Chapter 230: for the twins
Chapter 230: for the twins
Night had draped Liss’s villa in a heavy veil, the dimmed light slanting through the window blinds casting jagged shadows across Kael’s face as he sat on the edge of the bed for him.
His hazel eyes, heavy with fatigue, fixed on the dusky glow, the house unnaturally quiet—a rare, fragile peace.
Everyone was asleep, or at least playing the part, but for Kael, rest was a distant hope, his mind a ticking clock of worry.
The Haven was gone, reduced to rubble and ghosts, a casualty of the Looter’s attack.
Rebuilding wasn’t an option—not with an unknown threat circling, a predator who’d sent an S-Class villain to hunt him.
The Reaper was dead, her body a smear on the pavement, but her strings were pulled by someone with power, someone who saw Kael’s empathetic resonance as a weapon to twist heroes into monsters.
The thought chilled him, a cold weight in his chest, heavier than the bruises from too much fighting, too much healing, too much everything.
Kael sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose, his body aching from sleepless nights and relentless chaos.
Freya and Rhea needed to level up—fast.
If he was the target, they’d be caught in the crossfire, their flames and frost no match for what was coming.
The twins, Lila and Tila, were raw power, but volatile, their shadow-fueled strength a wildcard.
He needed allies, not confused weapons who can flip either side.
Tomorrow, he’d ask Liss about using her private training room. T
hat was the plan.
Click.
The door opened softly, a familiar figure slipping in without hesitation.
Liss stood in the doorway, her loose t-shirt hugging her athletic curves, black cotton shorts clinging to her toned thighs, her blonde hair tied in a messy bun, strands swaying in the dim light.
She looked more like a sleepy girlfriend than one of the country’s fiercest S-Class hero, her blue eyes glinting with mischief as she closed the door behind her.
Kael straightened, his hazel eyes narrowing.
"What are you doing here? If Rhea or Freya see you—"
"I locked their door," Liss interrupted, her voice cool, confident, as she sauntered toward him, her hips swaying slightly, her t-shirt shifting to reveal a sliver of toned midriff.
"Told them to stay put. You need rest, Kael. And besides..." Her smirk widened, electric, as she hopped onto the bed beside him, her thigh brushing his.
"You know what happens if they barge in tonight, right? Threesome in ten seconds flat."
Kael blinked, his cheeks flushing, his voice stumbling. "Wha—uh—I—"
Liss laughed, the sound bright, teasing, as she leaned back against the headboard, her blue eyes glowing with amusement.
"You’re so fucking cute when you stutter."
Kael shook his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips as he leaned beside her, their shoulders brushing, her warmth grounding him.
"So? What’s your plan?" she asked, her tone shifting to curiosity, her bun swaying as she tilted her head.
Kael exhaled, his hazel eyes drifting to the shadows beyond the blinds.
"Lie low for now. Train Freya and Rhea, make them stronger. Get the twins under control. But..." He turned to her, his voice firm.
"I need you to go back to work, Liss. Return to your duties as Lightning Lass. You’re S-Class. The world needs you out there, not hiding here with me. I’ll keep training you in secret, like before."
Liss stared at him for a beat, her blue eyes narrowing, her lips pursing. "No."
Kael frowned, his hazel eyes searching hers. "No?"
She slid under the blanket beside him, her thigh pressing against his, her t-shirt riding up slightly, revealing more of her toned waist.
"No," she repeated, lying next to him, her voice resolute. "I’m taking a break from Lightning Lass. Until this is over."
"Liss..." Kael started, his tone heavy with concern.
"Kael," she cut in, her voice sharper, her blue eyes locking onto his, serious now.
"Think. If someone’s after you, they’ll wait for me to leave. Wait until you’re alone. Then they’ll strike—some flashy disaster to pull me away, and by the time I realize it’s a diversion, you’re gone."
Kael’s lips parted, then closed, her words sinking in like a blade.
She was right, and the realization tightened his chest.
"Damn," he muttered, his hazel eyes dropping. "You’re right."
"Of course I am," Liss said, her smirk returning, smug and electric, her fingers brushing his hand, a spark of warmth in the contact.
"So I’m staying. I’ll help train your chaotic bitches—make ’em strong, just like you did with me."
Kael snorted, a grin breaking through. "Thanks."
"You’re welcome," she said, leaning in to plant a soft kiss on his cheek, her lips warm, lingering, before moving to his ear, her voice dropping to a husky whisper.
"Want to train this bitch right now?"
He chuckled, turning to face her, his hand finding her hip, giving her a firm, playful spank through her shorts, the sound a soft thwack in the quiet room.
"Tempting," he said, his hazel eyes glinting, "but I’ve got something to do first."
"Oh?" Liss raised a brow, her smirk faltering, curiosity flickering in her blue eyes. "What’s that?"
"Can I borrow your box of toys?" Kael asked, already sliding out of bed.
Liss paused, a flicker of something—jealousy, maybe, or intrigue—crossing her face before her smirk returned.
"I thought that was for me," she said, her voice teasing but edged with curiosity.
"It’s not," Kael said, his grin sly as he straightened his shirt. "I need it for the twins."
Her blue eyes narrowed, a spark of playful possessiveness, but she stood, stretching, her t-shirt lifting to reveal her toned waist, her shorts hugging her thighs.
"Fine," she said, sauntering to a nearby closet, her bun bouncing. "I don’t care what you do with them. But you owe me."
"Thanks, Liss," Kael said, taking the sleek black box she handed him, as he wondered why was the box in the closet of his room.
She smirked, turning away, but not before Kael gave her hip another playful spank, the sound sharp, her laugh low and teasing.
"You better make up for it," she called over her shoulder, her blue eyes glinting as she slipped out of the room.
"Oh, I will," Kael promised, his voice low, a grin tugging at his lips.
