Chapter 66: Chapter 64: Set Your Heart Together

Himiko and Hinari looked at each other, amazed. Himiko whispered, "She’s pretty..."

Hinari added, "She’s beautiful..."

Aki slowly opened her eyes, gazing at them with a soft smile. "Hello, kids," she greeted.

They both looked at Aki and then raised their swords. Himiko spoke and said,

"She’s a demon."

Hinari nodded.

Aki smiled softly and replied,

"You two look like you are brave and Strong kid—"

But before she could complete her sentence, both of them vanished and appeared behind Aki. Aki raised her hand, and a very cold gust launched toward them. They both used their swords and summoned fire to fight back the gust, but the fire itself got frozen.

Both of them, in shock, jumped back, making distance between them and Aki.

Aki looked at them and spoke,

"Now, now, why don’t you be good kids and listen to me?"

Hinari raised her sword and said,

"Water Burst!"

She spun her sword, releasing a huge wave of water toward Aki. Aki raised her hand and froze the water instantly, but just then, Himiko broke through the ice, raising her sword.

Aki, slightly surprised but she smiled as her body slipped back over the ice to dodge the attack. Himiko’s sword got stuck in the ice, and then Aki raised her finger and swiped horizontally. The ice burst to the right side, sending Himiko flying away.

Suddenly, a huge wind tornado dashed toward Aki,She looked up and saw on top of the tornado was Hinari. She jumped, gripping her sword and launched it toward Aki, but Aki lowered her body and dodged the attack.

Before she could do anything else, from the front, Himiko rushed toward her holding her sword. She chanted,

"Flame Slash!"

Her eyes burned like fire as she slashed the sword in the air, releasing a flaming wave at high speed toward Aki. Aki raised her hand and released a cold frost, but the fire kept coming.

"Wha—" Aki gasped.

She placed her hand on the ground and summoned a huge ice boulder that was cut in half by the slash but successfully stopped the flames.

Then, from the side, Hinari jumped, her sword burning in flames. Aki looked up and raised her hand to stop the attack, but Hinari cut through her hand and slashed straight to her shoulder.

Aki gasped in pain as her hand fell to the ground. Hinari landed and quickly looked back, saying,

"I missed!"

Himiko also came near, holding her sword. Aki slowly turned around and looked at them. Her hand and shoulder regenerated.

Both Himiko and Hinari were surprised. Aki smiled softly and said in a small, gentle voice,

"Looks like you two kids are not that bad."

She closed her eyes and stood up slowly.

"Then let me show you two the power of a mother."

Hinari and Himiko were confused by what she just said. Then Aki opened her glowing eyes. Suddenly, Himiko and Hinari got chills.

Aki raised her hand and summoned ice spikes around her, launching them toward the girls. Hinari and Himiko started cutting through the ice, but it kept coming.

"I need time to use my fire magic!" Himiko said.

Hinari nodded and then said,

"Sword Art! Slashing Wind!"

She spun her sword, rapidly increasing her slashing speed. Himiko went behind Hinari and said,

"Fire burn in my veins!" Her eyes started glowing red. She screamed—

"Solar! Flame!"

Hinari jumped aside. Himiko slashed her sword, releasing a massive flame wave that burned everything in its path as it raced toward Aki.

Aki stood silently. As the fire neared, she whispered,

"Demon Style... Frozen City."

A white circle appeared beneath her.

BOOM!

It exploded, releasing a huge cold blizzard that froze everything in its way: the fire, land, flowers, trees—even the clouds.

Himiko and Hinari were also trapped in the ice, their eyes closed holding their sword

Aki slowly looked at them and said,

"You kids are strong for your age... Well, you are trained under the goddess after all."

She closed her eyes.

"Well, I shall kill you painlessly."

Himiko and Hinari, still trapped in the ice, were unable to move.

Aki raised her hand and pointed at them. Suddenly, the girls remembered something...

They remembered when they were training together, holding their swords. From behind, Sumi spoke and said,

"You two are strong. But if you are separated, then your strength will decrease drastically. I think you two are aware of that."

They looked at Sumi and then at each other silently. Sumi spoke again,

"So why don’t you do something that will be as strong as your bond? Something you two can do together, so you won’t be separated."

