Chapter 53: Ruthless Adam

Pamela’s POV

By the time I arrived at the airfield, all the planes and helicopters were gone—except one. A large crowd stood in front of it, cursing and swearing loudly. They kept shoving each other, glancing behind in panic while yelling words I couldn’t understand due to so many people speaking at once.

Some were screaming hysterically, others crying, while many fought amongst themselves, fists and legs flying everywhere.

"What’s going on?" I mumbled in confusion.

I could only see the blades of a single helicopter ahead, so I expected it to be a lot more chaotic. They weren’t fighting for the helicopter.

But why?

It seemed like they had resigned themselves to die.

"STEP ASIDE NOW!" someone yelled viciously—

And this was followed by the cocking of guns, causing my brows to furrow.

Bungee Jump!

In one swift movement, I sank into the ground and popped up in front of the crowd from below, leading to loud gasps as they moved back like a wave.

My furrowed brows knitted tightly at the sight of about sixteen soldiers. Eight had their guns pointed toward civilians while the other half had their guns pointed toward a single figure standing between them and the helicopter.

Natasha!

But where is Adam?

My sudden appearance didn’t go unnoticed, as the soldiers pointing their guns at Natasha quickly jerked back, cocking their guns.

I blinked in shock, wondering if my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Normal soldiers dare point their guns at me?

A B-Rated Limitless?!

Just as my lips parted, I noticed something strange. The space around Natasha tore open and a familiar weapon flew out!

Swish!

Two heads were sent spiraling into the air, causing blood to squirt from their necks. While this happened, Adam jumped out, and the remaining six soldiers jerked back, pulling their triggers.

Ratatatatatata!

Adam kept the spatial gate open, allowing the bullets to fly in and protect Natasha, while he slid under their fire, reaching them with incredible speed.

Swish!

In one decisive slash, he cut off two legs—one from each of two soldiers. They cried in pain, but only for a moment as he promptly slit their throats. The last four soldiers retreated left, attempting to create space, but he stuck to them like glue as the second blade of Rai’ki flew into his hand, cutting them down like the grim reaper harvesting souls.

Mind you, all this happened in a span of 3–5 seconds.

Was he always this fast? I blinked in disbelief.

He was as fast as a rookie Ascendant, and his skills were top-notch. I’ve never seen someone move like this before!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Civilians behind me screamed as they hastily retreated, and the soldiers in front tried to turn back, but I had no intention of letting them!

"Simon says, Freeze!" I yelled as my eyes revealed a threatening pink flash.

Buzz!

Instantly, all eight soldiers froze, their eyes filled with confusion. However, they quickly noticed my glowing pink eyes and understood I was the one behind their predicament.

"I wouldn’t do that if I were you." I chuckled as I saw murderous intent flash through their eyes.

Pfft!

Blood squirted from countless cuts inflicted on all eight soldiers, and they promptly collapsed, twitching on the ground while their blood pooled beneath them.

They had tried to pull the trigger—and they paid the price for not listening to my words.

At this point, civilians were 20 meters away, silent and shivering in fear. I looked toward Natasha, and she was already all over Adam, hugging him tightly. But he was looking at the eight fallen soldiers with calculative eyes before shifting his gaze to me.

Buzz!

I don’t know why, but I felt a chill run down my spine. Something about his piercing gaze made me feel like all my secrets were exposed before his eyes.

Pushing those thoughts aside, I approached while he gently pushed Natasha off him.

"Where were you?" I asked, and Natasha also glanced at him with interest.

I noted this reaction, as it meant she knew nothing about his movements.

"I stayed back to kill every officer in the operating room by pulling them into my world," he said, gesturing at the white gates still standing wide open. "I also deleted all the footage on everything that happened in that room today."

Buzz!

My eyes widened in shock as I shifted my gaze to Natasha—and she had the same expression. Our shock seemed to surprise him, as he wore a confused look.

"What?" he asked.

"The entire command center was decimated by the orc champion. I thought you died with them!" Natasha punched his arm with a frustrated look, and he glanced at me, seemingly surprised.

"Trapping them was easy... everything was done fast before I returned to my world... I didn’t even know that happened." Adam muttered with a thoughtful expression before looking in the direction of the command center.

From his expression, reaction, and words, I could tell he wasn’t lying. However, it was just mind-blowing that he managed to kill the Colonel and Lt.—two Ascendants with capabilities beyond anything a human can imagine.

However, seeing his skill when dealing with these soldiers—coupled with the fact he fought an Orc Berserker alone—it didn’t seem impossible.

BOOOM!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

A deafening lightning explosion rocked the entire C.A.T.H., accompanied by Viktor’s cry, which prompted Adam and Natasha to look at me.

Now it was my fault to feel guilty and explain myself.

"We can talk later." I brushed their questioning gazes off. "We need to leave now!"

Thankfully, the two understood how dire the situation was and simply nodded. Adam walked past me and pointed to the open gates of his pocket dimension.

"GET IN HERE IF YOU WANT TO LIVE... I WILL RELEASE YOU FROM HERE ONCE WE GET TO TEXAS!" Adam screamed at the civilians.

The entire crowd exchanged shocked glances once—then they rushed toward the gates without hesitation.

No one questioned him.

No one asked where it led or why they should trust him.

They simply wanted to live.
