Chapter 55: Repairing Nightfall Dominion Territory

--- NIGHTFALL DOMINION ----

It was daytime here. The sun’s rays were blocked by thick clouds, and the light fog made this place as mysterious as ever. Standing in front of the shattered part of the walls, I gazed at the entire castle in its full glory and inhaled deeply, drawing in the fresh natural air which America lacked.

This world was beautiful—and now that I knew its situation, it pained me deeply. Maybe it was because I considered it my own now.

Back on Earth, we were given two weeks off to rest and recover from the horrors of Louisiana, and I planned to spend all that time here.

With fourteen months dedicated to my territory, I believed I could progress massively. Even if I couldn’t build up an army like that of Lee Bai, I could set the foundation for it during this time.

"System... Repair my castle," I ordered.

Ding!

> [Understood!]

[Castle repairs purchased]

[-10,000 EXP]

Buzz!

The entire realm began to tremble violently, but I didn’t move. I looked over my shoulder and watched the large body of debris vanishing into thin air as if cleaned out of existence, while the shattered wall began regrowing and fixing itself miraculously.

The pentagon-shaped hole in a part of the wall buzzed with blinding crimson light, and I calmly looked away.

The repairs were making a ruckus, and the ascendants and soldiers within the castle were bound to come out and check the source of the disturbance.

For this, I needed to prepare myself.

"How many experience points do I need to level up?" I asked calmly while going through the list of Tier 1 Blood abilities available for purchase.

> [400 EXP], the system responded quickly.

[Do you wish to level up?] it asked.

"Yes..." I nodded. "Also purchase Blood Ignition and Crimson Threads," I added.

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

A series of notifications rang relentlessly in my head while messages poured out.

> [Level up!]

Almost immediately, the details of the abilities I purchased popped up as well.

Very strong.

> [Repairs completed!]

The message brought a smile to my face. I looked over my shoulder to see the blood crystal had been reformed and the entire wall was covered with the familiar blood thorns latched onto them.

> [Nightveil Barrier activated]

Buzz!

Just seconds in, the pentagon-shaped crimson diamond glowed, and the sound of statues dragging across the ground resounded from different corners. A red barrier poured out, covering the entire castle, giving everything a crimson shade for a moment before fading out like it never existed.

"What?" I muttered in confusion and turned to face the wall.

[Nightveil Barrier]

A blood-fueled dome that cloaks and protects your castle.

The short description given by the system was quite shocking. I initially believed the only defensive mechanism the castle had were the blood thorns, but it seems...

"The castle must have been in bad shape even before we arrived," I muttered as I glanced at the castle walls.

Only then did I notice Gargoyle statues stationed about 10 to 20 meters apart on the wall, with blazing crimson eyes. From my position, only six were within view from this part of the castle.

[Boneward Guardians]

These statues are tied to the castle’s foundation. They activate at the Castle Lord’s command at a cost of 20 HP per statue. They are the pillars of the castle’s defense.

[Allegiance:] Nightfall Dominion Castle Lord (You)

Reading the description, I frowned deeply with worry. We had come at Lord Ravus’s weakest point and managed to slay him with trickery and deceit.

If this castle had all of these defenses, how did it fall in the first place?

What could have beaten up Lord Ravus—destroying his home, army, and family?

Or was it the result of constant battles that wore him out over time?

Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out his diary once again. This time, I had seven months to learn everything I could about this world, this castle, and Lord Ravus—but deep down, I dreaded finding out the truth.

Ignorance is bliss for a reason.

Clank!

I heard the sound of the castle doors bursting open and several shuffling footsteps approached rapidly, only to stop several meters away.

As expected, the rapid changes must have rattled them and they came running outside in search of the source.

"Who are you?!" a familiar, cocky voice rang from behind. "Identify yourself!" he demanded, and I scoffed.

"Who am I?" I chuckled as I slowly turned to meet their gaze.

"I am the Lord of the Land. God of Nightfall Dominion," I sneered disdainfully as their figures came into view.
