Chapter 56: Clean Up

Colonel Adin had grown a beard but still chose to keep the mustache. His hair was a mess, probably because there was no gel to style it, and he looked like he had aged a decade—but according to my calculation, they had only been here for a week or two at most.

Lt. Katrina wasn’t any different. Her skin had lost its glow and she had dark circles under her eyes. With the comfort and luxury they enjoyed as Ascendants gone, she didn’t look as graceful as before.

Behind them were five officers with their rifles pointed at them. Everyone here seemed tired and worn out, their eyes showed they must have experienced horrors I was unaware of.

But how would I know?

I had never gone beyond the walls of this castle.

"It’s you!" Colonel Adin’s voice was a mixture of shock, relief, fear, and anger.

Just my existence was giving this man mood swings.

"BASTARD!" Adin and Katrina growled as they pulled out their guns at me.

They were Virex Pulse .20s, aether-powered pistols which ran solely on aether energy. Truly, I still didn’t understand the concept of aether and how it worked, but I knew aether was a self-generating power source—meaning an aether crystal’s energy could never truly be depleted as it re-energized itself.

Even if depleted, all that was needed was time for it to regain its glow. Using it to create weapons like this meant creating a gun with unlimited ammo. Coupled with the fact it was a universal energy that could harm anything and everything—including vampires and ghosts...

Anything at all.

"Get us out of here!" Adin demanded, but I simply chuckled and shook my head.

"You’ve already been declared dead on Earth." I chuckled, and their eyes widened with a mixture of shock and horror.

"Viktor is dead as well. Somehow, Pamela and I became the heroes of Louisiana," I continued while throwing my hands apart. "Your life on Earth is over. I’ve come to end your life here as well." The last part was said with a cold voice that made them exchange worried glances.

I had no reason to mince words with them since they’d be dead soon.

Pew!

Without warning, Katrina shot a blue beam at me, but a blood thorn swung down from the walls and took the shot for its master.

Buzz!

Everyone there was shocked, their eyes widening with a mixture of disbelief and fear as they watched more blood thorns unwrap themselves from the wall and dance around me like serpents waiting for an order to strike.

"I am the Lord of this castle. God of this realm!" I chuckled. "I cannot be defeated here."

[Blood Ignition Activated!]

[-12 HP]

My eyes revealed a crimson flash as black cracks began spreading beneath my eyelids. I felt a rush of energy pour through my body, causing my veins to bulge and pulsate with crimson light.

[Stats]

Strength: 15.6

Speed: 13.2

Vitality: 13

Intelligence: 10

At this moment, I felt invincible!

"Go!" I ordered.

Swish!

The blood thorns sped forward while I walked to the side, using the sheer quantity of the blood thorns as cover.

"RETREAT TO THE CASTLE!" Adin roared as he and Katrina began walking back while unleashing barrages of blue energy beams with unnatural precision.

I was stunned.

They shot several times in a second while maintaining a hundred percent accuracy! It felt like I was watching a fast-forwarded video. But it was just humans moving at a speed normal humans couldn’t comprehend.

"Their stats are over ten... Maybe somewhere between thirteen to fifteen." I concluded before shifting my attention to the running soldiers trying to return to the castle, and I chuckled.

As soon as they ran in, the towering doors shut tight on their own with a loud bang, locking them in.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

"Fools." The space beside me tore open and I stepped in.

The next moment I was in the castle, behind the five soldiers trying to open the door they just ran into for protection.

"Since you’re here, don’t dream about leaving this place alive," I snarled as all ten fingertips tore open and blood squirted out in thin but thick concentrated threads.

[Crimson Threads Activated]

[-10 HP]

Before they could turn, I swung at them ruthlessly, unleashing ten crimson threads that lashed forward with enough speed and velocity to tear through stone.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Their cries filled the castle entrance as my threads ripped them apart, reducing them to chunks of meat stacked all over each other.

Blood gushed out from all sides, pooling beneath the bodies.

Gulg! Gulg!

Gulg! Gulg!

My eyes narrowed as a gulping sound resonated from all parts of the castle and I watched the blood flow into the ground rapidly.

"Is the castle drinking their blood?"

[Nightfall Castle Accepts Your Sacrifice.]

[Boneward Guardians Activated]

"What?" I muttered in confusion.

Wasn’t I the one supposed to sacrifice my blood to activate the Boneward statues?

"Does that mean I can avoid sacrificing my health if I can get a replacement?" I tilted my head in thought.

Ka! Ka!

A stone-shifting sound resonated from outside and I decided to check it out. Walking towards the door, they swung open, shoving aside the limbs and meat chunks clustered in front of it, making way for its Lord to pass.

Once outside, I was greeted with an impressive sight. Hundreds of blood thorns lay on the floor, severed from their roots, but there were still a thousand more prepared to strike.

Soaring high above the battlefield were five stone gargoyles. But most importantly, Adin and Katrina stood just a few meters away from the castle doors, their hair disheveled and their breathing heavy.

They held what I would refer to as lightsabers the size of a short sword. Their gazes shifted to my fingers and then past me, their eyes widening as they saw chunks of bloodied meat still wearing the familiar camouflage pieces of clothing.

"You..." Katrina gasped at the bloody sight while Adin’s eyes furrowed.

Swoosh!

Bang!

As if in response to their malicious gaze, all five gargoyles swooped down and descended with a loud bang. In an instant, I had five gargoyles blocking the path between me and the Ascendants.

It made me feel like I was a VIP that needed to be protected at all costs.

"What the hell are you?" Adin snarled, but I didn’t respond.

I was more focused on the feeling of [Blood Ignition] fading.

"Blood Ignition." I frowned. "Five seconds is a bit short, but I guess that’s why its side effects aren’t as severe as those of my Berserk Skull."

My narrowed gaze shifted to the Ascendant duo briefly, but I had already lost interest in fighting them. I quickly shifted my attention to the crate beside the castle doors filled with books stolen from the library.

"You and you," I pointed at two gargoyles before pointing at the crates, "pick this up and follow me. The rest of you should deal with the intruders."

The two stone gargoyles exchanged glances before doing as I ordered, while the other three stepped forward, causing Adin and Katrina to flinch.

From behind, there were thousands of blood thorns, and in front were three gargoyles with superior speed and strength. Their death was guaranteed.

"No... No, you can’t do this!" Katrina was the first to break.

It finally dawned on her that only a gruesome death awaited her.

"Hold on, let’s talk, child. There’s no need to go this far. We’re all humans!" Adin yelled, but I paid him no attention.

Without responding, I turned around and walked away with two stone gargoyles flanking me on both sides.

"Goodbye, Colonel..." I didn’t bother to give them one last glance. "I’ll make sure to put your corpse to good use."