They looked at Sumi, then whispered,

"Strong as our bond..."

As they remembered, their eyes opened inside the ice. Aki saw it and gasped in shock.

"What!"

The part of their chest where their hearts were started glowing red.

They remembered again—Himiko saying,

(Sister, we both have the power to fuse our magic with each other’s... so why don’t we...)

(Fuse our hearts...) They said together

From within the ice, they screamed,

"BOND FUSION!!!!"

The ice shattered into pieces. Their bodies turned into red dust and combined, creating a huge explosion that filled the entire area with mist.

As the mist faded, Aki slowly opened her eyes. There was only one person—or rather, two souls in one body. Their swords had fused into a long, dark-red glowing blade.

Aki’s eyes widened in shock. She quickly raised her hand and summoned multiple ice spikes, launching them toward the fusion.

They raised the sword and said,

"Crimson Solar Slash!"

The fusion vanished. In the next moment, all the ice spikes were cut into pieces.

Aki gasped, then created an ice wall around her, but it started cracking—slashed rapidly from outside.

Aki, in tension, said,

"What is this?! What should I do... At this rate, I’ll di—"

Before she could finish, the wall broke down. In an instant, the fused form of Himiko and Hinari was in the air, sword aimed directly at Aki.

Aki looked up in fear, but before they could strike—

Suddently from Aki’s shadow, a white fluffy wolf with red eyes jumped out and blocked the slash using its body. The wolf got injured and collapsed to the ground, bleeding.

Himiko and Hinari gasped in shock.

Aki looked at the wolf with wide eyes, full of fear and despair.

"NOOOOOOOOO!" she screamed.

She fell to her knees, holding the wolf.

"My child! Why did you come out?! Didn’t Mama tell you to stay inside?! My child, please wake up!!!"

Himiko and Hinari looked at her crying face. They saw the pain in her eyes.

Aki raised her hand, putting it on the wolf’s head, and with a forced smile, she said,

"Mama will heal you, so you don’t have to worry."

But suddenly, the wolf’s head froze. Aki looked surprised and said,

"H... Huh... Wh... Why..."

She looked at the wolf and remembered a phrase—

(’The dead can’t be healed.’)

Tears started to appear in her eyes. She hugged the wolf tightly and whispered,

"My child... please forgive me..."

Himiko and Hinari snapped out of it.

"She’s open!!" Himiko shouted.

They grabbed the sword tightly and dashed toward Aki. Aki was still hugging the wolf close. She whispered,

"Why... Why couldn’t I protect the one I love?"

Just then, from Aki’s shadow, another white wolf jumped out to stop the attack.

Aki, surprised, raised her hand and screamed,

"Nooooo! Stoppppppp!"

Suddenly, Himiko and Hinari stopped and jumped back.

Himiko gasped. "Hinari! Why did you stop?!"

With a sad voice, Hinari replied,

"Sister... she’s in pain..."

"Huh?" Himiko gasped in confusion.

Hinari spoke again,

"She... she just lost her child... Sister... she’s in pain."

Himiko shouted,

"What are you talking about, Sister?! She’s a demon! She doesn’t have a heart! She can’t love anyone!!!"

"No!" Hinari screamed back.

"Look at them."

They looked at Aki, who was hugging the wolf which just came out.

"My child, please go back. Please go back. Mama can’t lose any more of you now..."

The wolf looked back at her with a sad face, then disappeared into her shadows.

Hinari spoke again,

"She loves them... and the wolves love her back as their mother... as much as we used to love our mom. If she was heartless, then those wolves would’ve never sacrificed themselves for her. Why would a demon cry for a wolf?!"

Himiko gasped.

Aki slowly picked up the dead wolf’s corpse and started walking away.

"I... I can... ask help from my friends... they can bring back my child..."

She struggled to keep her grip and fell to the ground but stood back up, lifting the body again.

"Surely... they will... save my child..."

Himiko shouted,

"Hinari! She’s running away!!!"

Aki moved slowly, holding the wolf’s body. Her legs trembled, and she fell again.

"W... Why... my body is weak... No... I’m weak..."

Then she remembered a small human girl’s voice, softly calling out—

"Mama..."

Her eyes widened. She gasped—

"H... Huh..."
