path, and the entire expanse of ice was reduced to mere water in a matter of seconds.
Advika and Christopher watched intently as three massive, fifteen-meter-tall black dragons appeared behind Tony, their eyes fixed on the magnificent beasts.
GRAAAAAAAAA!!!
The dragons unleashed torrents of fire onto the ground, melting all the remaining ice around Tony and Zack.
"Two Divine stage beasts, and one Mythical stage beast... Level 8, Level 9, and Level 10... Impressive," Christopher muttered, a hint of acknowledgment in his voice.
"Are you scared now?!" Zack yelled, attempting to provoke them.
"Scared?" Christopher turned to Advika, a genuine look of confusion on his face. "Are you scared?" he asked, and she shook her head firmly.
"Christopher, I know you’re arrogant, but saying you’ll end this battle in two moves, isn’t that going overboard?!" Tony asked coldly, then added:
"Truthfully, I was shocked by your ice swords... But that attack can’t work on my beasts, so simply back down!"
"You call those Beasts?" Christopher asked with a chuckle, causing Zack and Tony to raise an eyebrow in puzzlement.
...They watched as he turned to Advika and asked, "Should we show them ours?"
"It won’t be fair if we don’t," Advika replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
And in unison, the two yelled:
"COME OUT!!"
